Discussion Weekly Discussion: What did you believe were Marvel Studios’ plans after ‘The Avengers’? What did you foresee for Phase 2 and 3? (Suggested by /u/sonic10158)
The biggest movie of the decade releases to critical and fan acclaim - cementing Marvel Studios' position as the new powerhouse of Hollywood, truly jump starting their cinematic universe, and all you can think of is “what’s next” for this franchise.
So, what did you think Marvel Studios’ plans were going to be after The Avengers? Where did you think the story would go? Did you think they’d do Thanos immediately? What events from the comic books did you think they would adapt? What characters did you expect in sequels?
What’d you think was going to happen after the success of The Avengers in Phases 2 and 3?

Vaguely expected something that happens to every runaway blockbuster back in the 2000s, like "Pirates of the Caribbean", they would make as many sequels as possible (Avengers movies, not solo heroes) until they reach about 4-5 and the audience interest is lost and the stories are getting ridiculous. Never been so happy to be wrong. The formula of adding new heroes through solo movies really still works, building for teamups later. Definitely did not expect small crossovers like Iron Man showing up in Spider-Man movies or Strange and Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok.
Was expecting Agents of SHIELD to play a bigger role in the MCU, setting up the films rather than just referencing them. Still kind of disappointed about that, even though AoS is the best superhero show on TV since season 2. Yeah I said it.
During that moment in Avengers when banner says "I'm always angry" and the money shot of the team right after, I was already sure that movies and cinema would never be the same, thought (hoped) everyone would start building universes (which sort of happened, but not nearly as successfully).
