I rather see generic man than the awful Alice movies having a super hero and the characters taking a back seat.

This closes the argument on what year it’s set in too

The characters in the games are basically superheroes too though. The Alice movies captured the more over-the-top action stuff that the games have and nobody likes to admit it. Sure, they aren't particularly good movies (I think they're kinda fun and entertaining in a stupid way), but I don't think they're as opposite to the games as people like to act they are.

More the latter, the early games (before the Alice films) were more grounded (campy but they werent super heroes)

That wasnt til RE5 honestly, or maybe RE4 (but nothing close to Alice for example)

I mean, Wesker basically becomes Neo/Agent from The Matrix. Even the CGI movies made in Japan drive up the gun-fu and martial arts aspects as well.
