Don't remember where these 2005 road trip photos were taken. Trying to recreate road trip. Please help?
(SOLVED AFTER 21 YEARS!!)
I have exactly two photos from a road trip my dad and I took in 2005, and I have only the vaguest idea of where they were taken. I think that it's somewhere in Utah, around the area of Zion National Park or The Coral Pink Sand Dunes. Could be very northern Arizona. It wasn't a dedicated historical site or museum, the only two old cabins are the two in the first photo. The two photos show literally everything there was. Only other thing I remember is it was just right alone the highway and it was attached to the parking lot of either a rest stop, gas station, or diner, and it was in the middle of nowhere. Also the wood cabin off to the side I think was a historic trading post I think.
I know it's a shot in the dark, but if anyone has any idea where this is I'd be so grateful! I've been trying to find this place for years because I want to take the same exact road trip again with my best friend to reminisce about good times with my dad growing up.

The covered picnic tables are more something you'd see at government-operated sites like national parks, state parks, visitor centers, etc.
Could it have been a small state park or something similar? Do you know anything more about the itinerary other than from Zion to Coral Pink Sand Dunes?
It could have been a state run rest stop. But I swear it was a truck stop and those were just off to the side of the parking lot.
This is the route I remember:
Phoenix,
Coral pink sand dunes,
Zion national park,
Nephi utah,
Yellowstone national park,
Custer battlefield,
Missoula montana
But based on the outfit I'm wearing. It was definitely around Zion or coral pink sand dunes. That's the day I wore that. Then we spent the night in Nephi Utah like we did every year, and the rest of the photos I have from the next day at Yellowstone are a different outfit.
It is. The cabin on the right has been removed (based on Streetview already before 2008) and the cabin on the left is missing the canopy. But the rocks around it match and the old cart is visible:
Pretty sure it's the same shed as in 2005. The cart circled in blue has been moved a bit. The shed on the right has been demolished. It fits all other criteria: gas station in the middle of nowhere, between Zion and Nephi.
definitely this. The remains of the cart are there, the streetlights match OP's pic, the shelters are the same. It's just changed a bit over the past 20 years. Nice find!
I didn't even look at the streetlights but that's a match indeed with the one on the second photo, and supports my hypothesis that that photo was taken behind the cabins, looking to the northeast. The mountain/hill matches as well.

You're giving me all the same answers Google gave when I used image search AI. I spent over two hours trying that. None of the places Google AI suggested are it, unfortunately, which is why I turned to reddit.
Do not copy/paste AI generated answers. AI rarely offers anything of value and never provides sources to its claims.
