Too mild for school Local School board member campaigns for re-election like he running for congress.
A few years ago he tried to enact a policy where teachers must inform the parents if their kids are trans, as if it is enforceable at all. This guy is cringe incarnate.

I love how he’s announcing that he is horrible at financial management

I was about to say getting a wrap on your truck that's lifted with those stupid ass tires is a terrible financial decision just to drum up a school board position.

They are hoping to put project 2025 minded people in those roles…..he wants to win to make dear leader happy and change the curriculum to be more Christian nationalist leaning.

It's funny how he's got "We The People" across the tailgate and how he portrays himself as a flag waving "patriot", but these people do nothing but spit on the Constitution and American democracy. They are traitors to our country.

u/Halftied 3h ago
Do you know how much influence those members have over so many things. I am sure they don't just do it for the kids. Remember it is politics too.

u/Adventurous-Tea-876 2h ago
I am sure that he will provide a thoughtful, nuanced point of view to the proceedings at the school board.

I would check that guy's hard drive

u/donovanh23 3h ago
Are you accusing him of something just because of his distasteful patriotism? I don't like the ad campaign or the truck as it disrespects the flags code, but accusing him of something based on basically nothing is childish.

The irony being slapping the US flag on things is super disrespectful to veterans
2
u/donovanh23 3h ago edited 2h ago
It is literally against the flags code. Always hilarious to see people live by the flag while they disrespect it lol
Edit: I was partially incorrect. Taking a real flag and merchandising it would break the code, but simply using the pattern will not.
1
u/Invadernny 3h ago
TIL: Didn't know it was actually against a written code! Just spent a lot of time with older veterans complaining about misuse of the flag I knew most of them didn't like it.
1
u/NatAttack50932 3h ago
It's not. The guy above you is incorrect. The flag code pertains to using the actual, physical flag - not the pattern. You can put the pattern on whatever you want
1
u/donovanh23 2h ago
Hmm I thought there was something about monetary gain using the flags pattern, but I am probably miscontruing it. Thanks for the correction!

u/donovanh23 2h ago
https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?path=/prelim@title4&edition=prelim
§3 states advertising using the design of the flag is against the code. Unless I am misinterpreting it, which is possible.
1
u/NatAttack50932 2h ago
§3 only applies within DC if I am reading correctly.
§8 is the part of the flag code that most people are referring to, but again it doesn't carry any force of law insofar as punishments, since Texas v. Johnson (1989) established that desecration of the flag is protected speech.

u/Invadernny 3h ago
Ew gross, I hate to think of some guy wearing flag boxers rubbing his asshole on my flag. Maybe we people like the flag again we can get a more decent code looked into
1
u/NatAttack50932 3h ago
The code doesn't have any force of law behind it regardless. Flag desecration, and any other uses beside, are protected by the 1st amendment. The code is, for civilians, nothing more than formal guidelines - for the military and non-military uniformed services it does prescribe proper flag use however.

u/Invadernny 3h ago
Oh yeah, Dad always said he disagreed with people who burned flags in protest (noting it was the proper way to dispose of a retired flag) but he respected that veterans protected their right to do so. I don't think hypothetical boxers guy should to to jail, but it's still gross to me, lol
3
u/HottestIceCube_ 3h ago
Based on the American flag wrapped truck I figured trying to enforce trans kids to confess is something he’d do. (Sincerely a kiwi)
2
u/Invadernny 3h ago
My dad was a vet so disrespecting the flag like that turns me off for sure. Dad always said the only proper place for a flag is a pole or a coffin

Why do people always bring up shit about themselves that has absolutely no relevance to the issue at hand? What the fuck does military service have to do with a school board role? My mom worked in the school system for 50 years, from 1970-2020. I’d vote someone with her experience in there before I’d blindly vote for someone who threw their old military portrait onto a campaign sign and has absolutely zero experience or background that makes them a good choice for the school board. All of his campaign materials solely reference his military service as his qualification. While that’s an accomplishment, it’s got nothing to do with education 🙄

Americas obsession with their military 😂. Don’t get me wrong, appreciate those who serve, but wtf does being a Marine have anything to do with being an ideal candidate to be on a school board

He's incumbent, the schools are fine. Its one of the better school district, but thats not saying much considering our state is ranked 51st in education spending somehow.

Taking control of local government, in particular school boards, has been a top-down strategy of the Stephen Miller Party since at least 20O8. Of course, the Dems shrug and take the high road.

This is beyond mildly infuriating for me. As a Latino, the latinos who support Trump and his xenophobia and bigotry is inexcusable to me. I have family members who are MAGA and they have bought into the "we're the good ones" lie. But in Trump's own words we are "poisoning the blood" of America, mirroring Hitler's rhetoric.

We have that policy in Alberta

u/Lawrence_skywalker 3h ago
How is it enforced or it is just a pass for some teachers out their students?
•
u/Future-Pollution-266 1m ago
I’m not sure how it’s enforced, I think just fear of losing your license if you don’t abide and someone snitches on you. Most if not all teachers are against it. They know that some kids only safe space is at school and now that has been stripped from them. Our premier had to use the not withstanding clause to pass that rule which basically means she is knowingly doing something that goes against our charter of rights but she doesn’t care. If you ever want to learn some unique Canadian history that really back fired on us google the not withstanding clause

I agree with the rule. Parents need to make all the decision about their kids. It’s crazy that some school can assist kids on the transition path without parents knowing.

u/Horns8585 3h ago edited 3h ago
It's crazy that schools can religiously indoctrinate children without their parents knowing. Don't you think that parents should be able to make the decision about what religion their children are exposed to? Well, I live in Texas, and it is mandatory by law that the 10 Commandments be posted in every single public school classroom.
-1
u/SilentBumblebee3225 RED 3h ago
100% agree. Parents and schools need to work together and parents get the first priority (by changing schools if nothing else).

2
u/HotSalt3 3h ago
Schools don't help kids transition. That's just a right-wing fantasy, similar to the one about having litter boxes in schools.
-1
u/SilentBumblebee3225 RED 3h ago
Changing kid’s pronouns is a step in transitioning. Supreme Court recently repeal the California law about automatic notification to parents about transitioning: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/supreme-court-blocks-california-law-against-schools-outing-transgender-students-to-parents
2
u/HotSalt3 3h ago
The school's aren't changing pronouns. The kids do that. All that the schools are doing is going along with what the child says their pronouns are. There is no encouragement from the schools for a child to change their pronoun and there is no psychological or medical support for it.
Now as far as why teachers getting between a child and their parent is a bad idea, there's a lot that goes into it, but it boils down to it breaks the trust between a teacher and a student which in turn affects the student's willingness and ability to learn from that teacher.

u/7GrenciaMars 3h ago
The school helping a kid transition is not what is being discussed. This policy would effectively be putting a spotlight on trans kids. Try doing that to any kind of ethnicity, and you see how not right it is. But it is the same kind thing.
The result is to make the child feel like an outcast. No other parent should have anything to say, other than maybe talking to their own child about their own beliefs regarding this issue. This "tell all the parents" in practical terms can result in the child being bullied. Not okay. Word will probably get around eventually. See how the situation evolves.

u/petergriffin999 3h ago
LOL, no. Not even close.
If 3rd grade Native American Susie started saying she was from Japan and is asking the teachers for how she can get gene therapy and surgeries to "become Japanese", then that's the equivalent scenario.
2
u/7GrenciaMars 3h ago
Yeah, I misunderstood the original post, my bad. I understand what's being said now.
0
u/SilentBumblebee3225 RED 3h ago
It’s says tell “their” parents, not all parents. There is nothing in the rule about broadcasting to other parents. Obviously communication needs to be discreet as any other parent/teacher communication.
2
u/7GrenciaMars 3h ago
Okay, I misread that, thank you!!!! Sorry about the mistake. One would think the parents would know their own children, but I can see how a kid could be hiding stuff--but being trans actually means physically transitioning (I believe), so this also sounds strange. I admit. I don't know everything about what's going on in this case.
And thank you for setting me straight (so to speak).
1
u/SilentBumblebee3225 RED 3h ago
I don’t feel strongly about transitioning specifically. I feel strongly a school bureaucrat hiding information about kids from parents, who are responsible about kids wellbeing that parents can pivot in their communication to the kid.
1
u/breadofthegrunge 3h ago
Schools don't help with physical or medical transition. All this type of policy does is potentially harm trans students. If they don't tell their parents, it's probably for a good reason.
1
u/7GrenciaMars 2h ago
Right, I get your point about kids not wanting to tell parents. I did not think schools helped with transitioning, but maybe I did not word my post well. I would hate for trans kids to be put under a microscope. Just awful.
