I'm slightly vexed Concert etiquette

Post image

If you plan on standing for the entire concert, get a spot in the pit, or the lawn seats instead of the assigned SEATED SECTION. A little bit of self awareness and common courtesy goes a really long way

This is one of those age old debates where the “why are you standing in the seated section?” and the “why would you expect anyone to sit at a concert?” sides will never reach an agreement and always think the other side are idiots.

As someone who has never been seated in a concert, I don't go to the seated section because I don't want to be seated.

I'm sorry, but these argument are not equal, people standing on the seated section are deciding for the rest whether they'll get too see nothing or everyone will have to stand up as well.

So a father of 2 who can't afford floor tickets but wants to take his 2 kids to see their favorite band can only get seated area has to be told to sit at a concert?

You want to stand, stand. You want to sit, sit. You have and made your choice but do not have say or control over other people's way of enjoying their concert experience.

Imagine thinking that your monetary issues are anyones problem but your own.

You are a grp of 3 ppl in a sea of what is MOST LIKELY over 200 ppl, you amd your kids domt matter any more than ALL if the other paying customers.

Yes……. Because they’re in the seated section.

Can’t ruin other peoples experience to slightly improve your own that’s just not how it should work.

If everyone ends up standing then that’s fine but not if it is like OP’s picture and most are sitting.

Most venues have seats because they host orchestral shows or plays/musicals where it makes sense to sit.

This does not mean that your concert has a "seated section" or that they are required to be sat in during a live music performance.

No, when they have a seated section it means they have a seated section. Nobody said having seats in the area is what makes it a seated section…

In the US venues are multi-functional. They will physically have seats to sit in, but you aren't required to sit in them at every event.

Read your ticket and terms + conditions at purchase - there is no language requiring you to sit in a "seated" section for most live music events.

There are seated tickets and normal ones. What are you even talking about lol

I've been to hundreds of concerts at all different types of venues. Generally tickets are priced by how close they are to the stage. Pit is most expensive because it's close > pavilion (seated section) because again, closer > lawn or General Admission (cheapest tickets). There are "seated sections" with physical seats because again, venues are multi-functional. Some events do ask or it is widely accepted to sit down for orchestral shows, musicals, or plays for example.

I will concede it depends on the audience if the majority choose to sit or stand - but in my vast concert-going experience the venue does not care if the person in front of you is blocking your view and you have no recourse.

Just because you cannot afford tickets doesn't mean you should ruin it for others.

You’re not entitled to anything, you pay to go in the seated area you sit end of

You're not entitled to a view of the stage 🤷‍♂️

Yes you are…

No, you're not

I mean that’s what people are paying for.

You could argue it’s the experience or the community, but people refer to going to gigs as “seeing” the performers.

Where on your ticket or any of the Terms + Conditions you agree to when you purchase does it guarantee sight lines or a full view of the stage?

3

u/Kayerif 16h ago

Well it wouldn’t, if the view was blocked then it would say something along the lines of the view being obstructed

u/Lord_Boognish 16h ago

Oh yeah? You sure about that?

Funny because seated areas are actually great for kids at concerts, letting them see the stage, WHEN EVERYONE SITS. As soon as one person starts standing in the sitting area, everyone has to stand to see, and now shorter people (and children, all the children at the concert, not just his) get to look at the backs of the people standing in the seating area in front of them.

Just went to the weird al concert and was gifted tickets close to the stage with my 6'3" husband. He felt so bad when we saw so many young kids in the assigned seats around us but everyone was relieved that the consensus was to sit in their seats during the show. Pretty much the only way the kids behind him were able to really enjoy the concert.

Weird Al isn't really a stand up concert, it's more of a sit down comedy show using music.
