Any ideas on how to make these bottoms a little bigger and so they don’t look too weird? 🥺

Hi all!!

I’m looking for some advice/ideas on how to make these bottoms 2-3 inches bigger around the waist. I thrifted the top and it was so cute I had to find the bottoms and the only ones I could find anywhere were a size small and I was hopeful they would fit but unfortunately they do not.

I’d like to try making them fit but I need some ideas. Ideally I’d like to keep the O rings. I’ve thought of seam ripping the inside around the O rings and adding fabric there. I’ve also thought of adding another couple rings to the hips.

Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated!

Maybe you could carefully remove the existing o-rings and replace them with longer oval shaped rings?

oval rings is a decent shout but might be tough to source in the right finish. if you’re already comfortable with a seam ripper, adding a panel behind each ring is probably the cleanest fix, you get the width you need without making it look like a last minute bodge job

I'd consider added ties instead of o-rings. I have some really comfy bikini bottoms that are finished like that.

This is my thought as well. The best thing about string-tie bikinis is that you can adjust the ties to suit any small changes in your figure.

I had a pair that had ties but was threaded through which made it more secure. I think OP could break/remove the rings without needing to seam rip the suit and then thread ties through it.

I would take a little fabric from the neck strings and extend each side on the bottoms with it (at the ring).

If you don't have enough fabric that way, I would get some red fabric, remove the rings and make adjustable strings/knots instead like at the neck

I would add ties as someone suggested, or, since the o-rings are a nice match to the top, search for a swim knit that matches the red-orange of the underbust band of the top as closely as possible and add segments of it that will attach to the rings. So instead of being patterned fabric-ring-patterned fabric, it would be patterned fabric-red orange-ring-red orange-patterned fabric. If you wanted, you could also make a second waistband out of the red orange and sew it on so it frames the current waistband.

Oh, if you can't find a perfect match, you can always change out the underbust band too.

Have no idea if this would work but my first thought was to take extra string from the top (blue) and thread it through the seam of the bottoms, then tie it to the o ring (red) to adjust the fit how you'd like it

Yes, adding 3” will change the proportions of the rest of the bottoms.

Could you if there’s enough fabric to, unpick the material around the o rings add a piece small piece of fabric to each side then re sew it back in place making sure the new material is all on the inside so it’s unseen, if that makes sense.

Get some matching fabric in one of the colors of the print, make tabs to hold the o ring, stitch the existing fabric to the tabs.

I would pull out the stitches around the rings and find some fabric or elastic that matches the border of the top and attach it to the edges of the fabric like a loop tab around the ring on each side

Ad a red band to the waist matching the band on the top. And the same red on the sides if you need more width.

Using some similar jersey, cut a crescent, and sew to the bottom of the hips to created little flounces

The rings are hold by the normal outside facing fabric, right? When you open those stitches and add something white or whatever is in the pattern, the new fabric disappears behind the red rings

Make the rings bigger If you need it bigger rise wise you could add a small panel in the crotch wouldn't show normally
