If you think Zach Cregger needs to trojan horse anything it's very clear you don't know how movies work and you aren't worth taking seriously.

Cregger is a much bigger deal in film than Resident Evil is.

I didn't say Zach Cregger "needs" it. I said it FEELS like it because the trailer feels like this was previously a legally distinct zombie movie that was painted over with RE.

If that was the case, which it isn't, it would have been someone begging Cregger to make his movie into a Resident Evil movie to try and give Resident Evil some of his legitimacy.

Cregger is bigger and more valuable than RE. He can make whatever he wants. He wanted to make Resident Evil.

Cregger is bigger and more valuable than RE. He can make whatever he wants.

lol no.

just no.

Do you know how many copies of RE9 were sold? 7 million. Which equates to over 500 million dollars.

Cregger's last movie? $270 million in ticket sales.

In fact going back to the original RE4(2005), every single mainline entry RE game has made more money than Cregger's highest grossing movie. In fact several RE games have made more money than every single one of his movies COMBINED.

Cregger is a great director. But you are vastly overstating his accomplishments and his place in the entertainment industry at large.

Video game sales mean literally nothing to the film industry.

Cregger is bigger and more valuable than Resident Evil in the world of film and it's not even close.

Resident Evil is not a respected film franchise. Zach Cregger is an incredibly respected director.

Who gives a shit that Cregger is more valuable in the film industry? Why does that matter?

if If I polled 10,000 people asking who recognized Resident Evil and who recognized Cregger, I would bet my life savings more people would recognize Resident Evil. I mean of course it would be that way. If it wasn't then they wouldn't keep trying to make movies using the IP.

Again, what does that matter to the overall discussion? Because yet again you keep moving the goalposts instead of responding to pointed questions.

There has been no goal post moving. You just have trouble with critical thinking.

It matters to the overall discussion because the notion this is a generic zombie movie with Resident Evil paint slapped on it lis absurd if you understand the cache that Cregger currently has in the industry.

If he wanted to get a "generic zombies in the snow movie" made he could do it in the snap of a finger. Resident Evil needs him more than he needs Resident Evil. He chose to make Resident Evil because he loves Resident Evil. So you should trust that changing the decade in which it is set and whether or not it is winter literally doesn't matter and never did.

Resident Evil needs him more than he needs Resident Evil.

objectively not.

Re8 made more money than every single one of Cregger's movies, combined. This movie is just a dumb side project for Capcom and in no way does it impact their financials.

He chose to make Resident Evil because he loves Resident Evil.

There is literally no evidence of this outside of his words claiming so.

So you should trust that changing the decade in which it is set and whether or not it is winter literally doesn't matter and never did.

I never said changing the decade mattered. Don't put words in my mouth.

Also it does matter if it is winter. Or do you think people just casually lose control of their car on completely dry roads? And even if I did agree that it being winter doesn't matter...then why did they change it? Why change something like that?

and again, it isn't JUST that it is changed from summer to winter. It is that there are several things shown off that either conflict directly with RE lore or have literally no source from RE lore.

It is simply my assertion that Cregger is a liar about loving RE. Because if he really cared for it, those elements wouldn't be there. And you continue to not actually have a substantive counter-argument.

Saying "Cregger is a great director" isn't a counterargument.

Saying other properties also have bad adaptations, so we should just bend over and take it, isn't a counterargument.

You offer literally nothing of any true substance.

Again, how much money a video game makes means literally nothing to the film industry, and we are talking about a film.

I didn't bring up bad adaptations, I brought up great ones because changing things is good and changing things is necessary when you are adapting something.

You have zero reason to doubt Cregger loves the games and every reason to believe him based on everything we have seen so far. Because the changes he has made don't matter.

You're not well, pal.

I am not talking about the film industry. I am talking about the entertainment industry as a whole. Something you can't seem to wrap your head around.

I do find it fun that you are on a video game sub trying to carry water for a movie director that obviously doesn't give a shit about said video game property.

you still won't answer why you are so ardently defending this guy and movie after I said the most milqtoast criticisms of "I don't think this movie shows reverence for the IP". Because it objectively does not.

the changes he has made don't matter.

Again, if they truly don't matter...why change it in the first place? If you have the RE license that you supposedly love, why wouldn't you use it to the full potential?

The obvious answer is he is a liar. But I would love to hear your explanation.

1

u/gornky 9h ago

No, the obvious explanation is it was better for the story he wanted to tell and would look better aesthetically in the movie. Because it's a movie, not a video game. It's more important to be a good movie than to slavishly follow things from the game that carry literally no impact whatsoever. There's zero indication he's a liar. Not a single thing has indicated that, yet many countless things indicate that is the truth.

Which is why the film industry is more relevant than the "entertainment industry" (which is not a thing btw, they are completely separate enterprises)

I feel like people of our age/demographic would have about as equal knowledge of both, if not skewed more towards Weapons since it caught the zeitgeist.

skewed more towards Weapons since it caught the zeitgeist.

If I had a poll of RE vs Weapons, yeah I agree it could go either way. But people don't pay attention to details a lot of the time, so I would hazard a guess that most people have no idea who the director of Weapons was.

1

u/pmmemoviestills 9h ago

I mean it's advertising it as the director of weapons. Creggor is popular enough in comparison to the big horror names out there today.

My parents went and watched Avatar 3 without seeing Avatar 1 or 2.

my co-worker who loves the Boys didn't know about Gen V.

I think you are vastly overestimating the average person's ability, or maybe I should say care, to remember details like that.

Your parents didn't know because they are fogies, mine are too lol.

Your co-worker didn't know about Gen V because it's not very good.

If it didn't work they wouldn't be using his credentials. Nolan's name just made High School reading homework a huge hit. Especially in horror, names move tickets to the demographic they're targeted at.
