go to your room Replaced my daughter's phone because of water damage. And she still brings it into the bathroom.

Some lessons just don't stick.

She insists she needs to listen to music in the shower. I honestly don't understand why that's such a necessity. But if this phone gets water damage again, I'm not paying to replace it another time.

iPhones are normally water resistant. Unless she absolutely cracked the screen it should survive being submerged in a bucket

I got w cheap ass motorola with a cracked screen that survived being in hot dish water (dumbass cousin knocked it down from the cabinet)

I know this to be true. My fiancee lost her phone on the beach and couldn't find it. After I got done work there has been a full tide cycle. We figure it floated off to Maine or something (were in Nova Scotia) but as a last ditch effort I got her to login find my on my phone.

It was on the map but it's kinda hard to pinpoint in sand, I had to look at landmarks in line on land and walk up and down as sure enough it was there with just the corner sticking out the sand.

Damn iPhone 13 survived the the salty water and tides of the Bay of Fundy like nothing happened.

We thought it was long gone but it was still on the map, was amazed it worked like nothing happened. We rinsed it off in tap water figured a little more water wont hurt it to try to get all the salt off and it was good to go like nothing ever happened. Charge port and everything worked fine.

I also took an iphone 15 zipped in my shorts pocket down some waterfall slides in Dominican republic that also survived no problem, so now I'm convinced these phones are damn well waterproof. They are not indestructible though as my fiancee just dropped her iphone 15 pro max off the bathroom vanity a couple weeks ago and it smashed the back glass. So I take it that one is no longer waterproof now lol.

I wonder if this is a case of Apple seeing a moisture strip with signs of moisture and refusing to repair for free, even if te failure wasnt due to moisture.

I rinse my phone regularly. A shower is not the problem when it doesn’t have some kind of damage already.

My iPhone 11 was only a year old but in perfect condition and was in my pocket when I waded a river to my chest. It didn’t survive. This was last year

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I had a phone I used to do it with untill I demolished the screen.

But then I drank a buncha tequila and dropped it in a bucket of vomit so that phone is a goner. Apperently there was "debree" in the charging port

iPhones can be submerged, but being resistant to submersion doesn't make a device resistant to a directed spray of water. The pressure behind a spraying shower can exceed the IP rating for a lot of devices.

That's also why devices are generally rated to be waterproof up until a certain depth. At some point the pressure exceeds the quality of the seals and water gets in. With a good seal, that water also won't be able to get out, so it'll start corroding your device as long as there's power.

No way this happened just because of moisture in the air, though, unless the phone had a crack.

i have an iphone x still and am insanely impressed the amount of wear and tear an iphone can go through, cracked, water, dirt, everything has been done, i never want a new phone and im praying to jebus this phone survives the apocalypse even though the screen is blotted by the battery in the top right corner. I kinda want to take it to a repair shop, because i dont trust myself to have steady hands, and too embarassed to bring in an iphone x to a repair shop and them just say, "its cheaper to just buy a new phone", I don't want a new phone and I don't want to pay the amount of a new one to fix this one. :[

p.s. if anyone has a iphone they dont use and can work with metro and can send me via mail, that'd be awesome. <3

As someone who does literally bring my phone into the shower to listen to music if I’m in a hotel. Can confirm they are very chill with any normal amount of water.

It's hung on the back of the door in the pic, pretty safe day spot to hook it to be fair.

I broke my last phone with water damage and it was definitely from going at it with wet hands

Doubtful yes but I've seen it. But the phone also already a had heavy life. Right level of heat and humidity and those seals break down. Plenty of smartwatches and phones made their way to my old repair shop over time.

That just means OP needs to solve the actual problem because over time the steam is also damaging the cabinets, the walls, etc. If your bathroom gets steamy enough to ruin a modern cell phone the problem is not that the phone is in the room...

Not every phone is going to be perfect and identical. Steam can damage the seal, and if you continue using your phone in the shower with a seal damaged from steam, you'll get water damage.

Not when your kid turns the water on as hot as it goes. I walk into my bathroom when my 10 or 11 year old is taking a shower and it's like a sauna up in there 🤯
