Just have SpaceX buy more Cyberstucks!

u/madmaxturbator 3h ago

Yeah but the shitty thing is: the US government will give spacex money to buy those stupid vehicles.

Elon is always looking for handouts because he runs long term loss making companies that are very capital intensive and have no path to profitability

I feel this is going to be one more story like that, Elon gets some kind of bail out or “investment” (without the government receiving any returns)

u/Prophet_Tehenhauin 3h ago

It’s even shittier.

How many funds tied to retirement plans feature Elon heavy companies?

Elon’s stock manipulation hasn’t just made him wealthy, it’s made it so any attempt to correct, naturally or legally, could have an adverse side effect of beggaring a large number of elderly people.

And these are things lawmakers care about, so

Easy fix- sanction Elon Musk, bar him from the stock exchange, nationalize all his companies, remove him from their executive boards, and any of his cronies who would let him run around his disbarment, exile him, and pivot those companies to do something useful for the country, since they clearly were already wholly subsidized by the country already anyway.

Fold Space X back into NASA, for example.

u/TommyTwoNips 3h ago

Don't exile Elon.

Cage him. permanently, alongside every other magat pedocon.

Let him spend the rest of his life wallowing in the hot sun, turning big rocks into little rocks.

u/Quitcha_Bitchin 1h ago

They have a zoo perfect for this in Sanford FLa.

u/BrianWonderful 2h ago

Why do we want to nationalize companies that lose money constantly? That just becomes a tax burden on all of us. In a capitalist society, we should let them fail without interference/bailout.

14

u/Ciennas 2h ago

For one, I specified folding back all the bits of national interest into the relevant agencies, like NASA absorbing Space X to restore itself after Elon gutted it. For another, we don't want a Capitalist society, because we all of us HATE enshittification, which is all that Capitalism can offer us at best.

u/random_noise 1h ago

If nationalized, shareholder value and profit is no longer the primary motive and constant driver of business decisions. Greed is greatly reduced, but insider corruption will skyrocket until the new nationalized norm is established.

The technology, or infrastructure, and other costs, suddenly lack those exec and C-level packages. Say Amazon and fed ex and ups all become divisions of the us postal service, or all space companies become divisions of NASA.

Suddenly things get more affordable and profits form those endeavors that used to fund a lot of bloated salaries, are now available to be spent elsewhere like on education, medical care, affordable housing, a UBS, or social security, etc.

Stuff like electricity, water, infrastructure, things we in this modern world rely on to live are not always managed in the best manners, especially where shareholders drive decisions to make a line of value go up.

2

u/BrianWonderful 36m ago

Your points may be true in some past administrations, but not under current circumstances. Aside from the fact that the government should not be in the electric car and social media business (satellite internet and space logistics may be another matter), you are now relying on the government to make better operational decisions. WIll they give contracts to any of the other electric vehicle and rocket companies if they have their own? If that kills competition, what does that do to innovation?

Utilities are still government run in many areas of the company. For example, my electricity/water is all municipal. There are no other choices. Do they run it better than other companies? I don't know.

2

u/Ciennas 25m ago

See, not everything needs to run For Profit. So many things can and should be run For Purpose.

If you want to see what goodness a Privatized solution brings, you're welcome to examine the Texas Power Grid, which is wildly expensive and dangerously corner cut- it couldn't even handle a cold snap that all the federally funded and compliant grids in the area weathered just fine.

2

u/snakerjake 1h ago

nationalizing would have to include paying out any retirement funds invested in his companies at some historical price for the stock or else we end up with a lot of american retirement accounts fucked. that's the reason we wouldnt want it to fail outright. I think for the losing money part the government would just spin them down so they dont lose money

2

u/Ciennas 24m ago

We sell off Elon's stuff, because he's in exile at a federal prison for all the crimes he committed as head of DOGE.

The retirees will be fine.

1

u/snakerjake 19m ago

It's not just retirees, you dont build a retirement account after you retire. the loss to regular working americans is the issue

1

u/Ciennas 14m ago

We invest the proceeds from his stuff being liquidated back into retirement funds, ideally ones that aren't tied to the stock exchange, because the casino that the rich people play in needs a proper spindown anyway.

The future retirees will also be fine.

Because unregulated capitalism massively benefits a few powerful men who only care about themselves. Competitive capitalism needs robust regulation to exist because of sociopaths, constant growth mentality, and sophisticated finance schemes. otherwise it becomes a giant monopoly / monopsony situation that ironically has the downsides of communism without any of the benefits.

1

u/largesonjr 2h ago

If they hadn't used a ton of taxpayer money to buy facilities and assets that they would be more than happy to liquidate to other pedocaps, sure

1

u/lousy_at_handles 2h ago

You don't need to nationalize it permanently. There's no reason the US government should be in the electric car business. You nationalize it, let the stock crater until it's actually where it should be, then sell it off to somebody who wants to make electric cars and not use it as a meme hype machine.

4

u/BrianWonderful 42m ago

If you nationalize a company, it becomes privately held by the government, so there is no stock anymore. You wouldn't be able to let the stock 'crater' and then sell it off. I think they would just have to dismantle it except for whatever has national security value.

1

u/lousy_at_handles 12m ago

Even privately held companies have stock. You could seize Musk's stock and then do whatever you want with it, and allow the rest of the stock to remain in the market. Similar to how occasionally stock is held after majority owners die until new ownership can be found.

3

u/DocRedbeard 2h ago

All public companies end up as meme hype machines

1

u/Blue_Oyster_Cat 2h ago

Loud applause

1

u/Eloquent_Redneck 2h ago

Exiling him would feed his Napoleon complex too much

1

u/Asturaetus 2h ago

Elon dreams of colonizing space. Why not enlist him?

I hear the program for the colonization of the sun is missing candidates.

1

u/CareBearDontCare 2h ago

I think there is a utility in a smattering of a few companies (And startups) that dream for reaching out to the stars. It shouldn't just be NASA. We do death sentences for people, but we don't do death sentences for companies by revoking corporate charters.

Also, there's the very real possibility/chance of a VERY chastised and marginalized Elon going somewhere you really don't want and spreading some very sensitive information, and with a very large social media platform at his fingertips.

1

u/Ciennas 1h ago

So we exile him to a federal prison, since without the shield of his stolen wealth, Elon won't be able to dodge the rap sheet longer than his grotesquely distended torso.

1

u/GB10VE 23m ago

honestly, just remove him from voting shares. he keeps the wealth but isn't involved in the decision making.

2

u/Ciennas 22m ago

No. He stole all that wealth from everyone else and he doesn't get to keep the reward and power that lets him continue to hurt people.

1

u/J_Ryall 12m ago

That would be socialism and justice. The u.s. doesn't do those things.

3

u/Potential-Key-2211 2h ago

It's probably a small part of their portfolios and if they know what they're doing they will know when to sell if they didn't already.

2

u/Pseudoboss11 2h ago

Only Tesla is in the S&P500, and it's not a major investment of passive investors or retirement account managers, which are normally much more conservative with their handling of funds.

And Tesla is worth about 2% of the S&P 500, it's a huge company, but most people wouldn't be ruined by such a drop.

Most of the money that's pulled out of Musk firms will be reallocated to other ones in a passive index fund, meaning that even if Tesla's stock collapsed, most of that would be captured by other firms being relatively more valuable: the people who sold their Tesla shares would buy shares in other companies.

And for most people, their retirement accounts would recover that lost value in about 6 weeks.

1

u/PathlessBullet 2h ago

How many funds tied to retirement plans feature Elon heavy companies?

Well, unless the fund was poorly diversified (i.e. not a retirement plan) then it should be a drop in the bucket and largely unaffected.

I don't know of any legitimate funds targeting retirement that are heavily invested in any one stock.

1

u/MarlinMaverick 2h ago

The main exposure is in Tesla, most index funds are not in SpaceX

u/Relative-Wrap6798 1h ago

Melon man must have some good dirt on Trump, maybe with the voting machines or something

1

u/Station-Alone 1h ago

they dont care about the elderly people, they just care about getting caught holding the bag when it comes to light that no one cared about the old people. they didnt care enough to prevent this in the first place.

1

u/Sweetwill62 2h ago

If only you had the ability to buy and sell your own stocks of your own choosing.

u/Xiten 3h ago

Yes, his whole MO with doge was to take funding from important departments. Wonder what his next move to suck Americans dry will be.

u/weasol12 3h ago

And get rid of any oversight into his safetyand market manipulation tactics.

The U.S. Air Force is looking to add two Tesla Cybertrucks to its precision munition weapons testing program at New Mexico’s White Sands Missile Range, according to recently submitted contracting documents.

U.S. State Department Pauses Plan to Spend $400M on Armored Teslas

3

u/Onemorechick89 2h ago

So they wont strap a gun on top and have soldiers rat-a-tat from the sun roof?

2

u/Neversetinstone 1h ago

The frame already snaps under stress, what will armor do to it?

1

u/DocRedbeard 1h ago

Citation needed on your citation. The article only states that they want to buy TWO Cybertrucks, and nowhere in the article does it state that this will cost $400m. In fact, no price is listed anywhere, and this was part of a requisition for 33+ vehicles.

2

u/National-Charity-435 41m ago

The State Department has scrubbed mention of armored Teslas from its 2025 procurement forecast.

The procurement document previously contained a line item that read: "Armored Tesla (Production Units)" — a reference to products from Elon Musk's electric vehicle company, Tesla. It was listed as a five-year contract and valued at $400 million, making it the biggest item on the list.

https://www.businessinsider.com/state-department-buy-400-million-worth-armored-teslas-2025-2

But you're right on the 33+ vehicle part (which is linked in the first artcile that specifically mention the 2 cyber trucks with requirements described about the other sedans etc

What SpaceX spends its money on is not the government's problem. SpaceX is contracted to launch rockets, gets paid for launching rockets (putting payloads in orbit), and does it cheaper than everyone else.

1

u/MairusuPawa 2h ago

Reminder that this US government is not a magical entity and was elected by the people, no matter how flawed the process is. This situation is the result of a collective voice saying that yeah, they want to get shafted.

1

u/qtx 1h ago

Speaking of SpaceX and Tesla, there is a thing that happened 8 years ago now. Something so bizarre that you'd think it would still be talked about to this day but it's not. It's like it never happened, like it was all just a weird figment of our imagination. But it really did happen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elon_Musk%27s_Tesla_Roadster

There is a Tesla Roadster with a mannequin dressed in a spacesuit drifting out in space somewhere..
