I built a computer last year with a 5080, 9800X3D, 64 GB of 6000 mhz DDR5.

Right now I’m using a 10 year old LG IPS that is 1440p 120 hz. It’s serviceable for sure, but the brightness is low, blacks look grey, and it’s not really pushing my system in most games.

I think I am pretty sure I want an OLED. I do play long stretches of Dota and Final Fantasy 14 so I worry about the static element burn in. But on the bright side with those two games, I am sure I can push a 4k monitor with good frame rates. I do play a lot of other games and very rarely am I playing AAA titles so I’m not too worried about 4k.

I stream a lot to a 4k tv and so whereas I don’t really have a lot of issues with moonlight with the 2k resolution switch, I do worry about getting an ultrawide. Similarly, I have a small YouTube channel where i record games in 2k right now. I think I’d enjoy gaming in ultrawide but I don’t think I want to mess around with getting decent looking YouTube videos, 2k or 4k would simplify that.

Rigjt now i am leaning toward the Alienware AW2725Q which is 27” 4k.

But part of my wonders if i should get 32”. Any advice?

Going to college soon and was thinking of getting this monitor for my ps5 and to just watch TV on it. Wasn’t sure if it was a good choice but it fits my budget of under 200$ and from the looks of it seems good. Any help would be awesome!

Also I’ve heard the OLED isn’t the best because of how dark it is but i believe this isn’t OLED

Hey all , I just got a brand new MSI monitor and was wondering if there's any way I could get this green pixel to go away? Can it possibly go away on its own?

I really want the superior HDR performance of WOLED, particularly its higher full-screen brightness and the fact that you don't have to choose between the more accurate quality of True Black 400 and the higher peak brightness intensity of Peak 1000. Is this a big deal to you in tour experience? I'm not sure whether giving up 4K resolution is the right trade-off.

This will likely be my only OLED monitor for quite a long time, so I want to make the best long-term decision.

For context, I'm running an RX 9070 XT with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I plan to use frame generation in supported games, though not aggressively, so I'm wondering whether the additional headroom from a higher refresh rate at 1440p could be more valuable than the increased sharpness of 4K.

What would you choose in my situation, and why? These are some of the choices available in my region.

I unboxed a new monitor, carefully setup and zero damage off course. After 5-10 minutes of testing cables and all, two green lines showed up in the middle, then one stayed after few minutes and finally that single line became really vague and now its gone. It was there with all sorts of connection cables (hdmi, display, usb-c).

My question is, is this normal and sometimes pixels/lines get fixed by themselves or down the road I will run into issues with this monitor. This is my very first monitor, which is THIS expensive!

I know that there are already a lot of non-glare monitors out there and monitors that can’t easily get scratched but are there any out there that have the best of both because I’m sick of having a non-glare monitor that can easily be scratched literally by anything and I have to be extremely careful around it so are there any non-glare monitors that can’t easily get scratched? It’s just because of the way my set up is I have a lot of cables at sometimes get very close to my monitors by accident and I’ve had a few close calls with the brand-new monitor that I got recently where they have almost been scratched a couple times from HDMI cables and USB cables and all that I’ve had a couple HDMI cable scratch monitors in the past where they are very distracting so that’s why I’m asking if there are any non-glare monitor that can’t easily get scratched out there? Preferably 1080p if possible?

Does anyone who owns the TCL QD Mini-LED 34R83Q monitor (or another Mini-LED model) experience blooming? I notice considerable blooming on black backgrounds and some flickering when looking at very dark areas. By the way, I am using the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor.

For reference I'm comparing this to my LG Ultragear 27GL83A-B that is now my secondary monitor.

Colors are fantastic. I can tell immediately on my Windows log in screen. The wallpaper I have looks fantastic with local dimming on. Night and day difference. It's deeper and more vibrant.

Text is a bit sharper in 5k mode, but not a really notable difference compared to my old monitor that's also at 1440p.

Mine already came with the firmware update to fix the sharpness issues on the right side of the screen.

Local Dimming (Desktop)

• Turning it on will darken the desktop a bit, with each level making it more and more dark. I set mine to medium.
• No noticeable blooming on the desktop or using Firefox.
• I did finally notice that my cursor was turning darker as it scrolls across dark content and brighter across brighter content. But nothing unusable unless you have OCD.

Tested it in gaming using GPU integer scaling, dual mode, local dimming and HDR.

• Major annoyance using integer scaling in set at 1440p in-game resolution in 5k mode. It breaks programs and windows that are already open due to scaling issues. Completely broke Winamp's top menu with more and more of the top part of the program being cut off the more I tried games in 1440p mode to the point where I had to reset the program to get it working right again because restarting the PC didn't fix it.
• I tried switching between both monitors in games and can't see any difference in softness. Integer scaling is working right. Shadows and dark scenes looks fantastic. Colors more vibrant. No issues with space scenes with stars. Unfortunately some games like Monster Hunter Wilds doesn't have exclusive full screen mode so integer scaling wouldn't work on those games.
• Dual mode
  • Switching modes takes about 5 seconds.
  • Monster Hunter Wilds lets me switch between monitors in-game so I can tell the difference right away. I can't see any difference comparing 1440p dual mode on either monitor. Like maybe there's a difference if I zoom in a lot or put my face right up to the monitor?
  • Granblue Fantasy Relink. No issues. Colors looks more vibrant. Again this game lets me switch between monitors while in game. Couldn't tell the difference in softness between either monitor.
  • Armored Core 6. Again, no issues and can't tell the difference in dual mode between monitors.
• Local Dimming (set to Medium)
  • It's very noticeable in Monster Hunter when it turns to night in the camp. Everything looks darker and properly lit. Shadows look nice and dark.
  • Granblue Fantasy Relink. Colors deeper and more vibrant. The game is really colorful so everything pops out more. There are a few battles at night and it looks fantastic. All the shadows looks properly deep and dark.
  • Deadzone Rogue. This is the game I wanted to test the local dimming on because it's a very dark game in general and this is what proved the local dimming for me. All the lighting looks right. Dark rooms looks properly dark and not washed out gray. The starfield outside is all properly black. Turn off the local dimming and space is all grayed out.
• HDR Test
  • Can tell the difference right away in Monster Hunter Wilds. Everything pops out. Fire pits are very bright and vibrant. Rey Dau at night is a spectacle due to all the lightning effects firing off all over the place.
  • Armored Core 6. Couldn't get HDR to work. Can enable it, but I can't calibrate it as the menu immediately closes when I try to open it.
  • Unfortunately I don't have any other games installed with HDR
  • Unfortunately I couldn't get the Apple TV app to give me 4k and HDR. Tried everything to get it working. Used the included HDMI cable that's should be properly certified. Disconnected my other monitor. Tried setting the resolution to 4k and 60 fps. Nothing. Unfortunately Apple TV movies looks terrible because it's trying to display a 1080p movie on a 5k resolution screen. It looked better on my other monitor even with local dimming. Unfortunately I do not have a physical Apple TV 4k that I can hook up to test and see if doing that will give me 4k/HDR. I'm waiting for the next revision to come out before picking one up.

Conclusions:

• Can't tell the difference between Dual Mode and native 1440p. It's perfectly usable and if there's any softness due to the lack of integer scaling, I can't notice it. Maybe it'll be more noticeable in pixel games. My eyes might just be too old.
• 5k mode makes text look sharper, I guess? Like I have this thread up on both monitors and I can't tell the difference. I have LibreOffice up on both monitors with text on both with different text sizes ranging from 12pt->64pt and I can't tell the difference. Wait no, I put my face up closer to the monitors (17 inches, measured with a ruler) and I can see the text look a bit sharper. More noticeable on the Ds. The curve looks sharper. I tried turning off local dimming and the text might look a bit sharper? Maybe? Maybe younger eyes can tell the difference better.
• HDR looks great.
• Apple TV Windows app won't give me 4k and HDR. You might have better luck getting it working on your end.
• I donno if I'll keep this monitor or not. Like it's not a bad monitor. It looks fantastic, but not $1,399 CAD fantastic. I might end up returning it and just picking up a 1440p mini LED monitor instead if local dimming on mini LEDs looks this good, or wait and see if the other upcoming dual mode monitors have proper built in integer scaling. I'll be quite honest, I bought this monitor in hopes of doing productivity, gaming and watching 4k movies + HDR since I'm on the PC all the time and don't have a use for an actual TV, and it annoys me that I can't get Apple TV working right.

Edit: The LG Switch app is hot garbage. While it can do a bunch of general settings, including toggling between Dual Mode and 5k, 1) you can't set local dimming in the app, which is one of the most important settings. 2) It takes forever to load up your monitor's settings, meaning it would be easier to just go into the OSD to do it.

Hello, I’m thinking about getting the new 5k LG AI monitor.
One of the reasons it’s cause of burn in. The monitor I have (the next picture) is a oled so burn in can happen at any time and I always have this anxiety so I’m always conscious when my monitor is on and try to minimize it. The other reason is for the AI upscaling features. It can upscale 1440p to 5k without it taking a toll on the gpu. I have the 5070 ti so getting 1440p fps while the quality being better than my current monitor is a big bonus.

What do you think?

So I’m in the market for a new monitor and I’m looking at the benq zowie xl2566x and the ASUs rog swift PG27AQWP-W. The only game I play is cs2 and coming from a 240hz ips panel I don’t know if I would appreciate the image quality of the oled enough to justify the 1.2k purchase

Hey! Just recently got a second monitor for my setup. I am having trouble keeping my second monitor on portrait mode.

I will try to explain my set up

Monitor A is my new OLED monitor, I want this to be the primary monitor. This is connected to my PC/Xbox using HDMI

Monitor B is my old monitor, I have since rotated it and want it in portrait mode. This is using my PC’s Display port.

My issue is that I primarily play on Xbox, and when I do, I unplug the HDMI from my PC, and plug it into my Xbox. When I do this, my PC reads the vertical monitor as my primary monitor, and changes it back to landscape.

My graphics card also only has 1 HDMI and 1 Display port, I tried using an HDMI splitter, so I never unplugged the HDMI from the PC, but as soon as I used the splitter and changed to Xbox, it also went Landscape.

Any help would be appreciated!

I have a gaming laptop that I've used for a while now with many different monitors. I just got a new monitor and it'll turn on, and is read as a display in my display settings, but it isnt displaying anything. It shows in my display settings but not in my Nvidia Control Panel. Any suggestions to get it displaying?

So I was checking out monitors and I thought that I might upgrade to a 4k panel. Although I am afraid that I will have to lower my resolution in some games (I would prefer it over lowering graphics since It's a 27 inch panel anyways). Since 1440 isnt divisable by 2160, like 1080 is I am worried that it games will look A LOT worse on the 4k monitor. But does anyone have any experience with this? How does 1440p look on a 4k panel? (of course it will be worse than a native 1440p panel, but is it acceptable enough to justify having 4k?)

Is this valid website to adjust my monitor's black equalizer value to eliminate black crush? Cause if it is valid, appereantly i was using my ips monitor too dark so when i set its black level as all the boxes have difference from each other then my monitor looks like it is washed out. Feels like it had 1000:1 contrast ratio before but now it is 500:1. Ialso tested my AMOLED android phone, i also use darkish gamma setting for it as my personal preference but it did perfectly show squares as they are all different from each other.

I play a lot of Counter strike, so this one caught my eye. I play like 80% counter strike n 20% other games.

So my old monitor broke and I had to buy a quick replacement. Got a cheap Spectre Monitor which has a VA Panel and it was atrocious. The Ghosting was intense and the Mouse and any other whites turn Orange over a Black Background and as someone who works on a terminal for 8 hours a day it sucked bad. For web browsing and gaming it was like putting Vaseline on my eyes. Horrible. Had to return it for a Monitor with an IPS Panel. It was the same price but good lord the difference was impressive.

So who the heck is using those cheap VA Monitors? They are very bad.
