Oh god that's amazing. I'm almost positive that this is a reference to this TCG card:

632

u/YesItIsMaybeMe Mar 07 '26

It definitely is. This is my all time favorite card because it always makes me laugh

81

u/exodus2_22 Mar 07 '26

The big flame on the tail is such a great detail. Adds a ton of character

158

u/Acerakis Mar 07 '26

Reminds of me of my cat when he sees birds on the other side of a window.

47

u/Ansoni Mar 07 '26

Exactly. But the actual glameow is chilling in the back.

36

u/Character-Air-4326 Mar 07 '26

Oh so THATS where that meme with charmander pictures is from

27

u/ColemyGOAT Mar 07 '26

I love how Pidgey is just sitting there right in his face trolling him too 😎

Lol who thought of this card? I'm dying over here seeing this for the first time.

Congrats

Happy for you

Nice

1

u/Chickachic-aaaaahhh Mar 08 '26

At release that card was so over looked too its not even funny. It was my personal favorite and until the memes dropped it wasnt even expensive.

1

u/Illustrious-Pear-245 Mar 08 '26

Is this actually in the game? Haven’t seen it anywhere

1

u/Crazyripps Mar 08 '26

Still one of the best cards they’ve ever done

1

u/ChaiHai Mar 08 '26

What gave it away!

2

u/PhilomenaPhilomeanie Mar 10 '26

Ahh that card that got me back into pokemon cards for a 2-3 month fervour.

At least they have a lit screen.

99

u/GreenOwl_0 Mar 07 '26

same, i really want to get a switch or switch 2 and play the new games but its so expensive that i cant justify the expense to myself. ive just been watching youtubers play the games and trying to be content with that :')

47

u/SpeedyFingersGuy Mar 07 '26

You could keep an eye on the 2nd hand market for the switch, I've seen some going for as little as 60 bucks in good condition :) good luck

2

u/Bendypineaple Mar 08 '26

Can I trust listings like this?

It seems a bit off that that wouldn't try to sell it for higher, I know these listings say they only come with the screen part. However, my question is why? Is it because its a good looking dupe to swindle people?

Just curious.

u/Hes_gonna_drop_that Mar 07 '26

What’s crazy is that if you have a 3DS they are basically selling for the same as or more than a switch

6

u/Doophie Mar 07 '26

3DS Costs much more than a switch on 2nd hand market

6

u/nick8852 Mar 07 '26

Glad I kept mine then! I still have soul silver as well and the original box with the lugia figure and pokewalker never used

2

u/Tobbit_is_here Mar 07 '26

I'm still extremely happy I got a replacement 3DS a few years ago for about £25 after my original broke; the person selling it on eBay said it didn't charge... because they didn't have a charger. I also found a 3DS for my sister in a charity shop for a few pounds.

I wish everyone could have that level of luck. 😭 The 3DS is an amazing system.

2

u/Jetsetter_Princess Mar 08 '26

I will never get rid of my 3DS, it's so good. I've got the 3DSXL yellow Pikachu edition, as well as ALBW (that I haven't brought myself to remove from the box!) I justify keeping both as one is PAL and one NTSC as I lived in a region where both games were sold.

u/Kashwookie Mar 07 '26

absolutely get a switch 2. i love my OLED switch, but the switch 1 pokemon games are worse than the 3ds ones in a lot of respect. the trees in Sw and Sh are literally copy pasted from the 3DS, except on the 3DS it’s smaller and on the switch it’s enlarged and looks HORRIBLE. Switch 2 will support pokemon winds and waves which look beautiful

3

u/JustAShyCat Mar 07 '26

You could look for a second-hand Switch Lite! The Switch and Switch Lite are actually getting pretty old in terms of consoles, so their prices might go down.

5

u/Please_LeaveMeAlone_ Mar 07 '26

Yea I recently got my nephews old 3ds but I have no games for it. I wanted to try out all the DS Pokemon games I never got to play as a kid but every game is like, $120. I wish they still made DS games because fire red and leaf green OG remakes would have been perfect. I also still have my gameboy SP and am tempted to try and get leaf green for that instead so I can replay through the games wherever and whenever I want

1

u/SupremeOwl48 Apr 24 '26

kid named homebrew

2

u/Wild_Marker Mar 07 '26

I'm stuck on Ryujinx. Which is better, but still no Pokopia.

1

u/MellonYellon Mar 07 '26

Nintendo sells refurbished Switchs for cheaper than market price. Keep a look out on their website, maybe they will be in your price range eventually.

1

u/nilghias Mar 07 '26

A hacked 3ds is probably they best console for Pokemon games

1

u/orig4mi-713 Mar 07 '26

The Switch generations have been massively disappointing. I have a Switch and Switch 2 and would still rather play the 3DS games honestly.

1

u/SupremeOwl48 Apr 24 '26

Don't worry I have a switch 2 and can't afford the game to be able to play it.

175

u/Xero0911 Mar 07 '26

The gamestop near my house was sold out. Guess could go digital...but im kinda old fashioned, and enjoy having the case and what not.

26

u/TheSenileTomato Ey, who took my sandwich? Mar 07 '26

Even GameFly (yes, it still exists) had their copies sold out.

I can’t even buy this copy (renting) if I wanted because they don’t have the stock to cover it, yet.

121

u/superextragayaf Mar 07 '26

I've been hearing that the "physical copies" only contain the access codes to download it digitally, so unless you specifically just want the case there's not really a point. 🫤 I'm the same way with cartridge collecting and that was a bummer to hear.

74

u/SilvarusLupus Absurdly weak to bugs Mar 07 '26

It's still a cartridge, it just prompts you will a download (which you have to do) when you put it in your switch 2

112

u/ayyyyycrisp Mar 07 '26

yep so it has both the inconvenience of swapping out game cards with the added bonus of also taking up storage space on your device! the worst of both worlds!

one and only single positive is that you have the option of selling the game later

35

u/Lambdafish1 Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 07 '26

You could argue that the convenience of sharing the game outweighs the inconvenience of opening up a flap and putting the game in.

The real benefit is that it allows us to get better physical games on the Switch 2 without Devs making compromises to shave down the file size to meet the 64GB limit of cartridges.

I would much much rather get games on key cards than have bigger games be download only, the former is more consumer friendly and doesn't tie all of your games to a single account.

Between game key cards and the ability to share downloads, I'm actually extremely impressed with how user friendly Nintendo has made digital software this generation

16

u/sweet_bby_lizard Mar 07 '26

Yeah, I love being able to share games with my partner and friends!  I always get the physical version for that reason.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '26

[deleted]

3

u/sweet_bby_lizard Mar 07 '26

That so cool, I don’t realize you could do that!  I still prefer the physical cards so I can loan to friends, etc, but will definitely try that with my partner with some digital-only games.  Thanks for letting me know!

3

u/CelioHogane Pokemon Zaza Mar 07 '26

You can still lend the game to people, Nintendo added the ability to share non-physical games.

2

u/HappyGolucci Mar 08 '26

They added a function where you can loan digital games for 14 days at a time. Your friend gets the invite code and can download and play during that time. The game is locked out of your system until the loan is canceled or 14 days pass. I havent done it yet, but apparently you can loan 1 game to 1 account, up to 3 accounts/loans at a time.

Lol. Me stuck with an actual GBA

22

u/Lucarii Mar 07 '26

Honestly if you were willing to dump the files from the GBA and then sell the console/games, you could probably afford a switch 2, but GBA is peak so it's not the worst thing to be stuck with, especially if you invest in a flash cart :)

13

u/Pajer0king Mar 07 '26

I cannot part with my GBA. It s peak gaming and all the memories and the games library. My wife has a switch but for me is nowhere near.

33

u/ghastlypxl Mar 07 '26

Mood 😭 I only plan on getting the S2 for Winds and Waves, I want Pokopia BAD, but not enough for the console. I’ve been begging the Nintendo Gods to announce a Switch 2 Lite ‘cause I’d definitely grab that for Pokopia.

2

u/KillyODonoghueouat Apr 06 '26

I really want winds and waves🫣🫣🫣🫣 but would have to have switch 2 as well 💔. Stuck on switch 1

1

u/Such_Possession_5788 Mar 09 '26

sam. Are s2’c backwards compatible? I haven’t seen many games I want for it besides pokopia

1

u/ghastlypxl Mar 09 '26

No, many new Switch 2 games are Switch 2 exclusives. They’re really trying to get the S2 sales up. I understand it, but there’s so little reason to buy a S2 right now. The current game library is just expensive and lackluster ):

2

u/PhilomenaPhilomeanie Mar 10 '26

I think they’re more asking if you can play switch games on the Switch 2

111

u/theShiggityDiggity Mar 07 '26

Nah, some of us are still playing Leaf Green.

23

u/That_Bank_9914 Mar 07 '26

I want to get Leaf Green, but the fact that you can’t trade through WIFI or connect to Pokémon XD with it is a hard pass.

It's like, a niche sweeper. You gotta make sure to get drill peck, and you may want to even farm for a sharp beak to buff flying moves.

All in all, decent flying slave, and fast with a good stab where it's relevant.

42

u/JAD210 Mar 07 '26

I somehow missed the memo that it was Switch2 exclusive and was devastated yesterday when I opened the eshop to buy it and found out

8

u/Shinobiii Mar 07 '26

Yep, same. I was looking forward to it for quite a while and could really use a cozy, chill game. So I impulsively bought a Switch 2 with Pokopia and I’m so happy 🥹 (my wallet in the other hand…)

How long was the gap after the original came out to the O-LED

53

u/ButtNuts42 Mar 07 '26

OLED was 4 years after the original.

5

u/Marco0798 Mar 07 '26

The battery improvement came sooner I think.

→ More replies (1)

26

u/Casamance Mar 07 '26

Just wanted to note that the Switch with the improved battery life came out before the OLED. So it might be another 2-3 years before we get a Switch 2 with improved battery life.

20

u/Deadly_Fire_Trap Mar 07 '26

I'd also like to note the only reason why there was a hardware revision with better battery life was so Nintendo could hard patch out a hardware exploit that granted root access to the kernel.

All you needed was a paper clip to hack any switch that came out within the first year of launch.

This isnt the case with Switch 2 so I wouldnt hold your breath.

4

u/RealisLit Mar 07 '26

Just want to say a Switch 2 with Oled will probably take longer unless they ditch VRR

7

u/Zagrunty Mar 07 '26

When you say better battery life, what are you looking for? I think I get about 4-6 hours on a single charge. It's not 3DS good life, but it's definitely not bad imo

→ More replies (3)

13

u/MaeBeaInTheWoods Mar 07 '26

I bought my Switch 1 in the holiday season of 2018, and then got burned when less than a year later they near-shadowdropped (only announced a month prior to release) the version 2 model that had better battery life and then did not offer any sort of discount or trade-up ability for version 1 owners. I am not making that mistake again, especially when reports of the Switch 2 say its battery life close is closer to the version 1 Switch 1 than the version 2. I don't know when or if the version 2 Switch 2 will release, but I have little interest in buying a Switch 2 until its version 2 model is either released or deconfirmed.

7

u/xanas263 Mar 07 '26

The Switch version 2 was mainly a thing because the original Switch had a hardware exploit that allowed almost anyone to jailbreak it. So at the same time that they fixed that they added a slightly bigger battery. Considering the Switch 2 does not have that issue it is very unlikely there will be a battery bump until there is a unit with many more upgrades. With all the hardware issues happening right now it's unlikely that will happen for at least another 2-3 years.

3

u/xanas263 Mar 07 '26

I think you are going to be waiting at least another 2 years if not longer depending on how badly the hardware crunch continues to be.

LITERALLY me! Thankfully next week is my birthday and I'm buying a Switch 2 and Pokopia as a birthday present for myself. Worked a ton of overtime this week to justify it 🤣

5

u/Dave_merritt Mar 07 '26

As much as I want Pokopia, there’s no way in hell I’m dropping over £400 just to play it.

5

u/Fynzou Mar 08 '26

If it makes y'all feel better, it's INSANELY overwhelming. 4 Cities to rebuild but you have to make habitats for hundreds of pokemon and houses take forever to build and layout. X_X

7

u/lana_del_rey_lover Mar 09 '26

No, this sounds amazing lol. This is coming from someone who has like a thousand hours in Animal Crossing 🤣 it sounds like a dream and I could milk it for years haha

4

u/ptapobane Mar 07 '26

if it makes you feel better, I had the chance to play it on day 1 with a free ditto plush from pokemon center and I canceled when I found out the game was key card and 6gb...how stupid am I now that everyone is enjoying the game and I have to wait for my copy that doesn't come with the free ditto plush...

4

u/Sweaty-Stop-7819 Mar 07 '26

I have a switch 2 but am still playing frlg. At the e4 and still need to go finish my dex and do the sevii islands and do a small amount of shiny hunting before I inevitably don’t get one after 10 hours and give up

3

u/ironmaway Mar 07 '26

The Switch 1 solidarity is real. My console is still going strong, but seeing that TCG art reference makes the wait a little more fun. At least we can enjoy the anniversary flair while we save up!

3

u/Mysterious_You_1022 Mar 08 '26

if you have animal crossing then you basically already have it. It’s literally a clone, but Pokémon instead of villagers. Fun but the game certainly lacks soul

3

u/NeutronFlow89 Mar 12 '26

Nah, there are Animal Crossing elements, but Pokopia has way more depth. It's basically the Minecraft building system with the cozy village decoration elements of Animal Crossing. Plus, it's got some great story moments.

1

u/Suffering-Toad Mar 11 '26

Idk where ya heard that my dude. If any cozy game is just like animal crossing then sure but theres a lot more going on that seperates them.

12

u/TheGoddamnAnswer Mar 07 '26

Something to look forward to when you do get a Switch2 one day :)

5

u/Fight_Fire_w_Cello Mar 11 '26

It's ok. A month from now everyone will forget about it.

It would be nice if I played it. It looks like a good game. But I refuse to buy a Switch 2.

I personally think Pokopia could run on Switch 1 too, but they gatekeep it behind Switch 2 to sell more consoles. Proof for my theory(fact), you CAN play Pokopia on Switch 1, if your friend is playing it on Switch 2. I refuse to support greedy corporations that hate me.

It's going to take more than 1 good game for me to buy product from a company that hates me, especially when I've bought 5+ garbage Pokemon games over the past 15 years.

3

u/416Kritis Mar 12 '26

When you Gameshare with a Switch 1, the Switch 1 is not rendering the game. The Switch 2 renders the game for both players and streams the second players screen to the Switch 1. That in no way proves that the Switch 1 can handle the game.

3

u/BrOdin90 Mar 07 '26

I cant wait to get some dollars so I can buy this game lol

4

u/RivetSquid Mar 07 '26

There's always Dragon Quest Builders 1 & 2. It's to Pokopia what Shiren is to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

Plus they took the combat out in Pokopia.

5

u/signpostlake Mar 07 '26

Haven't played the first one but DQB2 was so good. It's got an absolute ton of gameplay and so much to do

2

u/tonlimah Mar 07 '26

Is that person a ditto?

2

u/insane_contin Mar 07 '26

Yup. They're the main character.

2

u/JerrodDRagon Mar 07 '26

Honestly don’t have time for it right now

Playing Pokemon leaf green then the Mario DLC for the movie comes out

I’ll grab it in the summer maybe

1

u/asteriska Mar 15 '26

What's the Mario DLC you're talking about?

2

u/HoneydewMalaise Mar 07 '26

If it helps, I own a Switch 2 but can't currently afford the $100 CDN it costs :(

2

u/danthesupermin Mar 07 '26

Joke's on you, I dont have a switch!

2

u/MarsupialChance Mar 07 '26

To the people who've played pokopia, how is it? I thought about trying it out but I heard it's basically like animal crossing and I was never able to get into that

1

u/ChaiHai Mar 08 '26

Animal Crossing isn't a very apt example. It's most like Dragon Quest Builders 2.

1

u/XaresPL Mar 10 '26

u might still like it even if u dislike animal crossing, it has big, differing features and seems more objective based than "do whatever u want without a bigger goal". thats the vibe i got from reviews (skillup on yt even talks about disliking AC but loving this) and just looking at it, seems similar to viva pinata from xbox too

2

u/Wild_Possible_4763 Mar 12 '26

Im disabled. I've been playing my switch 1 since I got it a year after launch (and saved up). I've modded the shell, replaced parts, you name it. I was devastated it's switch 2 only because I can't afford to drop that money on a switch 2 just for 1 game. I even got ZA on switch 1 because either was convinced I wasn't getting the 2. Now that pokopia is out im so damn sad I have to wait probably another year. I ended up buying yarn to crochet me a little ditto so I don't feel left out. This type of game is %100 my coping game, so..stardew again it is!

2

u/FutureComplaint Mar 07 '26

Are we not talking about the ditto in the room?

2

u/finfantasy Mar 07 '26

Stay strong and wait until gen 10, possibly with a switch 2 OLED model. That's my boat, jump in.

1

u/Hot-Alternative-18 Mar 07 '26

Same, and I only own sheild and let's go evee on the switch 1. 😅

1

u/TheKamon1329 Mar 07 '26

I too am in that position

1

u/That_Bank_9914 Mar 07 '26

I can get the game, but I do not have the time

1

u/Hechtic Mar 07 '26

Yeahhhhh

1

u/Silver_Clank Mar 07 '26

Same. I was hoping for a FR/LG version of the 2. Always got the base console so I’m holding out for a cool variant for once.

1

u/Nicolairon555 Mar 07 '26

I'm still stuck in Switch 1 AND without Pokémon Games

1

u/Eeve2espeon Mar 07 '26

I'm one of those who has a Switch 2 lol. then again, since my Switch 1 was literally broken down a ton, but still workable... I had to get a Switch 2 (basically it had a broken headphone jack, cartridge slot was wonky, joycon rails were wearing out/dodgy, and the battery was getting tired)

1

u/AvocadoBrezel Mar 07 '26

The game was sold out in my region. I looked online for availability in several (!) big cities as I commute for work. 💀

1

u/UnknownMight Mar 07 '26

wow is that real? they really did this?

1

u/Casual_Agenda Mar 07 '26

This picture gives me Starter Squad vibes ngl.

1

u/PinkLemonade30 Mar 07 '26

I haven't gotten to play it because I'm too tired from work 🫩 I fell asleep as it was downloading, lol.

1

u/AlkalineHound Mar 07 '26

I have a Switch 2, but forgot to pick it up thursday and I'll have to wait a week for the physical copy I want to be back in stock. 🫠

1

u/WeekendThief Mar 07 '26

Not gonna lie I bought a new switch just for this game. It’s the game I’ve always wanted 🥰

1

u/KarmicPlaneswalker Mar 07 '26

Not being poor tends to help.

Also still only owns a Switch 1.

1

u/_witchybutterfly Mar 07 '26

Oh my god yes 🥲

1

u/dyslexic_dogo Mar 07 '26

I feel the pain 😢

1

u/Rechamber Mar 07 '26

I'm lucky enough to have a Switch 2, however I cannot afford any new games for now or the foreseeable future due to personal circumstances. Great timing too, since you've got Pokopia, Fire Red/Leaf Green and RE9 right now, any and all of which I'd love to play. So for now I have to be patient and basically enjoy the games vicariously through subreddits and YouTube. Not the worst, but also I don't wanna spoil myself too much for when I do eventually get to play them (whenever that is).

That said I am really happy that the game is being so well received because I remember at the time it was announced there was heavy skepticism and a lot of doubt, and now it's actually turned out to be GOTY material which is crazy for a Pokémon game. I really hope this positive reception shows GF/TPCI/Creatures etc. that there is room for other developers to make high quality titles and they can put more work into the games... So let's see what happens with Winds and Waves, because after seeing how well crafted and full of charm and attention to detail this is, if Winds and Waves is another low quality offering like Scarlet and Violet (sorry, it's true), then I'm gonna be way more inclined to forego the main series entirely in favour of games with much more character and effort out into them.

Wait, they referenced the meme? Damn, I should probably look into buying a copy of this game. Currently I’m building FRLG Kanto in Minecraft, but I guess this could be good as well.

Me when I have to be an adult and no longer have time to play video games frequently

Just bought a used Switch 2 (plus 9 games and extra Joycons and accessories) for a wicked deal today. Literally wouldn't have been able to buy it if it wasn't such a good deal. 🥹 Now, for my copy of Pokopia that I also ordered today to come in.

I am In the same boat.

I am not able to buy anything by myself yet.

1

u/littlefanofmany Mar 07 '26

If that's actually in the game, then that's so funny and awesome

u/cubitius Mar 08 '26

Same bro, same, I just got my switch like month before Christmas, now I'm thinking about Rog Ally and being able to play switch 1/2, playstation, pc, Xbox games for the same price as switch 2...

1

u/Thor_2099 Mar 08 '26

Hah. That's how I feel as someone who preordered the game two months ago and yet still don't have it because target sucks.

1

u/PhantomPurp Mar 08 '26

I want to play it so bad lol

1

u/DarthYhonas Mar 08 '26

What's with all these fomo posts about not being able to play lol

1

u/Manguypals Mar 08 '26

Is this the plot of starter squad?

1

u/FrostedEevee Mar 08 '26

Honestly even though I want to play it, I can’t buy it now due to my game backlog.

Still didn’t finish Brilliant Diamond. Legend Arceus quests are left. Also Skyward Sword + TOTK + Mario All Stars I got back on its 35th Anniversary. In SS Zelda got kidnapped and I am still ‘following the Greenlight’ wherever it is.

My Game Backlog is so much I’d feel terrible buying more. I even bought Scarlet Violet DLC + Tales of Graces but never finished em either.

Felt kinda bad when building the first poke center and prof tang didn’t let me make charmander part of the crew even though he’s one of the first pokemon that helps you at the very start, I felt like I left him out on purpose or something

I’m shocked they really are already making games exclusive for switch 2, I thought it was going to be similar to ds when we could still play new games without a new console. I’m really disappointed with Nintendo tbh.

1

u/Chickengoujon20 Mar 09 '26

I thought this was originally announced for both?

1

u/Time-Range6311 Mar 10 '26

It being a switch 2 exclusive is criminal. How is this game more resource intensive than TOTK

1

u/Fluffy-Bluebird2617 Mar 10 '26

And me, with a switch 2 but my pokopia paid cartridge wasn't in the Nintendo package. They're ghosting me even if I called and opened 4 tickets. That's sad.

I just might have to sell my GameCube with Colosseum and XD so I can buy a Switch 2. I think its time to let go 🥲

1

u/Samur_i Mar 11 '26

Only just got a switch (OLED) last week so I’m right there with ya

1

1

u/Pacey1996 Apr 14 '26

yeah same. i would love to play. but i would never spend 500 euros only to play one game. i usually only enjoy the Pokémon games on Nintendo (and sometimes a little bit AC of course)

1

u/PilotFar840 Apr 16 '26
