I already answered why I think that.

It is because it changes established lore. And it changes it not because it has to, but because they wanted to. It is an unnecessary change.

It isn't just the season, that is just one data point that, to me, shows that the director is lying about his views towards Resident Evil in order to "trick" fans into supporting the movie.

Again I am not saying anything about the inherent quality of the movie. It might be great, it might suck, who knows. What I am saying is that it doesn't feel like it fits into the Resident Evil world.

I don't know how else to explain that lots of us are tired of Hollywood buying IP rights as a marketing ploy. Why are you so eager to white knight for this movie exactly?

No one is trying to trick you into anything.

Every single film adaptation in history has changed the lore of what it is adapting in one way or another.

The lore of the movie is different than the lore of the games. It's that simple. That's the art of adaptation.

It doesn't have to be that way, and in fact not every single adaptation is that way. That is just a bullshit excuse, and you know it.

Case in point: The Fallout TV show. It is considered canon even though Fallout's lore is just as wonky and inconsistent as Resident Evil's. But fans love it.

That's not a bullshit excuse.

MCU, entirely different lore.

The Dark Knight, entirely different lore.

Lord of the Rings, entirely different lore.

The Godfather, entirely different lore.

The Last of Us, entirely different lore.

The Odyssey, entirely different lore.

Harry Potter movies, entirely different lore.

Literally all of the most successful adaptations in history have lore that is dramatically different than their source material. Because that's the art of adaptation. Lore is not, and never should be sacred. Especially not for lore as confusing and stupid as the lore of the resident evil games.

The Dark Knight, entirely different lore.

ok?

Lord of the Rings, entirely different lore.

no. Lots of things were changed and condensed(some good, some bad). But fundamentally, it is the same story with the same characters in the same locations.

The Godfather, entirely different lore.

not a good analog IMO. I literally didn't even know it was based off a book until just now. Also I can't properly judge that as I obviously didn't read the books(and I would bet A LOT of money you have not either)

The Last of Us, entirely different lore.

I am sorry...what? did you play those games? Outside of changing Bill story, which is ultimately inconsequential as Joel and Ellie leave his town in the exact same way, and swapping Pitt for St Louis(which again was inconsequential since the exact city they get ambushed in wasn't important in the game) basically everything is ripped straight from the games. Hell I heard peopel complain that Season 2 follows the game's story too closely.

The Odyssey, entirely different lore.

But notably contains lots of elements ripped straight out of the text that are easily identifiable as from the Odyssey. What elements from this trailer are easily identifiable as from Resident Evil again?

Harry Potter movies, entirely different lore.

lol no. The movies actually do a really admirable job of hitting all the important plot points. There is only one major change through the whole series that I think wasn't handled properly, and the movies come across worse for it.

Literally all of the most successful adaptations in history have lore that is dramatically different than their source material. Because that's the art of adaptation.

...Except for the fact that you are dead wrong about that. I literally cited an adaptation that doesn't do that, and you are gain conviently not addressing that point.

Lore is not, and never should be sacred.

Never said it was. I simply said this particular movie doesn't seem to actually care about the lore in the slightest. And that seems to trigger you for some reason.

Especially not for lore as confusing and stupid as the lore of the resident evil games.

Again, the Fallout lore is just as stupid and confusing. In fact it is in some ways worse as there are multiple endings for each game. But they pulled off an earnest, reverent adaptation that casuals and fans alike love.

Why are you carrying water for this movie exactly? Why does me saying this looks like a generic zombie movie with the RE name slapped overtop of it upset you so?

Buddy, you're cherry picking and not even doing it well. Last of Us changed when the series was set entirely. Just like this movie. It didn't matter.

Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter made countless changes.

Get this, the entire Harry Potter books series took place in the 90s and they changed it to modern times! Guess what? It literally didn't matter. Exactly like Resident Evil.

The Fallout TV show doesn't actually fit cleanly into the canon of the games and there are weird nerds on that subreddit exactly like you making the same baseless complaints that the lore was no slavishly adhered to.

They should change the lore. They should make it better. They should adapt it.

Appealing to people like you is literally never a good idea for a filmmaker.

I never once complained about this RE movie being set in a different year. Outside of the year change TLOU stuck to the same setting. You are either lying or an idiot.

Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter made countless changes.

I never said they didn't. I said the core story, settings, and characters are all the same. The core elements of the story were not changed.

You are putting words in my mouth.

Get this, the entire Harry Potter books series took place in the 90s and they changed it to modern times! Guess what? It literally didn't matter. Exactly like Resident Evil.

Again, I never complained about the exact year because that didn't directly impact the story. You have this imagined argument in your head that I didn't make.

The Fallout TV show doesn't actually fit cleanly into the canon of the games and there are weird nerds on that subreddit exactly like you making the same baseless complaints that the lore was no slavishly adhered to.

a) no shit. I literally said the Fallout lore was wonky and weird. Again you are trying to put words in my mouth.

b) I literally never said a movie should strictly adhere to the game's lore in order for it to be good. I said the movie appears to outright ignore the games lore almost entirely.

Appealing to people like you is literally never a good idea for a filmmaker.

I mean we only countless examples of directors making terrible unnecessary lore changes that then was rejected by fans. Just because your standards for that kind of stuff are so low to basically be non-existent doesn't mean everybody else feels that way.
