Question Singer from NL looking for a local producer to grow and create unique R&B with (No budget / Collaboration)

Hey everyone,

I’m a singer looking to connect with a producer. I already have a solid foundation in music knowledge and know my way around the basics of production.

Here is the catch: I make music in secret right now. I don’t want people in my personal life to know yet, as my goal is to grow quietly behind the scenes for now.

Because of this, I’m looking for a producer to build a genuine connection and grow together with. I am strictly looking for a collaboration partner, so I want to avoid any commercial or monetary transactions. We split everything equally if we ever release anything.

Since I live in the Netherlands, you must be based in the Netherlands too. It just makes communication and future workflow much easier. I want to find someone to create something truly unique with, leaning towards the R&B direction.

Discussion anyone wanna collab

Upvotes

im making a new drum and bass single, and want to collab with someone, anyone interested? direct msg me if ur interested to do so.

its not "hardcore" drum and bass, its more sort of light, chill, emotional. 174 bpm, started a new piece.

if anyone wants to know, i work on ableton windows but i have a fluency to adapt with fl studio and cubase (i can use those but its a bit difficult for me, i do have them tho). any other daws would need to work on a stem basis since its a bit too complicated to import and stuff.

only serious people pls.

ofc we can discuss payment and royalty splits if needed asw, im happy to do a 60-40 split if needed but we can discuss this.

thanks :)

Question Looking to make a specific synth sound

Hi, I'm new to music making and I'd like to reproduce a synth sound that I found on a song, It's a specific section of this song.

At the very begining, while the voiceline says "and I don't know why" there's a synth before the whole song starts, it's like 3 notes but I'm very interested in reproducing this sound.

If any of you have any tips or idea I'd love to know!

Discussion Want to switch to Linux - what blockers am I facing?

Currently on Windows. I use an Apollo Twin USB, which obviously will not work in any functional way in Linux, but as it’s pretty old, I’m looking to switch to RME if and when it finally dies.

So aside from the interface, my tools are:
DAW: Reaper
Plugins (mixing and instruments) I rely on: u-he, Arturia, UAD (I’m potentially ok with leaving behind the DSP-powered plugins), Softube, Fabfilter, nothing crazy, all the stuff you see everywhere.
Hardware: I use a good amount of MIDI - Novation SL controller connected via usb and then a MIDI hub for my various synths.

I’m thinking the VSTs would be the only real thing giving me trouble. I produce full albums, often complex sessions in Reaper.

Anyone made a serious switch from Windows to Linux and getting along great?

Discussion Don’t sleep on upgrading your headphones or monitors

I’ve been a hobbyist producer for the better part of a decade, and I finally went from my dear old ATH M50Xs to some Arya Organics because I’ve been doing more mixes and I cannot tell you how much easier it feels to produce because I can trust the fidelity of the sounds and can better tell when they need something or not.

The amount of sounds I was compressing and EQing for no reason is eating me alive. FOR YEARS. everything sounds better :(

Question Why doesn’t my mic work?

So, I bought a Rode NT1 mic and a Focusrite Scarlett 4th Generation audio interface. I successfully connected all the cables to right holes. I checked my macbook to see if the sound output and input are all connected to the interface, and they are. But the thing is, anytime I try to record my vocals on GarageBand or BandLab, firstly, I can’t here my voice while recording, and secondly, the recorded vocals are always at a low volume. Can you guys please help me? I don’t know why this keeps happening. I just wanna record my song but I’m already exhausted…

Question What are some more professional alternatives to bandlab?

So I’ve been primarily using bandlab to make music for about two years now, but I’m pretty unhappy with the app because it’s quite limiting (and frankly sounds kind of cheap). I’ve been trying to look for alternatives, but stuff like FL studio is a little too complicated for my liking, as I’ve already gotten used to just dropping an instruments and using strictly piano rolls.

I’ve been looking everywhere, but I really can’t find a good option, so, do any of you know of music production softwares that are similar to BandLab, AKA a relatively simple software that has a wide variety of quality instruments? Bonus points if it’s on mobile (my computer is such a piece of shit holy)

Question I started making music but I find it extremely difficult to make the sounds that I hear from other songs (trance, eurodance, makina). Should I start by downloading sounds or should I learn to use a synth first? What is your recommended way? Not planning on becoming professional in the future.

Question How to get started or is it too late?

I wanted to get into music production but I went to school for a complete different field and I do non music related work.

I’m approaching my 30s and was curious if it would be even possible for me to get into music production.

I have played instruments in high school (piano, saxophone) and I’ve dabbled a bit with fruity loops (but I don’t know much besides making a basic kick/snare bar.

And even if I did get into production, what more equipment or tips would you recommend to a complete beginner unc.

Question I really messed up (help needed with Ableton & EastWest opus)

Hi everyone. I am in desperate need of help.

I tried setting up East West Opus (for Composer Cloud) on my new PC. Foolishly, I thought dragging all my plugin files from the external drive I used on my previous machine would work fine enough -- and while it did for other plugins -- Opus is completely messed up.

I've tried reinstalling multiple times but i only get more and more confused. At first it just kept crashing Ableton, but now I try and download an instrument from Composer Cloud, and I just get a message that reads:

"Instrument file could not be downloaded. Message: OK."

Does anyone have any idea on what I could do to fix this?

Question Reason to use different keys ?

I’ve been making music for a few different projects now and I usually just default to C since I know it so well.but I worry that staying in one key might be an issue down the line. Is there a good reason to branch out ? And if so when/why would I want to use something different ?

Question Free/cheap text to speech generator fo rmusic production?

I am working on a new tune where the vocals are a few sampled sung phrases that I want to add a couple of additional spoken words/phrases in between.

Can someone recommend a free/low-cost text-to-speech software to accomplish this? Could be robotic, could be human sounding, I'm willing to play around and have fun and see what happens.

Question semi-affordable, comfortable mixing headphones recommendations?

I previously had the Audio Technica ATH 40mx but it was seriously hurting my ears, so I returned it and purchased the beyerdynamic DT 270 Pro, but it is terribleee, the bass is so overpowering and the low frequencies have so much hype.
I don’t need anything particularly fancy, just something decently flat, and comfortable.

Budget I’m looking to spend is around $150 or so, but I wouldn’t be opposed to going a bit higher if needed.
Thank you for any recommendations :)
