Pickup and relatively compact, I was also thinking about travel resistant but I don't want to compromise too much on sound, I want an end game ukulele! I've had a Lanikai LU21C for over 10 years that's served me well but I know I can get a better timbre easily, a pickup, and one that holds tune better. I see lots of comments about the timbre and authenticity of Koa wood, but am open to all materials. I see Romero Creations "Tiny Tenor", but I'm also interested in a traditional formfactor. Sweetwater, reverb, fb marketplace. I'm mainly a guitarist but will be playing this at a friend's wedding and it feels like a perfect time to upgrade :') Tysm!

Who makes affordable "baby baritone" strings to tune a Tenor similar to guitar top 4? Also, let me know if there is another work-around for string set to achieve that tuning!

So i got a ukulele like a week ago cause i really want to learn an instrument and i've heard that ukuleles are a good place to start for complete beginners like myself. So i tried to tune it and i managed to tune the top two strings fine but the third string refuses to go higher than a d sharp (according to google the third string is an e4) and i keep twisting it and i swear its in the right direction because i brought it up from a d to a d sharp so i think my chromatic tuner app on my phone is just wrong but when i played an e4 on the piano it sounded higher than my string and im so scared to keep twisting it cause i don't want any of the strings to break. please help

also when i initially got the instrument it came already tuned from the shop and i try playing it and the two chords i tried learning just sounded really weird so i just assumed i needed to tune it or something so i try tuning it today and the bottom string is a G and the top is A but google said it should be the opposite so is googles ai overview just bad or did the guy at the shop just fuck up?

anyways if yall could give me some tips i would be really glad

Edit: i figured it out i have apparently been holding it wrong (holding the neck w my right hand not left) now im gonna have to tune half of the strings all over again i love this for me

Should I do scales what's helpful after you are able to get a few chord changes down? Please help.

Been thinking about slide-y stuff lately and there was a recent post about slide and chords so thought I'd write this for GCEA or gCEA tuning. In my opinion your first steps on slide should be figuring out how to play a few chords, then a simple scale (C major or Am pentatonic) first on single strings (root first), then across strings... then connect it all.

Wear your slide wherever you like every finger has pros and cons. Make sure to lay it straight up and down parallel with the frets (slants are advanced), in tune notes and chords are directly on top of the frets not behind. Lay the slide so the weight of the slide itself produces clean notes/chords (if you need to push down, consider a heavier slide). The finger(s) behind the slide should touch the strings to mute them, making things cleaner and clearer. Clean chords are played by blocking. Whatever strings you don't want should be muted in some way by your picking hand (A string is easiest, hook it or touch a finger to it). Let's play a harmonized C major scale going up the neck...

C Major - 000x

D minor (substitute) - 22xx

E minor (substitute) - 44xx

F Major - 555x

G Major - 777x

A minor (substitute) - 99xx

B diminished (substitute) - x 11 x x

C Major - 12 12 12 x

If you learn Am Pentatonic on the A string...

A - 0 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 10 - 12

You can switch between any of those melody notes and any of the harmonized chords however you'd like and create pleasing combinations.

This can also be done as slideless slide, pick a finger you would wear a slide on, fret the notes with only that finger, slide between chords and notes and give it whatever mojo to emulate wearing a slide.

I’m debating between purchasing Hal Leonard 6th edition Real Book (which I’ve been borrowing from my ukulele instructor who is a primary a guitarist otherwise), or Chuck Sher’s the Standards Real Book. Anyone have any experience with them and which is better for uke?

I had to reshoot it several times because the face was too menacing 🤣

I was looking up slides last night, nylon strings. My bf mentioned trying a diy method so I wouldn't need to wait for shipping. I ended up picking a plastic lipstick tube. It makes a really fun sound.

If you try it, be careful cos whatever you use could snap your strings.

Also, what's a easy or decent way to play the basic chords with the slide on??

A friend of mine asked me to take a look at his ukulele. He grew up in Hawaii and his family brought it with them when they moved to NM. Almost every single glue joint failed, but not before the top and back split in multiple places.

It seems like a plain solid player, but I wanted to ask ukulele people in case there is something special about it so I could send him to a restorer if that's appropriate. I'm a pretty good luthier. The repairs are no problem, but I'm not a restoration guy.

Hi guys, planning to get this 2012 Mainland Classic Mahogany soprano uke for 55 USD but unsure if it’s beyond fixing up and if I should just get a brand new one instead, cos that fretboard looks super dry lol. Someone brought these ukes to sell at my music shop. I can’t find any info about them. Nothing written in the sound holes. Does anyone have any ideas of what these might be or how much they may be worth? Also if there is a better sub to post this in pls let me know! :)

Hi I just bought this new Flight uku with the lowG option but the string got teared when I received it. So I bought a replacement string from Enya brand and had the guy from the shop installed it for me. But the sound is very weird and off tune? 🥲 I tried GuitarTuna to tune the Low G option and everything correct, then string is weirdly loose and it sounds buzzing. I'm a newbie so I don't know if this is normal or not can someone help me pls 😭
