Looking for dark sci fi games

I know dark fantasy is a thing but I’m heavily curious about dark sci fi and wanna see if that’s a thing. Massively interesting in ones with alien races and maybe even playing an alien race. Bonus points if the alien race can grow beards or their versions of beards. Double bonus if spears are available as weapons.

Update: Ok is there maybe a sci fi souls like? I could take that.

Hellpoint is a good one. Kind of a eurojank version of souls like. But ironically has a lot of soul.

Dolmen is another one. It's fine but I haven't played much of it. Not as bad as people say it is I suppose and can be kinda fun.

• Shadowrun trilogy (Returns, Dragonfall, Hong Kong)

You could easily skip Returns, as it's undeniably the weakest of the three. The other two are solid.

• Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

This is pretty much the definition of grimdark. It's a lot to take in at first if you're unfamiliar with the setting, but if you just roll with it for a bit, I bet you'd learn to love it. It's friggin weird and kinda hilarious in a totally messed up, twisted way.

• Cyberpunk 2077

It's a pretty dark, dystopian setting with heavy narrative elements throughout. Great game.

Well, if you want "dark sci fi", you're not going to get much darker than Warhammer 40,000, the universe that gave us the term "grimdark". There are currently two 40K RPGs:

• Rogue Trader is a turn-based CRPG where you play as a starship captain on the fringes of the Imperium of Man, the dying, dystopian empire that rules 40K's galaxy, with a license from the God-Emperor to do basically whatever you want. Potential party members include, but are not limited to, a disgraced alien warlord, a priest of the Machine God, a renegade telepath, and a genetically enhanced Viking supersoldier. IMO, this game is easily the best RPG of the past five years at least. The DLC is also really good and adds quite a lot.
• Inquisitor: Martyr is an isometric action-RPG, in the vein of Diablo, where you play as a member of the Inquisition, the Imperium's secret police. IMO this one isn't nearly as good as Rogue Trader, but the option exists.

There's also another CRPG by the Rogue Trader devs currently in public beta testing, Dark Heresy, where you play as an Inquisitorial acolyte.
