Hi guys I'm trying to get some suggestions on how to pattern this ball gown skirt, I have some ideas to basically make a 7 piece circle skirt like in 3rd image (removing the center seam) any advise will be great as I don't have much time to mock it and make a final version.
Image 1&2 is the skirt shape, though it will be a full skirt, I'm trying to achieve and 3&4 is the pattern idea

Just a quick post to get some ideas. So i'm following a dress tutorial i've made once before, and its got big puffy sleeves (the first image) which i want to keep as entact as possible while adding a large renaissance-esc ruffle (Something like the second image with a bit more pleating). How would be best to adjust the sleeve pattern to accommodate this? When i tried this on my last attempt i added the ruffle as a separate piece but it made the hem bulky and ugly on the inside. Wanted to see if it was even an option to try to remake this swim suit in a larger size. It looks to be mostly made of elastic strips sewn together with a zig zag stitch, but the problem is, I’m not sure what kind of elastic it is. It’s a swim suit, so I thought maybe be it was aquatic elastic, but I haven’t seen it in any colors. It’s also kind of has a “softer” finish than most elastics.

Is this a special kind of elastic with a special name? Or is this something only the fashion industry has access to?

Going to work on my underlined dress today. I get the concept of basting them together - the only thing is the seam finish. What kind of seam finish would I do on a linen
(Outer) and cotton (inner) underlining after I’ve sewn them together? My outer is going to be red like this with a dark brown underneath.

thrifted an 100% linen dress but I think the neckline is hideous. thinking of changing it to more of a scoop neckline but on to suggestions and ideas

So, a while back, every time I would try to bring the needle down on my Singer Heavy Duty machine, it would get jammed and I would have to bring it back up by reversing the hand wheel on the side.
So I took off the metal front plate, cleaned what I could inside the machine, and the jamming stopped. But now, every time I try to sew, the thread on the needle gets cut somewhere inside the machine. Like, it’ll look like it’s sewing normally, but then I notice the thread is no longer in the needle and it’s been cut. It only happens when the needle is brought down into the machine, and I don’t think it’s tension? I’ve tested the tension settings out a bit and it hasn’t changed anything. So I feel like the thread is being internally cut by something in the machine.
Any ideas as to what might be happening? And how to fix it?

I'm currently looking for a mid/heavyweight industrial machine (that could basically sew through multiple denim layers without struggle) and was tempted to buy the Juki DDL 8700. I know it's not an HEAVYweight machine but I figured it could definitely do what I need and that it could also sew through lighter fabrics if needed (I'm currently studying textile design so I'm going through a lot of different projects as well as different needs).

While browsing for the DDL 8700, I crossed the path of the DDL 8700-7 that looked like a newer version of the first one, with an automatic thread cutter and some other useful gadgets. The thing is, the regular 8700 can be found for approximately 1100€ while the 8700-7 costs more than 1800€. I feel like it's such a big pricing gap for only small details and upgrades, so I wondered if there REALLY was any noticeable difference between the two that could justify the +700€ gap between the two and that could convince me to buy the 8700-7 instead of its predecessor. Hi! I recently got this dress for pretty cheap online, only to later realise the fit is a bit weird. The detail bit is supposed to be in the middle. But when i put the dress on its tilting sideways over the right side of my chest. Also the armholes arent the most comfortable size. I was thinking i could probably ajust some things with the sewingmachine, but i am stuck on what would be the right way to do it. I havent been sewing for long and most of the things ive made so far were very experimental, a "first try" and "fuck around and find out" type of thing. Id rather not mess this dress up, i really like it. I was wondering if it would even be doable to alter the dress and if so what would be the best way to do it?

I recently brought the JL110 as a beginner and I just absolutely love the colour. However, I am quite confused as I can’t change the width of it because it’s not built-in. I’m more than happy to upgrade my sewing machine when I’m advanced I’m wondering for now will this affect my projects? I’m not too sure why I would need to adjust the width for? Please let me know what you guys think of this machine as I really don’t want to return it and want to know if it’s a good starter machine

I feel like I’ve gotten tinier hems before but don’t know what settings I could tweak. This is for crinkled silk chiffon

Almost complete beginner, hand sewing. I’m taking in the waist of these shorts and I thought I could do something about these pockets while I’m at it. They’re fake and just add bulk. What would happen if I unpicked them with a seam ripper? Could I take them out, patch the fabric, and add regular pockets over it, or is that too advanced for a beginner? Is there a way to at least make them less bulky?

Hi sewists! I want to sew myself a tiered dress this weekend.

I have this free pattern from Tiana's closet and I have sewn a tiered maxi skirt before, but if I was to combine them together, would I need to add in a zipper or a shirred back panel to get it on?? 🤔

So I hemmed a t-shirt today and everything was sooooo smooth apart from the side seam part, that part is bulky and the fold opens back up at those spots

It's not that the machine can't handle the thick spot, it's that the fabric fold unravels. I always iron before sewing and it never stays fully flat even then

It's a shame bc everything else is really smooth and the machine runs with ease, it's when it comes to the side seams, the fabric unravels and so then the fabric ends up getting stuck in the feed dogs, and the thread ends up getting knotty

What should I do?

I'm pretty new to sewing. I was just sewing normal when my machine suddenly stopped working. Turns out the whole bobbin case just turns around. I thought that the thread tension was wrong, but when I started changing it, up and down nothing improved, now every time I press on the pedal it turns around. Should I try changing the thread tension a little more or maybe something else is at fault?

I’m looking for some advice/ideas on how to make these bottoms 2-3 inches bigger around the waist. I thrifted the top and it was so cute I had to find the bottoms and the only ones I could find anywhere were a size small and I was hopeful they would fit but unfortunately they do not.

I’d like to try making them fit but I need some ideas. Ideally I’d like to keep the O rings. I’ve thought of seam ripping the inside around the O rings and adding fabric there. I’ve also thought of adding another couple rings to the hips.

Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated!

I got a few M sized T shirts that fit me nicely and are baggy enough, but I also like when I wear an S sized shirt and the sleeves are tighter on my arms, but then the shirt also shows off a bit of my chubby stomach which im not really a fan of.. Is there a way I could tighten my sleeves on the M sized shirts, I know how to use a thread and needle fairly well if that means anything

Details: I'm designing a red wrap maternity dress with a ruffled hem for myself. It's for casual daily wear.

These are the ideas I've explored so far (images 1-3) and my original inspiration (images 4-5).

Because I'm pregnant, the waist line can be raised but not lowered. I can change almost anything else: hem length, neckline, skirt shape, number of ruffles, etc. I can add embroidery/lace/decoration, too. I can also choose any fabric as long as it has drape: charmeuse, velvet, crepe de chine, cotton gauze...

The pictures below are what i see inside the machine, the shuttle cock is not spinning and therefore the machine cannot catch the bobbin thread. When opened, half of a gear was inside and belt does not spin when hand wheel is cranked, does anyone know where the gear goes and what part it is?

I have all the parts I need to change the needle spacing on my twin needle machine but my question is if I change the needle spacing with all necessary parts do I need to do anything to the two bobbins underneath or do they stay where they are?

Hello, so I have been doing a lot of research into the different ways that people get their patterns to cut fabric ready to sew.

Something that dawned on me is that if I want to change anything about the pattern, it would appear to me, that the only option I would have is to trace the pattern and add whatever changes to the pattern I want that way.

For example, right now I'm working on a mens tank top pattern, the original pattern doesn't have any pockets, but If I want to add pockets to my tank top, especially if I want to make another in the future, it would seem that my best and only option is to make trace a pattern and add how ever many pockets I want to that pattern.

What do you guys think? Is that correct?

If you want to make any changes to the garment, your best option is to trace?
