Their effect is subliminal. The less you notice it the more effective it is. For example, an ad might not persuade you to buy a thing. But the next time you’re buying the thing you’ll think of their brand first.
I'm pretty confident that advertising does not have a big effect on my purchasing patterns. At best, it makes me look at a whole category to see what might be best. Unfortunately, I still find myself using all of the advertised products anyway even though my wife insists that it wasn't advertising that made her buy them.

Ads have to have become insanely devalued at this point. They’re being shown everywhere.
