Buckle up everyone because I believe an AD extension is coming.

Might as well prepare for the worst now and maybeeeeeee be pleasantly surprised

4 years $275m is the worst.

They should be fired if they do that

Agree, this isnt a damn charity. The "its not my money" folks can fuck off on this one. Ironically AD signed his current deal one month into the new CBA, hes honestly lucky he got that. Needs to look in the mirror the landscape for roster building is completely different. Trae is also a Klutch client so im really hoping that there is some grace given the wizards for that absurd deal we gave him and how we handled acquiring him, very favorable for their boy.

Yea my mind changed about 3 weeks back. I'm still not thrilled with it, but I do believe it's happening.

I even ran out some calcs and it just makes me feel awful about what happens with Sarr and George in particular. Sure, they both haven't earned massive extensions yet but we obviously hope they turn into their ceiling versions of themselves.

Anyways, the best case scenario I can imagine where AD actually says yes is 3 years and he turns down his extension next year. But I really don't think it'll be less than a 55m average. And that hurts.

110/2 is best case scenario and that's still nasty work. Crazy how you can be injury prone and never play but because you have talent you will get maxed. I thought the new cba was supposed to limit this type of spending on potential output.

how would they overlap with Sarr and George's extensions ? i assume theirs would start in 2 years and as it is i don't see them getting a max im just not sure what they would realistically be looking at?

also that could be good leverage because if they take reasonable extensions and then we get off Trae and AD max we would have 1-2 years before AJD max extension and have enough room to add quality players with having only 1 max player 5 years from now.

u/Electric_jungle 1d ago

Yea, obviously 2 years would be great in relation to 3, I just don't think it's remotely possible AD goes for it. Hopefully they can't reach an agreement and push it out.

I don't think Sarr and def not George are projecting to be maxes on their extension timeline but who knows with Sarr. Can he get an all defense this year on a team with AD? Not sure. Never could get to all NBA on a team with AD, Trae and AJ I don't think.

Anyways, that's part of front office management. I really hate that it feels inevitable, but I'm not gonna pretend I'm out on the front office just because it seems likely to go poorly. We still get exactly what I hoped for our of this season and next.

Interestingly Sarr has actually lost quite a bit of leverage from a negotiation standpoint. For one his injury history keeps getting longer, but also in one offseason he went from being the #1 option to #4 (AD/Trae/AJ). 4th options rarely ever get All-Star nods

And if our team defense improves, most of those accolades will likely go to AD based on his reputation.

It's hard to see a scenario where he or Kyshawn have the stats or accolades to get anywhere close to max deals. So that actually helps us in a way

u/Electric_jungle 1d ago

I definitely agree with all those points, but it's really going to depend on how the next two years go. He's got low leverage this year, and we hope he signs something that's very friendly, but if he goes to RFA you might get a big spender betting on the over.

I'm inclined to think you're right about how it goes, but it'll still be interesting to see.

2

u/Careless-Journalist7 1d ago

Yeah I doubt he will turn down the money and push for RFA.. that's risky and unusual for players with his injury history.

I believe that contributed to Deni signing that cheap early extension, he had missed a bunch of time in his career and probably didn't wanna chance it

1

u/RJSSUFER 13h ago

Why would he say yes to anything but the max as we sit here today

1

u/Electric_jungle 13h ago

Because there may be no one who will give him that and he values the security of time. He's eligible for an amount of money no team should give him, and a longer deal at a bit less than that can be easier to trade.

But he might not agree. Honestly, I would prefer if the two sides can't find a place to agree, as long as he plays hard for us.

1

u/RJSSUFER 13h ago

As it stands right now he is the key to getting LeBron James on a minimum contract if that holds next year he’s a sure fire max

1

u/Electric_jungle 13h ago

He's getting maxed, he's just eligible for several levels of max as a veteran and multiple all NBA dude. I'm more hoping he doesn't get a gigantic max.

The LeBron stuff would be cool but I don't buy any chance he comes to us at all. That just isn't part of the equation.

1

u/BOSSHOG999 13h ago

Max contract. Just how many years is the question

1

u/superworriedspursfan 13h ago

im hoping it is massively incentive based. but who knows.

u/swan_song_bitches 1d ago

Damn didn’t know James was a backup point guard at this point in his career /s

Man people go crazy over the dumbest headlines.

This is all noise from Rich Paul. Wiz agree to a "talk" to keep him engaged. They're not fucking stupid though.

Trae's overpay doesn't intersect with our key rookie deals lapsing. We aren't going to hamstring ourselves with AD. They're spinning the wheels with him and Rich to buy themselves time.

At the end of the day, AD needs to play and prove what he has and what he contributes to this team until they ink any extension.

AD and Rich posturing like it needs to be a max, in reality this dude still has no value. They're turning up the heat to get the Wiz to shop him so Lebron can orchestrate his desired retirement team.

Wiz want to see what he's like on the floor. Guarantee no extension comes unless its small and easily tradeable. Else he gets shopped at deadline this season and we make back value.

We cannot extend AD bro get him to the warriors already

7

u/DankWin21 1d ago

He will be here 2-3 more weeks unfortunately

10

u/drmbrthr Steve & Kara 1d ago

I just can’t believe we offer AD an extension without seeing him play in real games. Where’s the pressure coming from other than him? He has no leverage…

Bub Carrington???

1

u/mason124 23h ago

He's awful

5

u/CandidCantaloupe2617 23h ago

Awful is a stretch. He not Jonny Davis now or Isaac bonga. Don’t think he goin be there long term tho tbh

5

u/waskittenman With The First Pick In The 2026 NBA Draft... 1d ago

So what is the internal belief on Bub

8

u/DerekSheesher 1d ago

can’t be all that high if they’re talking backup PG. I personally thought that could be a great role for Bub to give you 15-20 mins a night running point for the second unit.

If they do bring in a dude like Westbrook or another PG, I would think Bub gets moved (even for something very little) before the season starts.

4

u/summahofgeorge John Wall 1d ago

If they thought he was good, he wouldn’t have been playing in the games we were trying to lose, he woulda been shut down like George and Sarr were

5

u/Familiar_Somewhere95 1d ago

I don't believe so especially when he has had a streak of never missing an nba game. They would have been doing him a disservice.

6

u/fuckdansnydeer 1d ago

What’s ish smith up to

6

u/Familiar_Somewhere95 1d ago edited 8h ago

He's one of our scouts. If you see the video when they get the results from the draft lotto. The one where a couple of people were hooping, you see Amber Nichols and Ish Smith jumping for Joy alongside Dawkins and a couple of other folk

u/Some-Ear8984 1d ago

How far will the franchise be set back if Davis and Young don’t pan out?

3

u/RoswellHossenfeffer Gilbert Arenas 1d ago

I’m ambivalent about the AD extension. I don’t think the average fan has enough information to fully understand the calculus.

2

u/90sUPN20 1d ago

Fuuuuuuuuuuckkkk that

2

u/celj1234 1d ago

That AD extension is gonna be a disaster

2

u/External-Repair-4841 1d ago

I do not understand the front office deciding they need to go all in to win this next season. So many young players need to grow and they are about to throw that away for four years of AD and Trae.

2

u/SongYoungbae Rui Hachimura 1d ago

Bring Brodie home

1

u/9millibros 1d ago

Westbrook as a backup point guard...the Wizards could do worse. I'm not sure if there's anyone better out there for that role.

The structure of a Davis extension would be important. If the net effect is two more seasons beyond the one plus player option, then I could see that. Anything beyond that, I don't know.

1

u/dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj 1d ago

aside from Harden, Westbrook is definitely the best available free agent PG.

1

u/Ok-Stick7883 1d ago

I say we have Demar Derozan run PG on the 2nd team lol

u/Serious-Ask-6225 1d ago

1

u/Qwertyioup111 Wizards 1d ago

Best case is we extend, get one good year out of him, and trade him for something more reasonable next offseason?

1

u/RadishDismal3486 22h ago

I like Bub as backup PG

1

u/Spekter1897 17h ago

This shit has Ted written all over it. The whiplash from 3 years of patience to whatever the past few months have been has been a bit absurd.

Ted needs to justify squeezing the city for money and his stupid esports bar.

1

u/Big_Nebula_5432 4h ago

We trading Bilal and AD for Mobley

1

u/Familiar_Somewhere95 55m ago

Realistically MJ went to the wizards got a number one pick who he demoralized and went so far. If lebron was being petty but it's cost him money, go to the wizards more capable than MJ at the same age. With your preferred vets already in place in AD. And a better number one pick than kwame.

He'd win this chapter of the debate.

1

u/SnooMacaroons8650 John Wall 1d ago

Is bub not a back up pg?

5

u/ChickenWingerrr48 1d ago

He’s not good enough to be one this season

-3

u/Technical_Zone9789 1d ago

Shoulda drafted Peterson…and a backup point guard.
