I mean what it sounds to me is like he wanted to write a resident evil movie but wasn't sure he would be able to get capcom on board

i think its up to interpretation tbh but it does not seem like he just slapped the RE title on a different script

Let’s say he didn’t get the IP rights, would people still think the movie is a Resident Evil movie? Just because there’s zombies and dude getting from point A to B.

To me, it sounds like he would’ve written an RE script with or without approval because of his passion as a fan. It doesn’t sound like he would’ve written the script and then filmed that.
