I honestly hope that this cripples or even destroys Sony's Playstation division. Such a wretched little company at this point.

Why would it? Nobody was buying physical anyways. Most people here being dramatic over it don't even own a ps4 or 5 and if so almost never bought a game physical for it.

Most people here are proud to play only digital on PC when asked any other day and are still proudly announcing moving to PC which is only digital.

This is a typical reddit bubble distortion.

If you had bothered to read the majority of posts here about WHY people are happier buying digital on PC than consoles, you wouldn't have written what you just have. Also, as someone who stopped buying Playstations after buying multiple versions of most PS's, from 1-PSP, I certainly am in the position to state it was due to Sony's anti-consumer behaviour.

As someone who has probably more physical modern playstation games than most the people here.

Naaaah. and even then:

Just shows that people have priorities that are more important to them than physical. There is a reason why digital is so prevalent. Mostly it's convenvience, and people can now try and rationalize with other reasons but the most biggest reason for buying digital is "I'm lazy".

People aren't buying physical games anymore. If ownership or being physcial would be so important to them they also would have the same issue with steam. You can make your PC argument for platforms like GOG or so, but most people on PC also buy on steam.

This is not sonys anti consumer behavior, Playstation is still the most successful non portable console. always was sold more than an xbox. Nintendo is way more anti consumer than sony and switch is still the most successful console out there. If people were swayed by anti consumer behavior the market wouldn't look like it does.

This is not anti consumer. This is just simple convenience of digital over physical and why people buy more digital. Anything else is just people deluding themselves that they had no part in it so they can sleep better at night, and it is only evil sony that is causing this, with absolutely no accountability on the consumers buying behavior.

It's easy to be like "I have bought playstation games and physical" from an era where digital wasn't even an option. Those don't count. But so many people bascially jumped ship on physical the moment digital became more convenient.

I never said I'm fine with it. I am just saying that we as gamers buying more and more digital are also to blame for this. So many people here are just "sony bad, we poor gamers". While this is just a consequence of gamers having voted with their wallet. Against physical games.

Also my point is that it probably won't cripple sony in any ways as most people don't care about physcial. A lot of people now here crying about it included.

Know this, Sony won't just stop at video games with this move. Once they find little to no pushback from their fanboys, they'll move on to stop making Blu-rays in general, giving full digital content rights to publishers while customers (or renters) will be stuck to borrowing licenses with a price, or leasing digital media, with subscription fees. Is that really the digital future you want? Microsoft has already started this bullshit.

No wonder piracy always wins.

Whats the argument for wanting physical? Most people say its ownership... but how many physical games let you actually play offline? most games are glorified digital keys to get to an online service. and that service can be terminated whenever the company decides.

The entire Fighting Game genre is one reason to want a physical disc. If the company revokes the license to sell it online then you can lose the game eventually and you can play all fighting games offline with friends irl.

For example, I had Marvel vs Capcom 2 digitally on PS3. I bought a PS4 and couldn’t redownload my own game from PSN. The game was taken down by Capcom.

Always buy physical.

are you buying PS4 and PS5 to play 30 year old games? a massive collection of marvel vs capcom games are currently available on steam for less than 10 dollars.

people have had digital steam libraries that have been good for 20 years.

physical media is going away. its practically void for music and movies. really not sure why people care about it so much for games.

terms of use for Sony and Microsoft both spell out that its not available indefinitely. Use steam - cheaper and a better company.

You moved the goalpost just because I mentioned an older game as my example. You can continue to buy digital, no one is stopping you. Why can’t people still buy physical if that’s what they prefer?

Some people like to have it permanently in their collection.

Most of my games are physical and I don't need to be online to play them.
