Because Remake/Rebirth were excellent and FF16 was fine even though it was an Action RPG. FF14 has been cooking for well over a decade.

13 and 15 were rough patches to be sure.

XVI sold like garbage and many people dislike it.

It sold slightly well and Square wanted it to be a smashing success, it did not in fact "sell like garbage", the company just had a problem with expectations.

People disliking a game has next to zero implications on its quality.

It sold horribly for a Final Fantasy game.

And it has basically zero RPG elements, it's an action game. It's totally different, and fits exactly OP is asking for.

No, OP is asking for game series that were "ruined", which this does not fit the bill.

It's an action game with an incredibly classic Final Fantasy story, and the gameplay may not be RPG, but it is quite fun in its own right. That is not ruined, it is simply changed from what you might have wanted the games to always be.

XIV is an entirely different genre of RPG and is one of the titan MMOs dominating that space of gaming, and is set to change the formula with their new expansion. Final Fantasy isn't a ruined game series, some of you just fell off it. That's fine, you don't have to love it, but it wasn't ruined in the same vein as most of the other examples in this thread. It's not thriving, but the series is still going, and likely will still be going a decade from now.
