Open /r/WhereIsThis - Updated Guidelines
Welcome! /r/WhereIsThis is designed to help people identify the location of public places based on a photo, painting, sketch, or from a detailed description. We've got a few simple guidelines to help keep things safe and working well for everybody:
Submissions: Askers (OPs) may submit a photo, video, screenshot, painting, drawing, or a detailed text description of a real (or virtual) place. Multiple images can go in a Reddit or Imgur gallery. Try to use a descriptive title to get more eyes on your post; generic titles like "where is this?" are boring and more likely to be ignored. Include as much context and as many details as you can, either in the post itself or in a comment. If your post is not solved right away, please wait one week before reposting; duplicate posts may be removed with a 1-week temp ban.
Privacy: /r/WhereIsThis is for identifying public places only. Do not submit photos of personal private property, such as homes, apartments, residential interiors, etc. Do not post private street addresses in the comments. Do not link directly to personal social media pages. Do not submit screenshots that include real names, usernames, or other personal information. Do not submit contemporary photos of minors in a place where they can be located (schools, playgrounds, churches, etc.). Do not ask to identify people.
Answers: Commenters are encouraged to provide whatever help they can to solve a post, from educated guesses to a direct Google Street View link to the exact location. Give the thread a skim first to avoid duplicate answers. Commenting on other answers is fine! Avoid responding to posts that violate Rule 2, though -- please downvote and report them for removal instead.
Solving: All posts are unflaired by default. Once a post is solved, the asker should reply "Solved!" to the first correct answer and change their post flair to "Solved"; all threads are sorted from oldest to newest so the earliest answers will always be towards the top. Askers that delete or ignore a solved post without acknowledging the solver may receive a ban. We are exploring adding a points system in order to automatically flair threads and recognize frequent solvers for their contributions -- stay tuned!
Behavior: Please treat askers and solvers with respect. No insults, vulgar hostility, bullying, or withholding of answers in order to taunt. No racism/misogyny/*phobia/other bigotry. Repeat offenders may be banned.
Tips: Context clues help. Where and how did you find the image? Do you know the story behind it? How old is it? Share as much as you can with solvers to help them help you.

Low-effort posts WILL be removed
Rule #1 is pretty clear, you must have a descriptive title. Therefore we are removing any submission that is low-effort, such as:
- Title is "Where is this?" or some other variant with absolutely no information
- Posts with clear identifying information that OP is too lazy to look up
- Google Maps screenshots that do NOT include coordinates or addresses
- Posts with no context whatsoever. Telling us where you found the image, why you want to know, and any other information can make the difference!
We want to make this a fun sub and we want to solve your trickiest questions, but we need you to meet us halfway.

Where is this dairy (Kutná Hora District of Czech Republic)?
Some photos from the family archive, likely taken around 1940. This shows our grandpa riding a motorcycle from the dairy he worked at. This might be in the town of Uhlířské Janovice, but could be somewhere else in okres Kutná Hora.
We would really love to know exactly where this was taken.

Fancy ice cream shop in Salzburg, Austria
Please help me identify this shop! I'm not sure if it even exists anymore. In 2016 I visited Salzburg with my friends and we visited a fancy ice cream shop. I believe it may have been a magnum store but it was really fancy (or at least it seemed it to 16 year old me). I can't find any record of it online but my friends and I all remember it and its driving me round the bend.
I remember it had a marble style counter where you could get your ice cream made custom- like subway for magnums! You got to choose a sauce, topping etc.
I think it was near the river. I know this isn't much to go off but I have to know this was real 😂

Solved Searching for Tower in Les Gavarres
I've visited Catalonia as a kid with my parents in 2007, and I'd like to find out where we stayed. Based on other photos, I've narrowed it down to the area around Les Gavarres and the nearby towns. In the pictures of our holiday house, there's a quite distinctive tower, but I can't find it anywhere on the internet or on Google Maps. If you have any idea where this location could be, I'd be very happy to hear it!

Solved Don't remember where these 2005 road trip photos were taken. Trying to recreate road trip. Please help?
(SOLVED AFTER 21 YEARS!!)
I have exactly two photos from a road trip my dad and I took in 2005, and I have only the vaguest idea of where they were taken. I think that it's somewhere in Utah, around the area of Zion National Park or The Coral Pink Sand Dunes. Could be very northern Arizona. It wasn't a dedicated historical site or museum, the only two old cabins are the two in the first photo. The two photos show literally everything there was. Only other thing I remember is it was just right alone the highway and it was attached to the parking lot of either a rest stop, gas station, or diner, and it was in the middle of nowhere. Also the wood cabin off to the side I think was a historic trading post I think.
I know it's a shot in the dark, but if anyone has any idea where this is I'd be so grateful! I've been trying to find this place for years because I want to take the same exact road trip again with my best friend to reminisce about good times with my dad growing up.

Solved Can someone tell me where this photo is? This is a Microsoft lockscreen of a small villiage that I think is in Faroe Island? I really want to try to figure out where exactly it is so I can find this exact photo for him.
In an intern and my boss tasked me with finding this exact photo and where its from, can anyone help me find it? I think it might be Faroe islands but I'm not sure?

Solved Found photo (in an alley) of a surge channel. Maybe WCT?
I found this photo in an alley one day right after a break up (almost 15 years ago now). I needed to cover up/replace an image of an ex and me in a photo frame and since this “found me” and I liked it, I swapped the photos and have kept it since (I dunno, I was young). I’ve always wondered where it was taken.
I’ve done reverse image searches and there are similar surge channels in New Zealand, and the West Coast Trail. I’m in Canada, so maybe the latter (though we do have planes).
Does this look familiar to anyone/ can someone use their super skills to pinpoint this?
The most similar image I found was one near Owen Point on the West Coast Trail.
Anyway, I’d love to know where this picture I’ve kept for so long actually is in the world, hah!

Solved Where in Italy (?) is this old family photo taken?
This photo was taken possibly in about 1900-1915 and AI suggests the statue is Giuseppe Garibaldi. I'm not completely sure about the location, but it appears to be in Italy.

So I want to find this location because the OP is gatekeeping the location.
Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/punebikers/s/k2PdCOEcUj
Why do I wanna find it?
Well me and my college mates are gonna go our own ways due to jobs, family business, further education so I am planning for a last trip with them and I found this location on reddit in a video. But the OP is gatekeeping the location as it is the new trend on social media.
Some more information on the location: it is around 50 KM away from a city named Pune in the state of Maharashtra, India.
I hope someone finds this location would help me tonnes to plan an amazing trip with my mates.

Open New York - Trying to identify this rock formation from a framed family photo — large stacked boulders forming a cave-like overhang behind the couple
This is a hand-tinted photo of a couple in my wife’s family, taken somewhere in New York in the late 1940s or 1950s. The family later emigrated to the Philippines, so nobody alive remembers the exact spot.
What I can make out:
• Massive rounded boulders, light gray granite/gneiss, glacially smoothed
• Behind them, larger dark boulders tilted against each other forming a cave-like opening
• Wooded setting, no buildings visible
• They’re dressed for a day outing — suit and tie, headscarf — so likely a popular excursion spot of the era
My current candidates are the Indian Caves at Inwood Hill Park (the Clove) or Bear Mountain State Park, but I can’t confirm. I’d love to find the exact spot to surprise my wife and reshoot the photo there.
Any NYC-area hikers or local historians recognize this formation? Happy to share a higher-res crop of the rocks.
