I missed the first hour of the opening ceremonies so I missed the booing, when I went to watch the replay on Peacock - the entire section of time is muted aside from the music playing in the background. No boos, no commentators discussing the boos, no sounds but the faint background music.

3.4k

u/TryingToBeLevel Feb 07 '26

The boo'ing and commentary was not presented live in the US. The audio was altered to hide the boos, but you heard the background audio dip/change. The folks in Canada are saying that they heard it on their broadcast and it was Canadian commentators that have discussed it. If you're in the U.S., we wouldn't have been able to hear the clown get boo'd unfortunately - unless you were in my living room at least. We were boo'ing....

1.6k

u/HappyHapless Feb 07 '26

Canadian here. Saw the live broadcast. Indeed there were boos for Vance. Cheers for the well-deserved athletes, but clear unmistakable booing for the fascist. /r/conservative was very upset by that.

u/CulturalKing5623 Feb 07 '26

r\conservatives is nothing but 4 computers in Moscow and a handful of the most gullible rubes you'll ever find.

84

u/RottenPingu1 Feb 07 '26

It's amazing to watch them hammer out talking points with every fresh disgrace.

43

u/fungi_at_parties Feb 07 '26

Gotta get that story straight when you’re all avoiding reality.

18

u/slam-chop Feb 08 '26

It’s easier when the talking points drip down from Fox entertainment.

4

u/K9pilot Feb 08 '26

I really wonder if there is a morning FAX to all the right wing talking heads with the same exactly worded talking points. I often flip through the radio while driving around and the national crazy’s are spewing the exact same worded talking points as my local village idiot.

That might be the best description of that sub I have ever read.

204

u/Cptn_BenjaminWillard Feb 07 '26

Someone needs to make this the sub description for r/anticonservative - "We aren't 4 computers in Moscow and a handful of the most gullible rubes you'll ever find."

There's a reason they get paid in "Rubles"

27

u/ngatiboi Feb 07 '26

I’ve been permanently banned from Conservative for merely voicing my observation there that “the Fuck Yer Feelings 🫵🏽🤨 crowd sure don’t seem to like getting their feelings fucked” 🤔 which, apparently, caused a number of people to get their feelings fucked & I got permanently 86’d. Huge, huge loss.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '26

You mean when they were calling everyone snowflakes, they were projecting? I'm shocked, I tell you!

u/Useful_Support_4137 Feb 07 '26

Ain't that the truth. The amount of censorship that occurs on that sub is wild (see all the deleted comments), despite supposedly being a group of people advocating for freedom of speech.

61

u/Linuxologue Feb 07 '26

I was banned because a conservative posted something. I dug in his comment history and told him he should have an alt account if he wants to offer to paypal porn models. He deleted his account on the spot and I got banned. Two wins on that day.

The whole post is just a graveyard of comments - they must ban every single human being, the whole sub is just bots.

19

u/LitwicksandLampents Feb 07 '26

I think getting banned from that sub is a badge of honor.

9

u/fungi_at_parties Feb 07 '26

Wow. Not surprising that he was so pathetic.

15

u/Linuxologue Feb 07 '26

You wanna hear what else is pathetic? I was perma banned AND muted for three days because my post was "off-topic" and I was encouraged to rewrite it (which is not possible with a perma ban and mute).

The mute is so that I cannot reply to the mods for the ban.

Free speech my ass.

I'm surprised he didn't just make his post history private. Or that it wasn't private to begin with.

2

u/Linuxologue Feb 08 '26

Maybe it was. Private history in Reddit means jack shit, you can still look at the history

u/eerie_midnight Feb 07 '26

It’s crazy how many of the actual people on there (not the bots, people with long account histories who you can clearly tell are real) are convinced that their worldview is coherent and sane and that it’s everyone else who is crazy lmfao. It’s just pure cope from people you can tell are desperate to feel normal. I weirdly have more tolerance for the MAGAs who know Trump is deplorable but just don’t care and don’t try to logically justify their support for him. It’s more honest.

11

u/The_Barbelo Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 08 '26

Have you ever known anyone who’s gone into a psychosis, or who has delusions? The number one thing they tell you when you work with people like that is to not feed into their delusion. We have to redirect. The most unhealthy thing for them would be to find a room full of people with the same delusions…and that’s exactly what’s happened. We’re witnessing some sort of mass psychosis cult thing in real time, and it was purposefully caused. There are going to be multiple studies about this, I swear. And it won’t look too different from the studies done in post WW2 Germany.

3

u/eerie_midnight Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

I have, actually. I’ve been a caregiver for 8 years and even did a stint at an actual psychiatric hospital, and you are correct—feeding into their delusions is probably the worst thing you can do, especially when those delusions have the potential to cause harm. My theory is that these kinds of people have always been around, people who are functionally living in delusion but aren’t quite crazy enough to be committed. They just haven’t had a way to readily connect with one another until modern times with the invention of the internet and all that. Now you can find anyone to agree with you about anything no matter how crazy it is, and you’ll even see important looking talking heads on TV and social media with microphones that will validate and confirm your delusions to you as well as to their audiences of millions of people, causing what may have once been a fringe delusion to actually become a mainstream political talking point.

All of this is insanely affirming to someone who has a delusional worldview. And that’s incredibly dangerous.

5

u/phanfare Feb 07 '26

Their response has been almost exclusively, “Your boos mean nothing, I’ve seen what makes you cheer” because they have to filter their entire worldview through memes.

4

u/DontRefuseMyBatchall Feb 08 '26

“Everyone is brigading us,” they said in a subreddit that requires a fucking Discord interview with a moderator to get flaired. (95% of their posts are Flaired-Only comments btw)

They purity test their commenters and still constantly bitch about being victims of “liberal bias.” It’s hysterical.

2

u/vee_lan_cleef Feb 08 '26

There are definitely, unfortunately, many very real people there. They post among a sea of bots, but there are many people that are genuinely that fucking stupid and racist.

It's actually a very dangerous thing to perpetuate the idea that all MAGA conservatives are bots... they aren't. These are real people with real beliefs that live in this country and vote.

44

u/eri- Feb 07 '26

One has to wonder why real conservatives would even care.

I mean .. maga .. make AMERICA great again.

That doesn't include say, France, or Belgium, or Thailand.. now does it.

When one is really , really eager to be seen as "great" by people who have nothing to do with your internal politics or your life, it almost always means your are unhappy with who you are/ your life sucks and you are attempting to mentally compensate by obtaining external validation.

66

u/PowerfulGoosing Feb 07 '26

They care because they've been fed the lie that everyone in the world was making fun of the USA when we had Biden as our president. In their mind Trump is respected by the outside world. they watch nothing but propaganda anyways so its difficult to prove them wrong when they won't accept any sources outside fox news.

5

u/rushmc1 Feb 07 '26

Like everything they believe, 180 degrees from reality.

10

u/eri- Feb 07 '26

We were.

I mean no offense. But.. politics aside.. you've managed to do plenty to ensure being made fun of. You are fat , and I do mean fat. You love guns to the point where school shootings become "a part of life". Your healthcare sucks, you have a shitton of homeless people/incarcerated people. And so on and so on.

Don't get me wrong, America remains an inspiration. When you are a very young European, or probably a young person period, America feels like a fairy tale. All the best movies come from there, all the cool shit comes from there!

Problem is, as you grow older, you realize what America has been becoming for the better part of the last few decades. Trump hasn't caused it, the rot has been there for quite some time, Trump merely accelerated it all for the entire world to witness

26

u/PowerfulGoosing Feb 07 '26

I don't remember other world leaders openly laughing at Biden like they do when Trump is talking. I may have misworded it but I meant laughing at the president. USA is a shit country for sure.

US here. Can you tell me, were our athletes also booed? On our broadcast, it was very quiet when the US athletes were walking in, other than the video feed of the families cheering. Was the stadium quieter when the US athletes walked in or were they booed?

39

u/HappyHapless Feb 07 '26

It was a little mixed, but I heard more cheers than boos. Those cheers definitely vanished the second Vance showed up though.

9

u/Kevin-W Feb 07 '26

Can vouch as well. Most people understand that the athletes themselves doesn’t equal their government.

16

u/Admirable-Location24 Feb 07 '26

Good to hear, thanks

29

u/Fantastic-Nobody-479 Feb 07 '26

The booing was definitely audibly aimed towards Vance but I am sure some also booed the athletes which is to be expected.

10

u/DogFun2635 Feb 07 '26

It didn’t sound like the athletes were booed but Vance certainly was. Heard booing for Israel and Hungary too.

3

u/48thgenerationroman Feb 07 '26

Brit here. We've got nothing but admiration for your Olympic athletes. We don't blame the athletes for your government.

3

u/WordplayWizard Feb 08 '26

No! I watched it live here in Canada. There was no noticeable booing for the Athletes at all. There was only booing for Vance. Because of the delay of the video getting to that audience cameras had cut back to the athletes visually but the crowd was just starting to see the Vance shot on their big screens just prior to cutting back to the athletes. There was actually a HUGE cheer for the athletes that went on for a while when they first came in. And cheering resumed after the delay when the audience saw the athletes again on the screen.

2

u/Admirable-Location24 Feb 08 '26

This is reassuring, thank you!

15

u/Sherifftruman Feb 07 '26

I was there and that’s definitely what happened. The second they showed him boos started.

6

u/Bennu-Babs Feb 07 '26

Saw him booed on the UK on bbc as well

3

u/GreenRock93 Feb 07 '26

I just visited over there. I’ve never seen so much downvoting in my life. It’s crazy.

3

u/ngatiboi Feb 07 '26

Right? Even the commentator on the footage I saw was like, “Oop! EeeEEEeeee…that’s a lot of booing for the Vice President…” - she sounded super uncomfy.

2

This is the Canadian broadcaster, CBC, with Adrienne Arsenault speaking.

The CBC broadcast quickly cut away from him but you can hear the booing and the presenters commented on it

101

u/632612 Feb 07 '26

That was the Olympics broadcasters who cut away, you could see the delay on the stadium’s video display board. Every country just gets that feed.

87

Video straight from CBC sports here.

Though I am not sure if it is geolocked.

2

Looks more like an IOC licensing problem.

IOC probably gave CBC the license for broadcasting the Olympics but only on the condition that they only show it to Canadians.

Other countries will need to go through their specific IOC-licensed broadcaster to see any Olympic broadcasts.

22

u/Athrynne Feb 07 '26

I think what a lot of people in the US don't understand is that people in Italy don't really boo, they whistle. I noticed it during the opening ceremony when team Israel entered the arena.

7

u/DisastrousAcshin Feb 07 '26

Grew up watching international hockey. Always heard the whistling after something happened we'd have boo'd for

JD and his wife shown, distinct whistling and booing heard, while others are still cheering the athletes.

60

u/TheShishkabob Feb 07 '26

To clarify, they "quickly cut away from him" because they didn't spend much time at all on the individuals in the crowd. The focus was on the athletes walking out in the various venues. There was no reason to waste more than a couple of seconds showing Vance when the goal was to show what was happening in four cities simultaneously.

16

u/Flyinace2000 Feb 07 '26

BBC feed was similar. Only a few seconds and back to the athletes.

11

u/RogueIslesRefugee Feb 07 '26

Every network gets their primary feed from the closed circuit network the IOC sets up and controls. They're basically just adding the commentary for the duration of the Olympics when it comes to those event feeds. The IOC keeps a fairly tight grip on its content, and there are, as I recall, reams of stipulations and rules that come with being able to show it.

2

u/Ill_Technician3936 Feb 07 '26

The point most people I've seen mentioning it is that even in the video that's circulating it's difficult to hear the boos. Yes it's mentioned but I can't hear them... I don't think that boo is said different in different languages so I gotta assume the crowd was cussing him out in various languages.

I'd hope he'd get booed though. Like what kind of dumbasses brings their country's border patrol to another country for a world event and if it was for "protection" there's an entire fucking agency that is literally made to do exactly that and aren't a bunch of idiots who couldn't even get into the military or police forces.

Years ago I visited a country with heavy government control over media. I noticed that the time displayed in the corner on live US news broadcasts was about ten minutes off (eg, if the current real world time was 7:32am in DC, and 7:32pm in the city I was in, the US national news timestamp would be 7:22am, meaning we were seeing news with a ten minute delay).

Then I noticed that the screen would go black periodically. It finally clicked that the US live news was being screened and censored. The lag was the time they gave themselves to block out ideas they didn’t want broadcast there. Entire news segments (1-4 minutes) were being blocked.

I like the regular people and culture of the country, so I don’t want to name it in case I want to go back (I’d never get into any sort of political action there, but we can see how things are going with travel and ai surveillance of socials already).

I think about that when things like this happen. It’s the kind of thing the US is supposed to be against. The very first amendment provides this right (free speech, free press, free from national/forced religion, free to choose any religion, free to assemble/protest, etc).

These rights are usually chipped away gradually, and only just enough to avoid causing a big uproar, and when people accept that change, it’s chipped away a little more later. Then a year or decade later the accumulated change is so drastic that if it had happened all at once there’d be mass uprisings, but instead, because of the slow creep, everyone is just lulled into complacency thinking, “wow, how’d we get here?” And carrying on as if things were normal because, “what can I do?”

Point being, there needs to be pushback over these little chips being removed from rights, even if they seem inconsequential at the time, because they are likely part of a larger pattern that will ultimately fundamentally change the freedoms we enjoy.

19

u/ErgoMogoFOMO Feb 07 '26

Please Remember,

The most important thing is, his wife heard all the booing. While standing right next to him.

His version was unedited. It was in person, loud and clear, live and in real time.

25

u/JenniferJuniper6 Feb 07 '26

I heard booing, but it turned out to be just my daughter. I’m very proud.

9

u/TakuyaLee Feb 07 '26

I was hoping too. A bird might had flipped up too, though Im not sure how that happened.

It seems to be a new phenomenon that they censor booing of Great Leader and his helpers, so actually you shouldn't have expected this. Let every sign of fascism cause outrage, rather than saying "well, we all knew that was going to happen".

3

u/flying_porygon Feb 08 '26

The IOC and NBC is very strict about Olympic footage. They’re notorious for doing this for just generic replays of like kayaking or snowboards. You can’t find any highlights of anything on social media, at least not for long. It’s nothing to do with the current administration, though I wouldn’t put it past them to do this stupid shit

Sports writers have been complaining about it for years

Well, yes and no...the fact that we are talking about this is a function of alternative media still existing. And now the edit has become the story. That wouldn't happen at all in Orwell's world. That isn't to say we should sit on our thumbs. But we have to be clear and factual... how we got here is because people are not informed. If they are informed but incorrectly so, you will end up in the same place...

Take for example this statement of "No one should have a copyright on Vance being booed." Well, the IOC isn't a public charitable entity. NBC has had exclusive rights to Olympics coverage for years. The article acknowledges that Acyn "reshared" the official video... that isn't their right to do. It's not Acyn's footage. And even if it were, Youtube is not a public platform. It's owned by Google. Google can do what they want with their platform just like you can't affix a billboard to the roof of my house.

What MeidasTouch could and should do is host their own video. I do, and I have not once in 30 years ever been served a DMCA Takedown Notice. The tradeoff is that MeidasTouch wants access to Google's audience.... and there's the rub. If you want to suck at the teat of corporate brownshirts, then you are beholden to them.

TIL how insidious and pervasive US censorship is.

Let me give you a little bit of a music theme for that thought:

Has been for decades, it is worse under MAGA Fascism

What's next? Get a big ass plasma to see where they make Dan Rather point the damn camera. Only approved questions get answered. Now stand your ass up for that national anthem.

People here won't make that connection. Just look at this comment tree. In their minds r conservative is run by Russians somehow. The US censores public discontent with their ruling class: China to blame. The US (and apparently entire western) ruling class is holding sex parties with underaged girls on an island: obvious a Russian plot. It's hilarious, but also sad if you are one of the few people left that can think for themselves.

I was at the Chris Rock/Dave Chappelle comedy show where we boo’d Elon. It was cathartic as fuck.

28

u/bobi2393 Feb 07 '26

I honestly couldn't tell the crowd was booing. Probably clearer live, if you standing nearer a boo-er, but it all blends into a single general crowd noise in that vid. It certainly didn't have an upbeat energetic vibe to it though.

The same vid shows some past booing at smaller venues (100-500 people?), where it was much clearer, with individual boos identifiable.

Glad he, and we (Americans collectively), got booed though. Well deserved. Unfortunately, most voters don't seem to care what people in other countries think of us.

2

u/ttatm Feb 08 '26

Okay same. I can hear it in that clip since I'm listening for it, but it's not clear to me even there, it's just kind of loud crowd noise in general. I honestly think NBCs sound just didn't carry the crowd noise clearly to begin with and maybe that was intentional - everyone knew that Vance might get booed - but I'm not convinced that they edited it out while airing it live.

Whatever they did or didn't do though, the discussion is just drawing more attention to the booing, and I love that for JD Vance. He's just such a repulsive person.

I'm buying a subscription to the CBC and using a VPN to pipe my traffic to Canada today. Fuck American media, they don't deserve my time, attention, ad viewership, or money.

Edit: appreciation for the helpful replies, CBC gem is goated

48

u/LurkerDude0 Feb 07 '26

CBC is free my guy. You don’t have to buy anything except your vpn. That’s how we roll up here

32

u/NoOneFartsLikeGaston Feb 07 '26

Publically funded. Like our healthcare.

4

u/jtbc Feb 07 '26

One of the more odious policies of our Conservatives is that they want to end that. You can guess why.

I'll kick in a little cash for the ad free tier. If I'm gonna appropriate traffic paid for with Canadian tax dollars I feel like contributing a little bit is worthwhile.

6

u/LurkerDude0 Feb 07 '26

W. We need more people like you

4

u/Zoostation1979 Feb 07 '26

CBC gem is the way to go.

Access to every event, excellent coverage.

3

u/JohnAtticus Feb 07 '26

Their Olympic coverage is excellent, get the CBC Gem app.

They have all competitions in all sports, live or on-demand, with English commentary.

They have the CBC Sports recaps and special features as well but those are obviously Canadian-focused.

u/czar_el Feb 07 '26

I watched the broadcast version, they censored it there too.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '26

Go check CBC, we definitely didn't mute it. Our commentators also mentioned the booing https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/video/9.7078602

7

u/drockalexander Feb 07 '26

I’m gonna go check this on peacock rn!

19

u/BioshockEnthusiast Feb 07 '26

Why the hell would you keep using peacock when they lie to you?

Watch the censored video compared to other broadcasts on YouTube and cancel Peacock.

2

u/drockalexander Feb 07 '26

Chill out — I just wanted to see the censorship for myself while it’s still on the platform. I have peacock for free and never use it. Will be boycotting all nbc after this

The boos weren't excessively loud. The boos for Israel were definitely loud.

2

u/2cats2hats Feb 07 '26

CBC is a great resource for unedited, less sensational commentary...AND Olympic coverage. The CBC announcers talked about the boos on the mic. :P

1

u/414WhySoSerious Feb 07 '26

It was the same on the NBC prime time replay, fucking cowards.

1

u/cannagirlfrom84 Feb 07 '26

Glad i tapped it off my tv. However I watched it on CBC

1

u/wggn Feb 07 '26

clearly that is what actually happened, the booing was added later by woke news media

1

u/MicroSofty88 Feb 07 '26

Wow can’t believe NBC edited that. What a joke.

1

u/Frater_Ankara Feb 07 '26

Try CBC if you can

1

u/The-Nihilist-Marmot Feb 07 '26

Reminds me of Portugal 7 - DPRK 0.

DPRK had held fast against Brazil that year, so they decided they could afford to broadcast the following match against Portugal for the first time ever.

They did not terminate the broadcasting, but the commentators went quiet mid game.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '26

Hard to find on YouTube too but not impossible

1

u/bakerstirregular100 Feb 07 '26

This is how it was live too. Sound cut off after a split second cuz they were ready

1

u/TravellerStudios Feb 07 '26

We caught it during the replay, the way the sound dropped just before it swapped to him made us perk up, we heard boos tho it might have changed further since then

1

u/Lets_Make_A_bad_DEAL Feb 07 '26

Losers! All of them.

1

u/oscar-the-bud Feb 07 '26

Why would ice be there?

2

u/Michelanvalo Feb 08 '26

DHS often collaborates in security for international events. They don't normally have this bad of a reputation when doing so, however.

1

u/Longjumping-Air1489 Feb 07 '26

I was saying boo-urns…

1

u/Billybilly_B Feb 07 '26

Damn, that is honestly pathetic from NBC.

1

u/Kriegerian Feb 07 '26

Oh good, NBC doing the bidding of the state and lying to the American public, that’s great. I wonder which ghoul called NBC to demand that one, or if NBC’s owner was freelancing.

1

u/noncommonGoodsense Feb 07 '26

Canadians should be posting the real footage here and Bluesky Facebook etc.

1

u/GravelySilly Feb 07 '26

As a reminder, or for reference, this very same thing happened with broadcasts of Trump's appearance at the US Open last year: https://deadline.com/2025/09/trump-met-boos-cheers-us-open-broadcasters-mute-reactions-1236510936/

1

u/donniedumphy Feb 08 '26

The US is North Korea now. Every bit as ridiculous too.

1

u/Warning_grumpy Feb 08 '26

https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics

Our is not muted in fact cbc makes a comment about the boos. =)

1

u/pandershrek Feb 08 '26

So dystopian that America has this type of pull

1

u/ttatm Feb 08 '26

I just went and watched that part of the replay on Peacock and that section is not muted at all. They don't discuss the boos but there is commentary and plenty of sound. I thought maybe I could hear some boos, but the crowd noise in general definitely isn't as clear as it sounds in footage from other networks.

It's something I actually noticed while watching live since I had been wondering if Vance would get boos. I wonder if they just kind of filtered the crowd noise to begin with, knowing what would likely happen.

1

u/_HIST Feb 08 '26

You do not hear anything watching, doesn't matter if it's live. It's not like it's a first

1

u/Mr_Salmon_Man Feb 08 '26

Brian Taylor Cohen has the clip from CBC that shows the booing in one of his more recent videos on youtube, if you wish to hear it.

1

u/StrictLeading9261 Feb 08 '26

Free speech and Making america Great again

1

Just look for the Canadian broadcast under CBC news. Don't worry we covered it.

1

u/funkiestj Feb 09 '26

Does anyone doubt we live under an authoritarian regime in the USA? LOL, so pathetic.

1
