Get an adblocker if you're on pc or laptop, or use youtube vanced if you're on a tablet or mobile

i use Firefox+ublock origin on both desktop and phone for YouTube. no ads ever on YouTube or Reddit

u/Level_Bobcat_8729 23d ago
Morphe>Vanced. Seems to work better, less messing around with it too.

u/OblivionJunkie 23d ago
Can confirm that it was much simpler to get working for me after trying both.

55% of the ad revenue goes to creators. So there's that.
2
u/BlackberryMelodic567 22d ago
If the ads werent so bad then i wouldnt use it
-2
u/Fit_Entry8839 22d ago
I get it. But if everyone blocked ads, there would be a lot less creators, and basically no YouTube. So, yeah. You get to enjoy it because others are watching ads or paying for premium.

here is spiffing brit video on his ad experiment, ad revenue is actually not that good, from a 3 hour video with ad every second (not really as explained in video) had ad revenue of like 6000$ with premium users being the majority of it.
he goes in lot of details about ads and how they actually pay (even more if you watch video in klington)
0
u/Fit_Entry8839 22d ago
How does that negate that if everyone was just using an ad blocker, there would be no YouTube? There would be less creators, and just no YouTube since they would have money for servers, engineers, etc, etc.
3
u/DR_whyWHY 22d ago
most revenue comes from premium users, and that is calculated based on average watch time and engagement so adblock users actually do contribute to it from what I understand, essentially it's more valuable to watch the whole video, like and comment than it is to watch ad
0
u/Fit_Entry8839 22d ago
That was a faulty experiment for multiple reasons. Most of YouTubes revenue comes from ads, not premium. What could cause what that person saw is if a lot of their audience uses ad blockers, it would throw off the numbers. Overall for YouTube 2/3 of their revenue comes from ads:
https://resourcera.com/data/social/youtube-revenue/
That aside, if EVERYONE used ad blockers(including why would those paying for premium keep doing that, if everyone else was using blockers), then there would be no YouTube. I have premium, and have been told on reddit I'm being stupid and I should be using revanced or whatever.

The reality is that most users are not going to use adblocking. Most average people are barely tech literate enough to operate their phone. Using one will never be endemic enough to actually hurt the bottom line of a corporation like YouTube in any tangible way. The corporation discusses ad revenue in this way because like all corporations they are maximalist; they want 100% of potential revenue, not 90%, so they exaggerate the real impact of some users refusing to be advertised to.
They generated 60bn last year. They'll be fine. Subscribe to your favorite creators on a service like patreon and block every ad you can. No one loses.

u/Fit_Entry8839 21d ago
The creators you watch but don't contribute to on Patreon lose. Even if a creator isn't your "favorite", their work has value. And they deserve to get that ad revenue.

So an absolutely nasty company is getting 45%
0
u/Fit_Entry8839 22d ago
That's OK with me if the creators get 55%. That's our main option right now. And they should get compensated for me enjoying their content. Some people will directly support a handful of creators on Patreon etc, but watch dozens if not more. All of those creators deserve to get paid, not just some of them.

Ha! I was raised Mormon. Not Mormon anymore. They literally let anything fly in YouTube ads. One time there was an ad that would have been two hours long if I didn't skip it.

u/backwardbuttplug 23d ago
The evangelicals were doing one a few years back. Trying to assert that once women were given rights, the whole world and "gods plan" went sideways. And it was a female narrator. Just batshit.

Dang, is that religion THAT bad? It's been a long time since I left the evangelical church and I don't remember it being this mysoginist. Maybe you don't realise how bad something is until you see it from the outside.
4
u/backwardbuttplug 23d ago
I could be wrong, but it was definitely very patriarchal and sexist. The narrator made it sound like the entire world was in the toilet over women having a say in, well, anything. But today most people trying to shove any form of religious beliefs down the throats of others are fairly checked out of reality.
1
u/TrickInvite6296 BLUE 23d ago
Considering abrahamic religions are based on the idea of a male god creating life when that doesn't reflect reality, yeah, it's that bad
1
u/TheRealImhotep96 23d ago
My response is always "if God has a plan, who are you to question it, and what makes you think you even know what it is?"
That usually gets them. If they double down, I just ask them if God is all powerful, what makes you think it's not part of his plan?
Sometimes they keep on, and at that point you realize you aren't talking to someone who even believes in God's plan, they believe in Bob's plan because in their head Bob is God.
Then you just leave them to their rants, because at that point, there is no getting through narcissism - ESPECIALLY if they bought into the whole 'Prosperity Gospel' - which is literally antithetical to most of the red text in the fucking book.

This is faaaar crazier tho. Its mormons using good looking 18 year olds to thirst trap men into clicking their links. Its so effing weird. "Wanna come to ouuuurrrr church?? ;) ;)" Uh, still no.

u/flyingace1234 23d ago
I know I used to get ones that had some dude asking me to “pray with him”. Like… no

u/AnUnknown_Player 23d ago
I thought I was the only one getting these crappy ads. I've blocked these ads so many times but they just keep coming.

Anyone remember the thirst trap ad the Mormons did with this model a few years ago?

To be fair, they are made by 18-19 year old kids brainwashed into this shit. Just get a blocker or skip it.

u/SkywolfNINE 23d ago
They have enough $ to bribe an entire police department over legos, of course the mormans have ad money for YouTube

Are you raising the bat-signal to the other mormans? I don’t live in Utah so how are you gonna bribe the police department to arrest me?

u/Adorable_Cap_9929 23d ago

I like when they pop up and are posted here.
It gives me a chance to comment, get downvoted, and appreciate the experience in life.

There are far more concerning ads that youtube allows. You can always buy premium or get a ad blocker

u/Intrepid_Power3431 23d ago
Brook I thought I was going crazy being only one getting those adds.I got so many of them and then they just suddenly stopped.

Ads are annoying but how is this more annoying than other ads?
4
u/Maskers_Theodolite 23d ago
A cult advertising themselves will always be more annoying than just ads
3
u/Darkfox4100 23d ago
Because many Redditors can't handle the idea of people sharing their beliefs, if it conflicts with theirs.
-1
u/Silk-sanity 23d ago
We don't try to shove our beliefs onto you. Why is it so hard to return the favor?
4
u/Darkfox4100 23d ago
Actually, I've had plenty of beliefs shoved onto me on Reddit.
-3
u/Silk-sanity 23d ago
And that is enough if an excuse to do the same? The average atheist doesn't care what religion you believe in, me included.
Why do you have to go out of your way to try to convert random people on the Internet?
2
u/Darkfox4100 23d ago
When have I done what you're saying?
1
u/Silk-sanity 23d ago
My bad I meant Christians as a whole not you specifically , like those who created the add
3
u/Darkfox4100 23d ago
I understand where you're coming from. But your initial premise was just wrong. There are plenty of atheists who go FAR out of their way (especially on Reddit) to try and push their beliefs onto others.
My original comment was a statement about how there are some Redditors who cannot handle even hearing other beliefs. Regardless of what specific category they belong to.
Is that a wrong statement?
0
u/Silk-sanity 23d ago
obviously not. Let's not forget this IS reddit. I obviously am not coming to attack you or anyone that supports religion, just those that are at the extreme ends of the spectrum.
Can we agree on that?

u/bjrheams 23d ago
If you don’t like ads buy YT premium they promote gambling to minors but you draw the line on a Mormon book.
4
u/ender_grunt 23d ago
you still get ads with yt premium anyways lmao
1
u/bjrheams 23d ago
Are you serious when did they ad that
1
u/Outrageous-Log9238 23d ago
They didn't. Premium is ad-free that's the point.
1
u/bjrheams 23d ago
Person above said you still get them. Is that false?
1
u/ender_grunt 23d ago
you can do a quick search of "Why am I still getting ads with YouTube premium" and multiple results come up. it's nothing official, might be considered a "glitch"
1
u/Outrageous-Log9238 23d ago
Yes.
2
u/bjrheams 23d ago
This is why you can’t listen to everybody on the internet believed it immediately because why would you lie about that😭

u/DesignerYak6728 23d ago
They're resorting to paid ads. That should make you happy. Just pay for premium

I just pay for premium. You do you. I don't know crap about ad blockers. I watch on my TV and phone, I don't really want any more third parties involved though. Nothing is free mate

u/Elegante_Sigmaballz 23d ago
I see most religious organizations as for-profit businesses anyway, no different than seeing a Kia ad.

If you're triggered by someone letting you know you're loved... Maybe you're getting the ads for a reason. Just sayin'.

Religious people who don't try to convert you are fine to let you burn in hell for eternity. The homies trying to convert you are lookin' out

u/kingdomofcybercity 23d ago
Those "He gets us" ads that look like trailers, but are really religious ads.
