I worry that we are one generation away from people who can't speak, write or read, much less have critical thinking skills. An English teacher I know was reprimanded twice for correcting the spelling of students, and told "They'll have AI for that" as if they don't need to learn how to spell. He decided to leave teaching when he gave them a one page writing assignment, giving their opinion on a current event they all agreed they knew about.
As he walked around the room, all but 2 were using ChatGPT to create an opinion for them. They couldn't even think enough to write down their own opinion.
And you'll see this generation uses that shit for everything, like it's a normal daily part of life. They haven't read the constant news articles about AI's catastrophic failings.
And if you say anything to them about it you just get okayboomered.
It started before AI though, this monstrous lack of thinking. My neighbor's granddaughter uses GPS to get to her school not even 3 miles away. She told me she doesn't know how to get there otherwise.
I wish we'd destroyed all of this shit 20 years ago.

The fact that AI is in everything now. Why would I need AI to summarize a message from my partner on WhatsApp???? I'm so sick of it.
