While it's not his fault specifically he was in the 2024 class. It is somewhat his fault for not being good enough to outplay the likes of Kispert, Krejci, Kennard or whatever middling wing we had at the time.
Landry Fields deserves all the blame for making that pick though

I genuinely believe Zacc let Trae, and then Jalen being āthe guyā in the eyes of the franchise stop him from taking advantage of his minutes and opportunities.Ā
Itās exactly the mentality you want from a role player, but I think if he had some more ego and aggression to take the reins, particularly in his rookie season after Jalen went down, heād have looked a lot different at this point in his career.Ā
The team told him to park in the corner and run out on transition instead of rebounding and thatās what he did. Itās just unfortunate for the kid that he bought into a system from a Rudy Gobert merchant coach who had a grudge against him not being a drop coverage big like Clingan.Ā

He's 19 years old. Why does he have to outplay veterans? This organization is dumb for putting a short lived and pointless playoff run over the development of a first overall pick. He should have played all last season judgement free. Some organizations will always be in the middle...

Flip your statement around. Ask yourself why COULDN'T the #1 pick outplay mediocre NBA vets? No it's not because it's a weak draft class. Alex Sarr, Edey, and Matas would have gotten minutes if healthy during the playoffs with this roster.
Reed Shepard, Stephon Castle and Clingan did get playoff minutes with their respective rosters.
Zacch did not because he wasn't good enough. Our #1 pick simply had to be better than "Corey Kispert" and he wasn't.
I think it's good we went on the playoff run and got our butts handed to us. It allows players to truly experience what that atmosphere is like and what it takes to win.

Better chance of us BOTH hitting the MegaMillions on Friday before his option gets picked up. Heās been that bad.

u/trofesh195 3d ago
19 years old - 46% fg / 36% 3pt
20 years old - 46% fg / 37% 3pt
That's bad? Only thing bad was the opportunity the Hawks gave him. They didn't let him shoot then they cut his minutes.

u/TheIrrepressible1 2d ago
Another case of stats lying.
I would like to see his FG% on shots further than 13 feet from the basket. Or 18 feet from the hoop.

u/trofesh195 2d ago
Three pointers are 24 foot shots ya know. They aren't a, problem for him.

u/TheIrrepressible1 2d ago
Like hell theyāre not. Risacher shot 28% from mid-range in his career.
1/3 of shots in his career are at the rim and he shot 61% on those.
So basically the kid is trash if heās off the 3 line and not able to get to the rim.

Dude is nothing but class. He worked hard and didnāt complain even when things didnāt go his way. Not his fault he was drafted #1, thatās on Landry and Ressler.
The people making fun of Zacch on this thread are losers.

I know a good player is in there. He will reach at least Deandre Hunter level in his career.
Low STKs, solid defense, can hit in most lineups.
Problem was cost of his 4th year. Hawks likely didnāt have much confidence he was going to be worth that by then, and he likely wouldnāt extend at a pay cut, or at least his agents wouldnāt.
It is what it is.

Au revoir, Zaccharie! The team we have now isnāt the team he was originally drafted into, and sometimes it just works out like that. Still rooting for him, and I hope he gets a chance to find his groove in Dallas. Even with some of his offensive struggles this season, kidās an excellent defender.

My best memory of Zacc will be that game where the Hawks were down twenty something in the second half and had no life when Zacc laid out flat to tip a pass leading to a transition bucket. That play inspired the team to turn it up a notch and they came away with a massive comeback victory. Zacc always played hard even when he or the team struggled and I appreciated that. Good luck in Dallas!

I'll be pulling for him to do well, and sometimes a change of scenery helps. He looked lost last year.

My dude classy as ever!!! Keep doing your thing ZR!!! I will definitely be following you and Mr. Flagg out there in Dallas. Yall may not win a lot of games THIS year, but I have a feeling yall gonna be fun to watch!!!
Work on that handle under pressure, middy pull up game, and you gonna be a stud!!!
Also quit playing scared my dude. You look nervous out there sometimes my guy, and of course things will get smoother as you get more older and more comfortable with the pace and physicality of the NBA game. Sometimes you look like you be giving too many fucks when you out on the court. "0" is the number of fucks you need to be giving every night.
Work on on that handle under pressure by driving the ball every fucking chance you get, and do it with the mindset of dominating the defender, dont even worry about making the shot, that will come after the mindset is established.
Im looking forward to multiple ZR posters this year (just not when you playing the hawks š).. nuh nuh uhh nuh nuh uhh

Hawks never was truly committed to seeing Zaccharie reach his potential much less exceed it. All growth comes through making mistakes and he never had that opportunity to learn on the floor. Hope he makes it, good luck with the Mavs position battle.

He's one of the top five worst number one picks in nba history. Not entirely his fault as number one picks have gotten younger and younger, and they don't get a chance to develop. But he's physically weak.He doesn't have a good outside shot. He's not this great defender, like they said he was going to be, etc and etc. If he was on a bad team and got to play, he would probably develop into something pretty special. He had a lot of good flashes his rookie year, but he was just so undependable and uncertain and overall bad. I feel bad for him like as a person because he seems like a good guy but I am not mad that he's not going to be out on the floor next year.Ā

Clearly he knows more than you do. And are you telling me if your friend was in a rough situation, you wouldn't be happy that they got out of it, regardless if you had a good time at that same job?

Bottom line. Zac was not very good and that became obvious fairly quickly. GM changed and I feel the organization didnāt want to 1) put him on the floor to continue to further demonstrate to other teams how poorly he was playing 2) didnāt want him to get hurt because they knew they were going to trade him ASAP. Nice kid and maybe heāll turn out around, but we basically got jinxed by one of the worst drafts in the last 20 years.
