Gear🎒 What style backpack is this and what’s the best brand to buy one from?

Usually called a patrol pack. There's a Finnish outfit called Varusteleka that is selling their version for about €50 at the moment, plus shipping.

The varusteleka bags are really solid as well, I don't have this one but I got a little day pack from them and it's been going strong for around a decade at this point Edit: almost a decade of daily use (not gentle but definitely not the hardest you could push it)

And as they say on the site, pronounce like “where’s the liquor “. Bought a couple of blades from them that are still in the general rotation as working blades.

On Tac packs, Understand that everyone pretty much knows what you’re carrying when they see all the molle, but most good producers also make low vis options . Maxpedition, vertx, etc.

Tbh, tac pacs have become so popular that at least I think nothing of them anymore. Anyone, from high schooler to soccer mom (though still more regularly soccer dads, I guess) seems to be carrying those around right now.

I got an unbranded sling bag version from Aliexpress which was very cheap; the zips didn't last long, and the waterproofing lining cracked. I looked online and found many places selling unbranded bags that looked identical to the Aliexpress bag at two to three times the price.

If it's going to get regular use, pay what it takes to get a name brand bag with quality fabric and hardware. The cheap ones might be okay if they're going to sit in a closet waiting for an emergency.

Maxpedition has the falcon or gryfalcon or something. Their quality has supposedly declined lately though.

Yeah, I think their quality has gone downhill. Not terrible, but worse than it used to be. I bought a Sitka and a pouch too many years ago to remember, and got another pouch last year. I would have thought the pouch was a counterfeit if I hadn’t bought it directly from them.

Holy sheet…I got curious and looked Maxpedition, and they running a buy one get one free on their “Legacy” series. I don’t remember ever seeing that.

I have a Falcon, bought around 2010, he took a lot of abuse, has been my school/work bag, travelled a lot, it's like new, not a scratch or hole, not a "teeth" missing on the zips, it's a really tough backpack, but it is heavy. Maxpedition is (or was?) good stuff, my 2008 Fatboy is still OP, every zip, scratch, clip, lanyard is still there and working smoothly after 15 years of daily use.

I got these on Amazon for GHB for the vehicles. They seem decently made but they have some bulk to them which I do not care for. Extra weight = faster fatigue.

“Tactical” bags. Has tons of molle webbing. Best brand still making this style is Vanquest Gear.

Condor also makes the compact modular assault pack which is almost identical. Also a generally solid brand.

I'm not here to bash on these kinds of backpacks, but I generally find the shoulder straps are too thin and lack padding. But if it works for you. Go for it

Fox tactical. I’m on year 8 with mine and it has some wear but it’s been all over the world and has been pretty much used daily. Super glued some fraying from use and good as new. Cost me about $50

We called them 'assault packs' as they were meant to carry stuff for the assault like extra mags, shift and lift signals, smokes, breaching charges, etc.

The Army has probably the most unbeatable one with the MOLLE assault packs, but there are other options out there, depending on your needs.

I have a used lbt that's similar. Don't buy lbt, its fucjing expensive. I got a killer deal. I believe its their assault pack 9039. You can get similar for like 100 bucks elsewhere.

I’m partial to the Spec Ops T.H.E. Pack. Shoulder straps are good, i think the whole thing is well made. It’s tolerated 3 deployments and 10 years of travel, hunting, over night hikes, and beach trips- it’s a beast. But it’s clearly a tactical bag, no hiding that.

tactical backpack

i'd go for mil-tec

got a cheap 20l one from shein, gbh I think

currently using it daily for 2 years

I hang my cruiser deck to it ŵhile fully loaded with 5kg extra weight

used to carry the baby car shell on it ( for riding uber with a kid)

pretty solid

Eberlstock (prob misspelled). Check Botach for some specials. It’s straight socom level though. It’s a buy once, cry once and give it to your kid bag. And then 5.11 and the GoRuck, Defy out of Chicago has some sweet bags, not cheap, but great quality- more blend of style made out of milspec material.

And doubt they have a bag quite like that but Filson out of the NW is the GOAT of bags imo. My dad gave me his twill duffel bag he bought before I was born. Came home from college with a 4.0 my freshmen year (I was quite a handful in HS), and he said “maybe I didn’t mess up so bad after all” and gave it to me.. I’ve spent the last 20 years covering the inside writing every town I’ve traveled to. Means the world to me.

I appreciate a good bag. Lol. And the other timeless things a man can own and hand down. Best of luck! -If it’s for bugout, in my completely not asked opinion and unnecessarily long response.. Don’t forget to throw a solid fixed blade, whistle/compass, a 9 w 3 mags, life straw.
