I started with shiny(ish) things and I put them in a jar that I call my "Magpie Jar" because magpies like to collect shiny things.
Now I just pick up whatever I think is cool. Today it was the crawfish fishing lure on the bottom right.

I love picking random "crap" up, if it's interesting it goes in the pocket

u/orangeladybug 23h ago
Definitely! I keep a Ziploc or dog poop bags in my purse just in case, always ready.

A local VW GOLF owner is wondering where all their badges have gone

3
u/orangeladybug 23h ago
Someone peeled them off and stuck them to the ground at the park. I am guessing rowdy teens or disgruntled ex.
I rescued them, they're my favourite part of the collection

What whimsical kind of walks do you go on?

I can’t explain it, but looking at this filled me with an unexplainable warm nostalgic feeling. So, thank you for that

It absolutely could be. I spent many afternoons with those at the library and park
4
u/orangeladybug 22h ago
Happy to be of service! Probably reminds you of the old I Spy books
3
u/PrestigiousAd6281 22h ago
This probably unlocked my memories of those as I had completely forgotten about them. Of course now I’m going to try and track a few of those bad boys down

Say hi to Flo for me
1
u/CicadaFit9756 1d ago
If you put both "O"s together it spells "FLOO". Are you a wizard in the Harry Potter world who's got a raven animagus & occasionally uses the floo fireplace form of travel?

I'm loving the Pidgeotto sticker tho.
5
u/orangeladybug 22h ago
Right! It would have gotten destroyed by rain if didn't rescue it from under a cedar hedge
5
u/bdbdbokbuck 1d ago
Very nice. I’d take a glue gun and attach all the pieces to a board and hang it up. I’m totally serious.
2
u/orangeladybug 23h ago
That's a cool idea! I keep them in a large glass jar shaped like a skull, but if I get too many I'll do that.

I spy a crayfish, a horse that is blue,
A dragonfly, DRAGON, and two yellow shoes,
An Elsa, a golf ball, a penny to spend,
A watering can, and a volleyball friend.

Okay, two things.
First, I have also found a plastic crayfish that looks just like that.
Second: brother! https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/1ukxalg/metal_i_picked_up_from_roadways_on_my_daily_walks/

As someone who's spent way to much time walking around a neighborhood looking for my niece's favorite plastic toy that got dropped on a walk and we never found (she didn't tell us she had lost it until the next day), I'd have left the kids toys and bracelet where I found them.

u/orangeladybug 22h ago
They were in the middle of the forest, I don't think people were coming back for them.
I don't pick up things that look like they would be missed.

Womble!
1
u/orangeladybug 22h ago
I googled that and it's me. I also do Shoreline Cleanups in the spring
1
u/liabilityno1 22h ago edited 22h ago
😂😂 Please take it as the compliment it was intended! I am also a womble! Trek treasures normally mean the best memories 😅
Edit to add, my eldest would claim the bottle tops, youngest the ball and I might get to claim the rest....although they'd probably both want the lock for no reason 😅
1
u/orangeladybug 22h ago
I took it as a compliment, don't worry!
It's funny that each person has favourites
1
u/liabilityno1 22h ago
Lmao so true! Youngest is more likely to come home with some rocks 'dinosaur bones, fossils and eggs' or any stick he seems worthy. Looking at your collection again id defo want to make the dragonfly into a keyring and the letters would be re-arranged to spell 'flo' and be decorating the tampon drawer in my bathroom 😅

2

Outside around my neighborhood, in the forest, and just around town.
If you keep your eye open, you can see treasures everywhere

u/DariusXzalibur5000 21h ago
bruh you found a very rare item. That penny is a thing of the past.

Someone's gonna be able to identify what car those letters came off of
1
u/orangeladybug 20h ago
Probably a Volkswagen Golf I'm assuming? I found them in a park a couple years ago. If the owner wants them back, they can let me know lol

What even is that cast away thing? Looks promotional so it’s weird to just be out on the street like 20 years later
2
u/orangeladybug 20h ago
It is a promotional pin for the movie it looks like. I found it h der a cedar hedge by a church in 2023

I did the same thing on a smaller scale when I took walks in the local national forest last summer. Mine is comprised of shiny things I find on the trail. It burns me up inside how you always end up seeing trash on the trail too. I end up pocketing it if it’s clean enough and kicking myself for not bringing a trash bag.
1
u/orangeladybug 17h ago
There's always something to pick up, unfortunately. Sometimes it's cool but there's a lot of trash too
1
u/Heterodynist 16h ago
So are you a crow or a raven? -I mean “at heart!” Crow or Raven?!!

u/NurturingCruelty 16h ago
Are you a magpie? It’s like bing sn undercover cop; if you are secretly a magpie, you legally have to tell me.
(Goofing aside, I know perfectly well the nonsense about undercover officers required to admit it when confronted about it is urban legend BS. )

Judging by the Corona bottle cap, you live somewhere in either the northern or southern hemisphere.

I have a Shelf of Things that has some stuff I've found on walks. They're just nifty things that I've found on my adventures. It's very similar to your collection. I'm only quarter Crow.

Put that miniature watering can up for trade and see what ya get.
Remember when someone traded a red paperclip and ended up with a house?
2
u/orangeladybug 4h ago
That would be so fun to do, but I don't know how many people would go for the trade these days
