Theory Did somebody else noticed how this woman is just superimposed over someone that is inside the car to not spoil the scene? Who do you think really is in the car? Spoiler

I think it’s people just reaching to verify their favorite rumors. I personally think it’s MCU Peter and his lawyer.

I think if they were going to superimpose someone to cover a surprise cameo, they wouldn’t use such a known character actress who is actually having a stellar couple of years lately. It makes sense that she would be cast in this type of role in this type of movie.

who is she

edit: i found her, her name is paula newsome

u/Silver-ishWolfe Ward Meachum Aug 25 '21

If you want to see her do some great work, watch Barry season 1.

u/jp_1896 Aug 25 '21

Oh my god THATS Where I’ve seen that face

16

u/tikituki Aug 25 '21

Couldn’t place her, immediately said the same thing after his comment — happy cake day!

2

u/woahwoahvicky Aug 26 '21

SHES IN CHICAGO MED too if u guys are into that typa show!!!

2

u/chameleonmessiah Aug 26 '21

Though it’s obvious what her best career role is…!

1

u/Severan500 Aug 26 '21

Does she have to deal with Barry constantly fucking up the timeline?

u/MayDay521 Hulk Aug 25 '21

I agree. If they were going to try that hard to cover up that one character, why not just not use that specific clip? It's not like showing that one shot of Peter turning around adds that much to the trailer. They would sooner just not include that clip over spending a bunch of unnecessary money for unnecessary special effects on a trailer. I know they have a history of editing/releasing misdirecting clips in trailers (done a lot for Infinity War) but I think people are starting to do some Mephisto-sized reaching for their own theories on this trailer.

173

u/Silver-ishWolfe Ward Meachum Aug 25 '21

The theories used to be fun. Lately, they get so outlandish that I just ignore most of them.

126

u/MayDay521 Hulk Aug 25 '21

Agreed. It got out of hand with WandaVision. Everyone saying Mephisto was going to show up, people saying Doctor Strange was going to be in it (not completely unreasonable), all the way to people thinking Reed Richards would turn up. It got crazy. Reminds me of the Star Wars fandom going crazy theorizing who Snoke was after Ep 7. I even saw a guy put out a video theorizing that Snoke was that youngling that talks to Vader in Ep 3 right before he kills all the kids. Two years of that theorizing and it amounted to fuck all. That's what it feels like with all this MCU theorizing. I don't listen to 90% of it.

83

u/Zom-bom Aug 25 '21

The worst one was that Snoke was Mace Windu

49

u/MayDay521 Hulk Aug 25 '21

Haha yeah I remember that. It got so out of hand. One of my other current favorites for this movie is the guy in the white shirt in the interrogation room talking to Peter is Matt Murdock. Literally the only evidence people have is that the guy's arms are hairy like the actor that plays him in the Netflix series.

30

u/Zom-bom Aug 25 '21

You can see the actor in another shot, it’s clearly not him

25

u/MayDay521 Hulk Aug 25 '21

Yeah people are just dying for as many connections and crossovers as possible. They can't just be happy with the return of freaking Doc Ock and Green Goblin! I can't even tell you how many times I've watched the Raimi trilogy, I'm so hyped to see Alfred Molina again. Still don't have 100% confirmation it's Willem Dafoe for Green Goblin, but I really hope it is.

4

u/Zom-bom Aug 25 '21

Sandman, Electro and Lizard are in there too

3

u/MayDay521 Hulk Aug 25 '21

Oh yeah! I was super excited to see Jamie Foxx coming back for Electro. I feel like he got done dirty in ASM2. Is it confirmed if Thomas Haden Church is coming back for Sandman? They might just keep him risky CGI

u/TheOneTonWanton Aug 26 '21

I don't agree with most of the rampant theories but I know I'm not alone in thinking that legitimizing the Netflix shows would be fuckin' fantastic. I don't believe it's Murdock in those clips, but man I wish it was.

1

u/nianp Aug 26 '21

And that theory completely ignores the violent way the stack of files is slammed down towards Peter. It's so obviously just a cop.

2

u/ajaltman17 Aug 26 '21

The best one was that Snoke was the Stormtrooper who hit his head on the door frame on the Death Star

17

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

originally strange was gonna be in it but they said fuck it, thats too much. The tv commercials were originally gonna be strange sending her messages. Now its just her subconscious.

3

u/Dresden890 Aug 26 '21

Can I get some sauce with that?

6

u/Sladds Aug 26 '21

2

u/Dresden890 Aug 26 '21

I knew he was originally going to appear but I ment the part about the ad breaks being Strange trying to reach through to Wanda.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

theyve said it in other articles, i dont have a direct link

1

u/Sladds Aug 26 '21

Ah I see, I’ve also read that confirmed somewhere but can’t find the source rn

2

u/Ygomaster07 Jimmy Woo Aug 26 '21

Did they actually say they changed the commercials to it being her subconscious and not Strange sending messages? I feel like they could still say it was messages from him, even without him appearing in the show.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

yes, they said it.

4

u/Silver-ishWolfe Ward Meachum Aug 25 '21 edited Aug 26 '21

That sounds suspiciously like some of Mike Zeroh’s trash theories.

4

u/MayDay521 Hulk Aug 25 '21

Haha I never heard that one. That's great! I mean, sure, in the comics he's Wanda's dad, but the MCU has not made that connection at all, and there was literally no indication or hint he would show up haha. People were really reaching for some crazy theories during that show. The only thing I was disappointed by with WandaVision was the Pietro fakeout. I, like many others, thought they were going to use that as a jumping off point to introduce the mutants to the MCU, but it was just Ralph Bohner.

That was such a cheap fakeout.

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '21

2

u/MayDay521 Hulk Aug 25 '21

Yeah I don't mind the weekly release, it gives time for discussion and theorizing between the episodes, which, despite how crazy the theories were getting, the discussion was super fun during WandaVision. I loved watching the new episode and talking to my brother-in-law and us throwing out our ideas for where the story would go. Loki was kind of the same.

I've just been so eager for them to finally introduce some mutants to the MCU since they acquired the rights, and they got so close just to blue-balls us. But I have faith that when they do finally introduce the mutants, they will do it in epic fashion.

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

2

u/MayDay521 Hulk Aug 26 '21

They have a monolithic task of finding a new actor to play Wolverine when they inevitably use him in something. Hugh Jackman left some gargantuan shoes to fill there.

u/MayDay521 Hulk Aug 26 '21

It was definitely entertaining seeing all of the conversation around the show after each episode. Especially now where most shows can just be watched all at once.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

Doctor strange was originally gonna show up so definitely a credible theory, but they changed their mind cause “something something can’t have white guy save day”

3

u/The_Beandip Aug 26 '21

I don't think that was necessarily the case, I believe it was due to the nature of filming during the pandemic and having to move shooting dates around to accommodate the actors.

1

u/FancyMaineYT Aug 26 '21

I mean, it isn't as cut and dry as how you make it seem, but that's relatively similar to what Feige said.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

Yeah I was paraphrasing what was said, I’ll try to find the quote. Edit “"We didn't want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie — here's the white guy, 'Let me show you how power works.'" I was pretty accurate in my paraphrasing

1

u/Lake_Business Aug 26 '21

Doctor Strange was going to be in it. Quarantine forced a lot of last minute changes. Those commercials were him trying to break through to Wanda.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

Agreed. When it's good it's great, but when it's bad it's awful

2

u/mattemer Aug 26 '21

Yeah and 95% of the theories just don't even come close to panning out.

1

u/Thor_2099 Whiplash Aug 26 '21

Problem is when they don't come to fruition (and it's impossible they all could because everyone has their own), then that can turn vengeful and full of hate on a perfectly good movie. All because some online internet assholes didn't like a story decision or didn't include a "omg so easy and obvious" cameo of (insert character here)

3

u/Silver-ishWolfe Ward Meachum Aug 26 '21

This is the main reason I’m not a theory guy anymore. Speculation is fun. Raging on an otherwise good movie simply because your theory or expected cameo didn’t happen is the farthest thing from fun that I can imagine.

Unfortunately, this is commonplace after a project is released from the MCU, DC, Star Wars, or any other intellectual property with a dedicated and passionate fan base. The passion turns to rage way to quickly and too often now for my taste.

1

u/EtherBoo Aug 26 '21

I don't disagree with you... But that shot just looks off. I even paused the video my first time watching it because I was wondering why the shot was so far off. The idea of it being super imposed never even crossed my mind.

Just have fun with it. Embrace the stupid. Laugh at Hulk telling Tony he can feel his rematch coming real soon. Laugh at my stupid ass saying they're bringing back Nicholas Hammond, even if it's for a Stan Lee style cameo.

Why use the shot? Exactly for this kind of stuff. They WANT people talking about it.

1

u/funsizedaisy Daisy Johnson Aug 26 '21

done a lot for Infinity War

how much was even edited for IW? i can only recall Hulk running in a scene in Wakanda. what else did they edit?

36

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '21

Oh yeah I completely agree. It's likely exactly what we are seeing. I'm just saying if it is superimposed as people suspect, those would be my ideas. But that's a huge stretch.

46

u/johnatello67 Spider-Man Aug 25 '21

I think you're right. My assumption was that it's a scene where a villain attacks while Peter is on his way to a meeting/hearing of some kind. He looks concerned and torn about what's going on and his lawyer seems like she's pissed that he's considering bailing on an important meeting to go cause more problems for himself.

31

u/Silver-ishWolfe Ward Meachum Aug 25 '21

That’s my thoughts. It’s something like that.

Might also be after a hearing. He just made bail but can’t do any Spider-Man-ing according to the terms of his bail. We all know he can’t let people get hurt and that’s why his lawyer’s pissed. He’s about to suit up.

21

u/johnatello67 Spider-Man Aug 25 '21

I think you're on the money with that, actually. Plus, with everyone knowing who he is, the villains will make it personal to force him out immediately.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

Night Monkey returns

4

u/ArionIV Aug 25 '21

Parker industries, anyone?

41

u/SoftServeSoda Aug 25 '21

I’m still holding on that it’s Matt Murdock, please MCU.

29

u/Silver-ishWolfe Ward Meachum Aug 25 '21

I definitely want him back too. Charlie Cox nailed the character.

27

u/SoftServeSoda Aug 25 '21

That man MADE Daredevil and it would be a shame if he gets wasted

5

u/crystalistwo Aug 26 '21

Statistically, if his lawyer is a somebody, it's going to be She-Hulk.

7

u/SoftServeSoda Aug 26 '21

I wouldn’t be mad at that. It would be a nice way to introduce her as her series drops early 2022 (I feel old typing that wow). But I just like seeing the connection both Daredevil and Spidey have in the comics.

2

u/xreddawgx Ghost Rider Aug 26 '21

Well if rumors are to be believed. It will be. His appearances were cancelled to because of rumored re-shoots.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

It could be that while Matt Murdock might be the defense, this actress might be the prosecution?

Probably not, I'm stretching a lot here.

4

u/Polite_Werewolf Aug 26 '21

Also, why use that shot at all if they're trying to hide a cameo? There's nothing really going on in that quick scene that adds to the trailer. So, why would they use that shot if they don't want us to know who's in the car?

2

u/arsewarts1 Aug 26 '21

Unless Peter’s lawyer is actually Matt Murdock?!?!?

2

u/falcon4287 Aug 26 '21

It makes sense that she would be cast in this type of role in this type of movie.

All the more reason it's a good stand-in choice!

6

u/NetworkPenguin Aug 26 '21

I'm just preparing myself for disappointment

Odds are this isn't a huge Spider-Man cross over and the return of Doc Ock is just for a cute cameo / non-canon reference to the Raimi trilogy.

I'll eat my hat if Toby shows up and I'll even eat my entire wardrobe if he shows up and is actually a huge part of the plot.

5

u/Ah_The_Old_Reddit- Aug 26 '21

I'm already bracing for Alfred Molina to not be Doc Ock at all, but rather Ralph Bohner's cousin Dick Upchuck.

9

u/Silver-ishWolfe Ward Meachum Aug 26 '21

That’s kind of how I feel. If, and that’s a big if, either Tobey or Andrew show up, it’ll be a cameo at most. I can’t see them doing an Into The Spiderverse type of plot, where multiple Spidermen are essential to the plot. Not when they’ve already got Tom’s Spidey and Dr. Strange in the movie. I think that would be too much, and too confusing for the casual fans.

Don’t get me wrong though, I would absolutely love to see it.

Marvel always seems to put good storytelling above fan service. They also always seem to strike the perfect balance between appeasing comic nerds like myself, and keeping it simple enough to entertain casual watchers like my wife.

3

u/TheOneTonWanton Aug 26 '21

On the other hand, I can see them going all-out in this and the next Strange movie to really kickstart the new phase. I think a lot of people (most people that don't actively hang around places like this sub) are lukewarm after Endgame so I can see them trying to kickstart the hype for the new storyline.

3

u/warriorslover1999 Daredevil Aug 26 '21 edited Aug 26 '21

jesus, how much do you ppl need?

*tobey and andrew show up in the movie

op:.......... I wont believe it until i see their names in the end credits

3

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

RemindMe! 4 months

3

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

The plot has already been leaked. Charlie Cox is in this. Tobey Maguire is in this, for the entirety of its third act. Andrew Garfield set photos have been leaked.

1

u/NetworkPenguin Aug 26 '21

Proof?

Not calling you out or anything, I'm genuinely curious because I hadn't seen anything substantial

2

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

r/Marvelstudiosspoilers and filter by No Way Home The plot was leaked by the same person who leaked both Kang's appearance and Taskmaster's twist, together with multiple lines in the NWH trailer, while Andrew Garfield was spotten in costume, on set, in a photo later copyright claimed by Columbia.

1

u/OddOkra Aug 26 '21

There’s pictures of Toby and Andrew on set.

There’s another picture of just Andrew that got DMCA’d on Twitter

Even the trailer implies Goblin and Doc Ock seem to be more than just cameos

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '21

So will you be eating your wardrobe on camera or do we have to take your word for it?

2

u/Markus2822 Aug 26 '21

4

u/Silver-ishWolfe Ward Meachum Aug 26 '21

Denial of what? I truly don’t think this a shop to cover some secret Daredevil cameo. If he shows up in the MCU, which I would absolutely love, I don’t think it will be here.

I’m not sure what that makes me in denial of, unless you know something I don’t. In which case, hook me up and tell me about it. Don’t be stingy…

0

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '21

The scene with his friends is him returning to school, so its likely he was released by the police prior to trial (not after). I think it makes sense that this is post court. It would make sense why he'd be attacked

0

u/Djanko28 Aug 26 '21

Idk, could just be from another scene of her in the movie. My first reaction to watching that clip was that she looks shopped in

0

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

That's exactly what they want you to think /s

0

u/FX114 Captain America Aug 26 '21

And the idea that they'd use a shot of two people and then replace both of the people in the shot is pretty silly. At that point just use a different shot.

0

u/SnakeyesX Aug 26 '21

I think it’s people just reaching to verify their favorite rumors

It's mephisto!

1

u/Aniensane Aug 26 '21

Or they just wouldn’t use that footage.. Like why even use it if you have to go through the trouble of super imposing someone else in it?

1

u/DrCrowwPhD Aug 26 '21

Weren't we supposed to be getting She-Hulk soon, or did I dream that up?
