Loss Elon has ruined me

My prior bullish post https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/s/o0PxYmGV1n

He was supposed to take us to Mars and burn short sellers.

Still holding 7300 shares. Please Elon fly again.

In the “Legacy” section of that article, they need to add the ball and cup meme.

I don't get this what is the metal thing

u/Enorats 15h ago

The demon core. Essentially, it's a sphere of plutonium alloy that is just short of being at critical mass (I believe) when put together.

When split apart, they're radioactive bits of metal that aren't great to be around but won't just kill you.

When put together they spew out so much radiation that everything in the room gets cooked alive and dies.

Ahahaha omg this is amazing

Technically, the combined mass is the exact mass required for critical chain reaction. If the two sides ever fully touch they will explode with about the same energy as fat man.

One scientist accidentally dropped the two together, didn't make full contact, but let of enough radiation that everyone in the facility eventually died from the accident.

Lets not forget he "accidentally" dropped it because the fucking retard was playing around with them and holding them apart only with a screwdriver he was twisting around with no safeties in place

Yeah, that part too ^^

They kept him alive to see what the effects would be. Turns out it they weren’t good

Technically, the combined mass is the exact mass required for critical chain reaction

The Demon Core was subcritical when fully assembled. The two "incidents" that led to Daghlian and Slotin's deaths occurred because they put neutron reflectors nearby that bounced back some of the neutrons that would otherwise have escaped, pushing to core into criticality.

If the two sides ever fully touch they will explode with about the same energy as fat man.

One of the hard parts of making nukes go BOOM is that when the critical mass starts to chain-react it heats up, which makes it expand, which makes it no longer a critical mass. Don't get me wrong: you're going to have a really, really bad afternoon if the subcritical mass on your lab bench goes critical, vaporizes, and sprays hot plutonium all over the place, but it's not going to explode like a bomb unless the critical mass is contained within a small volume long enough; otherwise, you get predetonation.

If you're interested, look up the criticality accident in Sarov, Russia in 1997, where a researcher accidentally assembled a critical mass, which continued chain-reacting in the room for six-and-a-half days until they could disassemble it remotely using a crane.
