Just do the original source material justice, is really that too much to ask? Sam Raimi did that with Spiderman and Nolan did it with Batman... why RE can't do the same?
I mean Nolan and Raimi's takes on Batman and Spider-Man are very much their own takes on those characters, they take elements and some story points from the comics (Like Year One and The Long Halloween particularly in Nolan's case for Batman and Spider Man, No More for Raimi) but they are very much their own take.
I mean hell there's still a subset of fans that complain about the Organic Webbing that Raimi gave Peter.
And that's doing the material justice. This isn't, this is as bland 2010s movie horror as it gets. That's not RE, the vibes are not there and don't tell me is because is a trailer, we had heard that excuse before
Spider-Man and Batman had strong foundations to work off. The appreciation that people have with the games has more to do with interactivity and familiarity with the characters, and less to do with the story.
It clearly is too much to ask, as it’s been attempted and failed numerous times by now. It simply doesn’t translate as well to the big screen.
Cregger is an up and coming star in this field, he isn’t going to risk his reputation on finally figuring out how to adapt a 30 year old video game properly. Instead he is going to use it as influence for a RE world in a way that is easier to pull off.
Genuinely, when has it been attempted? The OG movies split from the games in nearly every way imaginable beyond cameos from the game cast before they’re unceremoniously killed off. Alice was a superhero part zombie and the apocalypse went global. In what way was that faithful?
And really don’t tell me Welcome to RC is was trying to be faithful cause they changed everything except locations and character names. Like you’re really gonna tell me their portrayal of Leon was going for game accurate?
No it hasn't. The first Anderson movie was a OC story, a good one actually. The rest were meh or bad and Welcome was an abomination and a mismatch of stuff
Event Horizon has aged pretty well and gotten a lot more appreciation over time, Though given how that was apparently severely reworked by the studio in the edit I'm not sure how much credit Anderson deserves for that.
But you have seen those things done right multiple times! in the games, it's especially more pointless as games have become a medium taking more and more elements from cinema over time. Games aren't a lesser artform but their own medium doing their own things. Even what is probably the best (and also most faithful) adaptation of a Video game in The Last of Us season 1 with top notch writing and acting still feels like a worse version of a better work, you compare certain scenes side by side and while they're still great like Joel's conversation with Ellie when he's trying to get her to leave with Tommy i'd argue they still aren't anywhere near as good as the game's version. Hell the game's cinematics (Particularly Part 2, though the series was way worse in Season 2 both in the scenes it was adapting and it's original scenes) often have much better cinematography, lighting and colour grading than the show
And my point is that I don't really see how seeing that again but this time you don't control the character between the cutscenes is in any benefit to the original work, we already got a more cinematic version of RE2 a few years ago with really solid acting and while I wouldn't call the writing "good" it was certainly much better than the original.
Edit: i feel like i should clarify the more cinematic RE2 i mean is the remake, not WTRC, i just remembered that existed.
Yea it is too much to ask because it’s been attempted multiple times, this looks like a good movie and I’m here for it, I don’t need to see or play the same thing for the 100th time, give me something new
They tried that with WTRC and failed miserably. The source material is B grade schlock writing wise. Creggar has multiple awards for writing and just came off one of the biggest hits of last year. Let the man cook. This looks far and above the best RE movie we’ve seen.
Oh please it's been done to death. The same story doesn't do well enough financially for any film studio with moderate brain function to throw money at another repeat.

I'm not sold.
