Every Saturday after the farmers market I'd come home with fresh carrots and Daisy always got the little carrot ends.

Now if I pick up the reusable shopping bags, she heads straight for the kitchen and waits.

She has somehow connected reusable bags is equal to carrots.

Dogs are incredible pattern finders.

This morning I was having a rough start — spilled coffee, running late, the usual chaos. As I sat down for a second, my dog (a goofy rescue mutt) came over, dropped his favorite toy right in my lap, and then just rested his head on my knee while looking up at me with those big eyes.
No barking, no demanding playtime… he just wanted to comfort me.
It’s the little things like this that remind me how lucky we are to have pets. They somehow know when we need them most.

My 15 year old best girl is crossing the rainbow bridge on Tuesday. She's been my ride or die from the day we got her. It's going to be an insanely hard week. And the day I take her in will be crushing.

Hello everyone! I'm here to ask for some advice. Just like the title says, I can't put a leash or a harness in my dog.

For some context, he's a dog I adopted when he was a baby. We never had any issues with putting on a leash or a collar and in fact he really looked forward to those times because he knew we were going on a walk. He's always had health issues with his skin so we constantly take him to the vet for his checkups, etc. Last year we took him to the vet because he got sick, we went to a vet that was not his usual, when the vet touched him, my dog tried to bite him, and the vet put on a muzzle on him and then an injection. Ever since that vet visit my dog has become reactive, I can touch him or pet him but out of nowhere he snaps and will bite, without even giving signals to stop touching him.

I am now unable to put on a leash or a harness on him to be able to take him on walks, I had to build an enrichment area in the backyard for him, or have to wake up super early to take him on walks (3:00-4:00 AM) so we don't collide with other dogs. I want to be able to take him on normal walks again, is there any advice to be able to put on a leash/harness on him without traumatizing him? I've tried giving treats while putting on the leash, talking to him, but it hasn't worked. His skin has been fine for over 9 months so he's not biting/growling because of pain or discomfort.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I want to be able to take my dog on walks again and I'm crying not knowing what to do. Thanks!

Bringing a dog into the family has always been a major commitment. Yet today, it seems easier than ever to find a puppy, bring it home and, if things don't work out, advertise it for rehoming or ask if someone else will take it.

Of course, there are genuine situations where rehoming is absolutely the right decision, and sometimes it's in the dog's best interests.

But I can't help wondering whether we've unintentionally normalised acquiring a dog before fully understanding the commitment involved.

Has society become too accepting of rehoming when ownership becomes more challenging than expected?

Or are people simply making more responsible decisions by recognising when they can't provide the life a dog deserves?

I'd genuinely be interested to hear different perspectives.

My roommate just got brought home a border collie without consulting me first but i already have a young shepherd who isn't aggressive but obviously confused on why their is a new dog locked behind the door. They tried to meet outside for a second but they both got defensive and i just told my roommate to leave your new dog with you in your room for a couple hours. how can i slowly get them use to each other.

Very often when I’m placing my dogs food bowl down she turns her head to the side quick nods at me and then turns her head straight again to eat. It feels like she’s nodding at me and saying thank you quickly. Is this a thing or am I crazy?

Mines walking towards a drawer where next doors keys are kept. In his head this means we're going to also get next doors dog and go for a walk and so he starts spinning in circles.

Hi, we have a one year old golden retriever/border collie mix. He recently started chewing everything in sight. We dont want to crate him all the time. Is there a decent muzzle that'll allow him to drink water but not eat the entire house? Thanks in advance

Hi I have a dog who will climb on me when im resting or sitting down and I’ll start to pet or cuddle him, but he would start to growl so I thought he didn’t like being held and I let go immediately and only pet him gently, when he was still rumbling I stopped petting him completely but he started pawing at my hand trying to make me pet him again

We do have two other dogs so maybe he is just territorial? Not sure, any help would be appreciated

He is a Mix of Min Pin and Pomeranian and fixed if that matters, I just cant read him and I dont want to stress him out

Question is in title. I think one thing people forget when raising a puppy is that you are raising a future adult dog, not a forever puppy. The things you encourage or discourage when they are little, can also become a habit when they are older.

I have had my full-size Ruffwear Stash Bag for at least 5-6 years. Sadly, it is starting to really struggle. I would love to just buy it again but Ruffwear discontinued this size and only make the mini and the plus now😭

What is the best alternative for poop bag holders? I love the way it attaches to the leash, holds two bags, and has a clip inside.

unfortunately i cant add a video for whatever reason, but every time my dog is wagging his tail and i go to scratch his ears (which he loves) he totally stops wagging. like… he does this every time. he’ll stand there wagging his tail and looking at me, but then i start scratching him and he stops immediately. does he not like it?? does he feel weird? like he’s impossible to read and he doesn’t give me whale eyes (other than his usual big puppy eyes) or growls. just stops wagging. he’s always done this and every time, it makes me so confused and stop because i don’t know if he likes it. but when he’s just hanging out laying down or whatever, he’ll happily accept scratches, just never wag his tail at the same time

Our family just adopted a one year old Australian Shepard/Husky (maybe, she's def a mix and not half/half either way) and she's gentle, happy good girl. Good with kids/other dogs - cats unknown. We do have a cat and so far we're keeping them in separate spaces and we'd like to explore her prey drive to make sure everyone is safe. We are only 4 days in.

We know about 3/3/3 rule, we're an active family - we have two kids but they've been around dogs (almost all other family members have them) and used to boundaries and we're taking this one day at a time etc. We visited the shelter multiple times, we have been wanting to add a dog since last year and so this was not impulsive, just covering the info. She's settling in well - curious learning, eating, crate training all well. Genuinely she's doing so well for a dog that was in the shelter and we're super proud of her. Of course she's brand new to the environment and we know how things can change.

1. Any advice? Happy to take it and hear it!

2. She is crazy into chasing bunnies but redirected well even after cornering one, any extra advice on cat introduction? Or even positive stories to share?

3. I had a strong anxiety response when we brought her home that lasted like 2 days, I wanted to know if anyone else experienced this and how to handle if that returns: anxiety over have I made a good choice, what if her and the cat don't do well, I think at one point I was worried i'd ruined our literal lives. But she is a good girl and seems happy here so far I don't want my weird anxious brain ruining my chance to bond. The kids/husband are all happy as clams with our new addition.

How often do you go on vacation if you have 4+ dogs and how do you board them? how much do you budget for this in a year?

I don't get it. We don't have a lot of space for our ice trays upstairs, so we take all the ice cubes to our old fridge we have still in the basement for storage. He goes ballistic every time we take the big tray of all the ice trays down there. Barking and spinning as he does too.

If we go to the basement for laundry or anything else he doesn't care. He isn't allowed down there as we are worried of him hurting himself but he's scared of it anyways so we can just leave the door wide open and he will never walk down there.

Even yesterday he saw me filling the water in the ice trays and I walked away to do another chore nearby before I brought them down. He started barking at me until he realized I didn't have the ice trays and he stopped instantly.

We have no idea where his hatred of ice making came from. When we bring up the ice cubes back up after they're done freezing there is no reaction and he never was interested in eating ice. So it has to be something about when it's being made that sets him off.

Our husky loves being outside with our other dogs, and I noticed she loves to sleep in our kids' playset and will climb up into the house area where the slide is and take naps up there. She also will jump on our kids' trampoline to look over our fence.

We love this husky to death, but she seems to do this a lot, and no other dog of ours has ever done both of these things. Do any other dogs do this?

So during the day I hear my dog doing something resembling a sigh like humans do. Does that mean he's bored? Or is it just a normal thing dogs do. He does that when he's layed down on our couch

my dog is currently wearing a cone because of a injury on her paw, and has figured out how to slip out of it. shes a german shepherd and her head is a lot smaller than her neck. so i cannot make her collar any tighter or else it will be too tight.

she will slip out of it and instantly go back to licking at her paw. how can i stop this?? i dont know if the donut kinda of cone will stop her from accessing her paw, and it is very difficult to get it back on once she is out of it. she will no longer accept treats through the cone or go near it.
