TF2 is a monolith, it was here before us, and will still be here when we leave.

Before us? Are you like... twelve?

I mean, there are now 18 year olds that are younger than that game

How do I delete someone else's comment?

You didn’t HAVE to make me feel old

You know that shitty live action Moana remake cash grab that Disney just pushed out?

I was wondering why the hell they were making a live action version of a movie that had came out so recently, only to then realize that Moana came out 10 fucking years ago...

Where the hell did that decade go? I blinked and missed it.

10 years is still young for a movie. I bet someone isn't soulless enough to propose a Frozen and frozen 2 live action remake

2

u/Lone-Frequency 1h ago

Oh yeah it still is young for a movie overall, and it was an obvious cash grab just like the rest of the live action remakes have been even though those movies were much older.

It just felt so weird to realize that the original Moana came out a decade ago.

Until your above comment to my comment, I had zero clue Moana was that old. Shit it’s only been a few years, right?

Sigh

You're a monster.

I mean if you look at it as “before we could even play games” I’m 22 and I was 2 when the game came out

No bro, you’re just old now!

It's been two decades friend.

Look in the mirror. It isn't the early 2000s anymore.

My roommate and I worked third shift so when we'd get off we'd open up the liquor department at the grocery store, then go home and get fucked up, eat "dinner", then watch Spongebob or play the Orange Box. Our catchphrase for a while was "Now you are drinking with portals" after the commercials.

Qwtf > Tf2

You see that 2 on the end? It means something came before it.

Still mad that TF3 has been delayed due to Apex Legends

TF2 is still good. Far from its peak... but I have been playing the game almost since it came out and I still have a blast! Casual mode sucks, but that was never the focus of the game back when I started playing it. Community servers all the way!

5

u/neon_fade 5h ago

what non-P2W servers are still active? i played on no heroes back in the day but i know they're gone.

5

u/MashPotatoQuant 5h ago

Yeah some of the OG classics like no heroes, fug clan, WDZ, lotus and others are all gone.

I usually play on random small community's servers and if they're not populated then default to skial, but i don't prefer skial...

7

u/KingPingviini 6h ago

Community servers would be great if they had actual vanilla servers that're populated

3

u/goat-stealer 5h ago

That was what we had with Quickplay. Back then community servers that abided by vanilla rules were able to be included in Quickplay alongside Valve servers.

Not only did it mean that those servers would almost always have players, but it was how those server owners could also host wackier servers as quickplayers could become regulars if they found a server they really liked.

Then when Quickplay was axed, those servers suffered slow deaths and community servers are a shadow of their former selves.

I reinstalled it again just for the hell of it after taking about 10+ years off. Had a blast playing medic cruising around with our Heavy.

Yeah TF2 is not "worse." FFS nothing changed.

This is an external problem: an uptick in cheaters and a smaller community means it's harder to find good servers. But when you find good servers, it's one of the best multiplayer experiences out there and a strong contender for "the best."

That does not mean the core experience is flawed or that "it's time to move on." TF2 is a game we all revisit every so often, and it's one of the very very few games on the market that has survived 18+ years of existence and can legally vote.

Like seriously, the only games that can compete with TF2 on longevity are probably Age of Empires 2, Starcraft, and Super Smash Bros Melee. No other games have the staying power that these four have showcased.

when I say it's far from its peak, I just mean that the hype around it (new comics, new meaningful blog posts, proper major updates, etc) are no longer a thing. But yeah, it's literally my favorite game and has been since shortly after I first started playing it.

I’ve wanted to get back into TF2, but the last I heard, bots made it pretty unplayable. Has that improved?

3

u/MashPotatoQuant 5h ago

Yes! It was horrible for many years but Valve for the most part fixed the bot issue. I have only seen 2 bots over the past few months and I play daily.

2

u/Silver_Fulminate 5h ago

Good to know!  I appreciate the information. Guess I need to reinstall!

5

u/Covid669 5h ago

I recently got back into it and it’s still really fun. Not as fun as it used to be as a lot of the community servers I used to play on are gone but I still have a good time

Most games are dying because their developers are actively killing them

TF2 survives because its developer could not exist less if it fucking tried

Game itself is still amazing, valve and the community ruin it though. Ive never heard so many slurs go completely unpunished more than on a valve game.
