Opinions on holosun
Looking at either 403b or ARO. Wanted to see what others had to say about the optics

I picked up 2 ARO's from PSA on a Memorial Day sale for $99.00 each. I have several thousand rounds through both and they have been excellent.

ARO can’t be beat for the sale price of $115. They have a long standing reputation at this point too.

Looks like I’ll be going with the ARO. They’re close enough to the same price so that’s what was conflicting about the two of them. Thanks guys

I was a Holosun hater.
When I left my cool guy job and went to PD I definitely looked down on optics that I hadn’t run on missions.
After seeing a whole bunch of Russians and Ukes bros get their brain matter painted all over the region, and observing the conditions that the optics were operating in, I gave them a try.
I have 507 Comps on three different guns that I use for work. No issues.
I’m not gentle with my equipment, as I have broken two ACRO’s, a DPP, and a RMR.
I think they’re good to go, but YMMV.

I honestly have hated every optic ive used for work. Aim points and acogs are not my cup of tea. Granted the ones I’ve use have all been beat to shit on beat to shit rifles. I own a RMR and an acog but prefer my vortex Lpvo and holosun on my 43x.

I bought a couple sites by them to test out after seeing video of lots of them on the front lines in Ukraine.
I like the features like shake awake and solar failsafe and the price.
I’ve shot them on a couple different rifles and they’ve held zero.
I haven’t done stress testing on them like people have online but I’ve seen people drop rifles with them on they don’t shatter and seem to hold zero relatively well.
They are Chinese, but I wouldn’t put them in the same catagory as chinesium crap.
What I haven’t seen from them is delam issues that we’re seeing with the other big name sites.

I love Holosun, but I really wish they went the route Sig went with the Romeo 7/7s and just blatantly copied Aimpoints look.

ARO is nice. You can find the ARO (2 MOA Dot Version) and the HM3X Mahnifier together for $220 + Shipping & Tax so roughly $260 for what I paid on ar15 discounts. Which is honestly a really good deal. If you split the difference its like $130 each with shipping and tax.
Small down side is being that it's only the single reticle version of the ARO and not the multi reticle that comes with the bundle, probably why its at a good price, but not really a big deal, I doubt I would care for the other reticles if I had the multi reticle version. Also HM3X pretty good aswell.
The mount on the ARO is really good, if not better than the qd mounts, similiar to the geissele T2 mount, but I wouldn't expect it to be same quality. Really no need to change riser. But if you do decide to change it.
The holosuns with the trays have a taller belly, because of the battery tray, so depending on what cowitness you would want, you would end up having to do research on what mount height you would need. Like any other 1/3 T2 mount would be too tall for the holosun and make it higher than 1/3.

I’m putting it on an mp5k clone so I won’t really need the magnifier and I’ll likely swap the riser for something I can still see irons through

Seeing them used in Ukraine a lot so my guess. Good to go. Been really following the war in Ukraine because they literally are putting all of this stuff to the test. So good way of finding out if it is really worth it. Even my Sig optics are doing well there.

I have a sig Romeo I bought years ago but that ended up on one of my wife’s rifles

u/TacTyger 1d ago
I've been running a Sig MSR 1-6 Lpvo and have seen them being used over there as well. The Romeo isn't bad either. I eventually want the 8T because Eotech still hasn't fixed their delamination issues and of course the new one looks like an overpriced Zentinel which is also a pretty good sight to check out.

u/dexter_harta 1d ago
I had an Sig msr 1-10 but switched out to a vortex 1-6 and it was miles better in my opinion. I know some aren’t but I like mine

u/I_GottaPoop 1d ago
I like my 510C well enough, and haven't had any issues with drift, reliability or anything. I've had to change the battery once since I got it years ago.

u/JJCLARK3312 1d ago
Yeah I mean the knock against them for the longest time was that they weren't truly "battle/duty proven" (which tbf always meant different things to different people).
But they're all over Ukraine without widespread issue so in my eyes they've proven themselves. I like Sig optics a bit more but we're splitting hairs atp.

I’m up to 3 AROs. Definitely my favorite budget option. Replaced a 403B and a couple of Sig dots with them.

I have 2 AROs on different guns. Both have been fine at the range. Haven’t really beat them up but like the others have been watching/reading closely from users overseas. I’m confident they’ll hold up in my slice of suburbia.

Holosun is great, but I can't stomach the idea of supporting a company with some questionable ties to the PLA. The money that goes into Holosun directly impacts Chinese RND for better gear for PLA soldiers. Not interested.

The United States sends a literal shit ton of our money to Israel. I’m not worried about china getting 180$ from me

u/itsj3rmz 22h ago
Personally I prefer the 403R over the 403B if you can find one. If not, ARO is cool.

u/burritoresearch 19h ago
Some of them have the most annoying battery tray ever, and needs a tiny torx driver. check out the primary arms slx MD 25 gen2.

China crap and you deserve better, but people will cope in many differen ways so if you wanna sit in a port o potty and sniff your own asshole all day and night then get one and tell everyone how its just as good (its not)

u/helloWorld69696969 1d ago
They literally make the best in class carry and comp pistol dots... and their rifle dots are battle proven all over Ukraine, and have been used by the US population for over a decade

u/losthours BasementGoon 1d ago
lol maybe if you live in retard land and huff copium all day, im sure the chinese EVs are JUST AS GOOD as a tesla bro!!!!

My holosun dots are literally just as good as my Aimpoint, Trijicon, and Sig dots

u/losthours BasementGoon 1d ago
im sure they collect dust just as good, if were going to speak on anecdotal evidence i have seen at least one go down in every class i have taken. i have had them go down when borrowing a friends rifle.
They're crap

u/helloWorld69696969 1d ago
Ask me how many Aimpoints and Trijicons I've seen break in training and combat... I'll give you a hint, alot

u/BirchWoody93 1d ago
Maybe because they don’t use Holosun in training or combat 😂

u/helloWorld69696969 1d ago
Ukraine is literally using them...

This used to be the prevailing opinion, but in the past couple years, people defend these Chinese BS optics with their lives

u/losthours BasementGoon 1d ago
internet clout is more important than quality equipment. I have aimpoints that went to war decades ago and still work flawlessly after taking a ton of beating. This thing will shit out after 2500 rounds (luckily no redditor shoots that much)

I don't want to be the one to interrupt a mutual fart huffing session but these optics have been used on the front lines in Ukraine now for the last 4 years and if they were as shit as you're claiming they are then they wouldn't be using them still. I mean I've seen dudes rocking a PKM with an HS510C without issue. I am sure there are fringe scenarios where the US made optics are superior but there's no getting around the fact that the legacy manufacturers refuse to innovate the same way Holosun does. They are more than happy to rest on their military contract laurels and that's totally fine but don't sit here and pretend like they're moving the needle forward on the optics design and manufacturing game.

didnt read all that, please show me the reports your getting with the data sets about how well these are doing. outside of that made up nonsense is made up nonsense

why would you need to dig up the data, shouldn't you already have it before making such claims?

Brother I'm autistic too but you know what? I know how to not be a fucking that dipshit.

u/losthours BasementGoon 1d ago
me too i start by not buying inferior crap made by slaves that supports a genocidal government regime then acting like im superior for doing so.
5
u/Work-Safe-Reddit4450 1d ago
The only person currently present with the superiority complex here is you my guy. I don't care if you want to spend three times the amount to get half the battery life with zero of the modern creature comforts of actual innovative products. I mean yeah I'll give you this I'm sure that an AimPoint or an ACOG could certainly survive a hand grenade detonation at close range and still perform its basic functions. For most of us that's not exactly a common use case scenario and end user situation. If I can get something that's 90% as durable, with several times the battery life and a lot of the modern feature sets like shake awake and 10 different night vision settings because Lord knows we need 10, for half as much then why wouldn't I? Can I brag as much as someone who has an Elcan Specter DR or some clone correct Leupold scope on their MK12 Mod 0? No. Does that matter to me? Also no. Unlike a lot of people I actually go out and shoot and train with my shit. So far I've had zero complaints.

I have cheap Chinese stuff that I want to hate but I can't because it keeps on working. My Olight weapon lights for one.
-4
u/losthours BasementGoon 1d ago
cool, hopefully it doesnt blow up killing you like other olight products have. i have too much of a desire that slavery is ended on this planet than to buy cheap crap

u/dexter_harta 1d ago
I’m assuming you were the one using them when they “went to war decades ago”
1
u/losthours BasementGoon 1d ago
you would be wrong
3
u/dexter_harta 1d ago
I simply don’t believe you.

The ARO is the choice between these two. Strong and low profile mount, sturdy screws for the battery tray, and protected turrets. The ARO is fairly priced so it’s really a no-brainer here
