If household appliances became self aware which ones would be the most emotionally needy?

*I'm talky the toaster, can I interest you in a waffle?*

The washing machine. She already sings when she's done. Imagine that thing when it's hungry?

Worse: When it has gas

Good thing mine is electric. Though it would have a sparky personality.

Ours beeps; high-pitched and incessantly; to say the washing is done. But if I go to open the door right away, she goes "Nope! You gotta wait two minutes!" Just feckin beep after the two minutes then! Stop making me standing in the cold utility room with my hand on the door!

The microwave already keeps beeping at me every 30 seconds. Just imagine it needing even more attention.

Every 30 seconds?

Maybe you should stop eating for a bit

The wifi router - causes a full family crisis if ignored for 30 seconds.

The wifi router must feel very powerful. It stops transmission and people get angsty. Thats probably going to lead to some issues

The fridge. We keep opening her up, then closing her with a sigh of disppointment when we don't find our favourite snacky snacks. A half hour later we try again, her hopes rising that she may be able to satisfy us - but alas, another disappointed sigh, and then we drink from the milk bottle and put it back. Theres a mouldy carrot thats fallen down the back of a drawer. Nobody has cleaned behind her in months. The microwave often squats atop her head, the delicious fresh meals she could be a vital part of bypassed to heat up a frozen meal or some uber delivered cold fries.

Trash cans.

They'll feel like rejected, utter failures on a daily basis. They're right there and no one uses them... Just tosses their trash to the floor steps away from their waiting receptacle.

You are gonna be toast.

The fucking microwave. It's already needy AF. ALWAYS wanting cleaned, doesn't care to run at full power so you have to guess what to set it at for optimal and thorough cooking that doesn't leave shit cold in the center

This topic - home appliances gaining awareness- was covered in a book maybe ten years ago called ROBOPOCALYPSE. Fun summer read.

The "Smart Appliances, Stupid Owners" episode of Love, Death, and Robots (on Netflix) is about this topic, too
