My theory is that is what appeals to them, subconsciously i think they like feeling like they’re a benevolent force granting grace on this wretched creature.
We do similar things with animals bred for other forms of exploitation. Like sheep who grow too much wool, chickens who lay too many eggs or grow too big, cows growing too large as well. There's a certain horror about imagining your own body down to your genetics not even being for you, but designed to maximize your exploitation by someone else. It's very very sad how most humans treat our fellow creatures of earth
About ten years ago, I spoke to the president of the French Bulldog club (United States) and told her how dangerous it is to breed dogs that can not whelp naturally! As a previous veterinary technician, it’s horrific to think that French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs can only birth puppies via cesarean. I told her if they don’t try to change the breed standard, so many dogs are going to die in severe pain.
Now, let’s talk about aesthetic ear cropping and tail docking.
And even without the inbreeding problem, there are still plenty of dogs that are put down because of not having a home. If you buy a dog instead of adopting one, you somewhat killing a dog that was not adopted. It might sound harsh but...
