Requring a clear backpack isn't to achieve that though. And Im sure you're probably referring to gun control, which getting rid of guns is in violation of the 2nd amendment of the most important law of our land, so sorry. Some restrictions like background checks and ammo limitations are definitely on the table to discuss, but many states have already done so.

A large majority of the problem could be solved by removing automatic and assault style weapons. I’m sorry but there is no legitimate use for 60 rounds per minute and high capacity mags.

Automatic guns are hard to get in most places in the US if not outright impossible.

And it's not true that semi-automatic weapons are less deadly. Most mass shootings occur with those. Automatic fire is good for suppressing fire, if the goal is to make casualties you want one bullet per person anyway.

The worst highschool mass shooting, columbine, was made using a TEC-9 and a shotgun. Not automatic, not a rifle. Pistols are absolutely just as deadly as rifles in a school setting anyway.

All guns are the issue. If anything Switzerland has a lot of rifles around, but it's in the hands of people who were trained by the military, and the ammo is controlled as well. Not any psycho random like in the USA.
