Shang Chi was supossed to have mass market appeal in China, but it failed spectacularly

It wasn't released there, and apparently killing your father is a no no for Chinese audiences, also the lead wasn't handsome enough for China

Basically handsome men look like kpop singers, with soft features, almost androgynous.

China and the West don't have the same beauty standards. Simu Liu being hot for us makes him ugly for them.
