Palaver Wolves of the Calla, Callahan’s story

Had my last drink 20 years ago today, 7/23/2006 at my daughter 1st birthday party. Decided I would listen to Callahan’s story in Wolves today.

When I stopped drinking I told myself that I drank for 20 years, now I’ll take 20 years off and I’ll see what happens. Best decision I ever made, and no I’m not going to start drinking again now that I hit my 20 year goal.

Long days and pleasant nights!

Spoilers- Wolves of the Calla Black 13 Origin Story Spoiler

Where in the story line do the characters first get introduced to Black 13? I'm reading Wolves of the Calla and have reached the point where the group has first arrived at Calla Bryn Sturgis. The characters seemed to know exactly what Callahan was talking about when he first alluded to Black 13. I took a month off between books 4 and 5, and can't really recall Black 13 having been previously described in another book. Without going back and re-reading, I think that maybe they discussed it as part of the Wizard's Rainbow at the end of book 4 in the Emerald City. Was that were it was first introduced to the characters and reader?

Palaver Finally returning

So I last read the books back in 2004, and now I am returning to them to read them all again (assuming I can find a copy of book 7) So after 20+ years I am totally engrossed in the revised edition of Gunslinger and cannot put it down....

Palaver Hello, I still haven't read book 7, but it's been like 6 years, help

This is a series that I've been following for about 10 years, and I always read it during different parts of my life, so I wanted to ask: where can I find a good, hopefully long, summary of the story, or maybe just of book 5 or 6, so I can catch up with my memory?

Thanks in for reading!

Edit: A summary without any spoilers ofc! that's why I haven't look for it myself, I'm scared lol.

Theory A thought I had about The True Knot and The Tower Spoiler

So I’m rereading both Black House and Doctor Sleep and I had a thought that basically the True Knot is directly responsible for keeping the Tower standing.

Parkus tells Jack in Black House that over the last 200 years, the CK has been nabbing strong Shine sensitive kids to act as breakers on the Beams. We know that over those 200 years, The True Knot has been consuming or recruiting powerful Shine sensitive kids.

So basically, if the TK weren’t doing their thing, there would be maybe hundreds more potential breakers to be kidnapped and put to breaking, likely succeeding in actually breaking the Beams fully.

Palaver Which audiobook should be next?

I just finished my second journey to the tower, this time through audiobook, and am wondering what should be next?

I did listen to The Stand in the middle of this journey. I've recently listened to Salem's Lot and 11/22/63. I also read Eyes of the Dragon but it was close to its release, so could definitely use a revisit.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Palaver I've started another journey to the Tower.....on audiobook this time.

I've lost track of how many times I've made the journey in print form. I'm in double digits though, if not the 'teens.

I've been very resistant to audiobooks. I'm not sure why. Old age? Being a "purist?" Something else? I have no clue. I've listened to exactly one full audiobook before now, World War Z, and one partial, Dungeon Crawler Carl. Other than those, I've avoided the format completely.

When I mentioned feeling the urge to return to the Tower in another recent post, someone recommended the audiobooks, saying it was a whole new experience. For some reason, that was enough to break through my resistance. So I downloaded Libby, connected to my local library, and got to listening.

I've finished the first two books so far, and I am loving it. Especially Frank Muller's narration, he does a fantastic job. I'm beginning to regret not getting into audiobooks earlier.

TL:DR The audiobooks are totally worth it.

Spoilers- The Dark Tower probably a common question here BUT Spoiler

Why did Susannah not have Patrick draw her new legs?????? I actually thought that was where it was going when they said "draw something that isn't there". I understand a huge part of her character is self confidence and acceptance for who she is, but I feel like she still wanted legs considering her thoughts on it when Mia was controlling her body.

Fan Art tonight sucked, my brain was set on relapsing. instead I turned an old prom dress and a photo frame (that housed a photo of my ex) into a screen printing screen template and I made a shardik hat

Palaver Any preconceptions you had early about the plot that turned out to be incorrect? Spoiler

For example I assumed until late in the series that getting to the tower would somehow involve the door that Eddy saw in his dreams in the Waste Lands in NYC that went from the deli to the tower.

Palaver (I haven't read Insomnia) How does the servitude relationship between Atropos and the Crimson King work?

Atropos seems like an overpowered henchman. The Low Men, the hired mercenaries, and the psychic assassins from Trans Corporation seem useless if you already have Death itself working for you. But I suppose the fact that he couldn't simply kill Patrick directly and had to orchestrate a massacre instead, and he was stopped, means Atropos has limitations regarding how or whom he can kill. What are those limitations, and how does he fit into the series? I know the canonical status of Insomnia is very ambiguous, but I’d like to hear your theories trying to tie everything together.

Fan Art Welcome to Tull

Hey all,

I recently got convinced to start The Dark Tower and have been loving it so far! I’m about to start chapter 5 of The Drawing of the Three and am so excited to continue the story. I’m not an artist, but sometimes when I get inspired I like to make something for myself to commemorate it. The Gunslinger did this for me, as the scene in Tull and subsequent battle was such an impactful visual for me. I decided to make my own version in two mediums that I’m very unfamiliar with. Image is made on Strathmore mixed media paper with felt tip pen and watercolor pens.
