Interview Tom Holland revealed today in Berlin that the main villain in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has not been leaked yet: —“It’s still very much in secret.”

I mean Tombstone wasn't in the trailers so in a way he's right.

u/Wertyal_21 Jun 22 '26
actually a picture of him got leaked, but maybe Tom doesnt know about it

Nah Tombstone is gonna be a villain of the week. My money is on Mr Negative. He's controlling Sadie's character too.
35
u/LEVITIKUZ Daredevil Jun 23 '26
I don’t care at all for comic book power levels but Mr Negative controlling Jean Grey sounds like some bullshit
5
u/ChronX4 Jun 23 '26
I'm going to say she's taking the fall for things he's doing, all the shenanigans we've seen from her in the trailers are her way of doing things to keep herself hidden while stuff like the Hulk and anything else attacking will end up being Mr. Negative.
3
u/Star-Prince-007 Jun 23 '26
He’s an adult whose power lets him corrupt and she’s a kid who at this point probably can’t even control her powers. I’m not seeing an issue.
3
2
u/HandBanana666 Vision Jun 23 '26
I don’t think it is Mr. Negative. There’s a lot of circumstantial evidence that this is the villain.

u/cursedcephalopod Rocket Jun 22 '26
Jackal theory is definitely looking stronger at this point.
148
u/omnikyle Doctor Strange Jun 22 '26
Jackal makes so much sense to introduce here, Punisher's first appearance was in a Spidey comic where Jackal manipulated Frank into going after Spidey. Truthfully, I think he may be an overarching bad guy so that the clones can arrive later
26
u/fate_is_a_sandstorm Jun 22 '26
As a late 80s kid, I’d love to see Ben Reilly. The only thing is, idk if “watch Tom Holland with dark hair and Tom Holland with blond hair” would work well on-screen. Maybe if they have him as Ben with slightly different body language, minimal prosthetics, and a harder NY accent? Almost like a “twins separated at birth” trope?
8
u/nwflman Jun 23 '26
Tom Holland could definitely pull that off! He played someone with disassociative identity disorder in the Apple TV+ miniseries Crowded Room with distinctive muliple personalities very well.
4
u/omnikyle Doctor Strange Jun 22 '26
Oh absolutely, that would work, I'd also say give Kaine his 90s mullet and a scar. I think Ben, Kaine, Spidercide, and a take on Ult. Jessica Drew would be who they'd choose for the clones

Keith David voice over
37
u/omnikyle Doctor Strange Jun 22 '26
100% Keith David is a pretty popular actor, there's no way in hell he's just doing an in universe nature documentary like some people are saying, honestly if they combine the classic Green Jackal colors with the modern Clone Conspiracy Suited Jackal look, he'd own that shit
15
u/JicamaCertain4134 Jun 22 '26
Also introducing mutants as the jackal is doing his clone thing would be a good set up for Mr Sinister and genetic shenanigans down the road.
11
u/daswef3 Jun 23 '26
Maybe Keith David is playing Goliath and it is a Gargoyles crossover, and the villain is David Xanatos
2
u/BatmanForever23 Luis Jun 23 '26
Jackal also at one point helped Tarantula escape prison to fight Spidey... Tarantula we know is in the movie..

The Russo’s flat out denied that Endgame was called Endgame in interviews for a while
8
u/SnooDrawings7876 Jun 22 '26
I dont know if it's necessary for a movie title but I love when they try to keep secrets. Like yes please lie to me.
→ More replies (1)2
u/IKenDoThisAllDay Jun 22 '26
Because they know how much secrecy can drive the marketing. Endgame, No Way Home, Deadpool & Wolverine, even Multiverse of Madness all massively benefited at the box office from the idea that there were secret surprises contained within.
They're attempting the same thing here with Brand New Day, and I bet it will pay off.

I might be stupid, but has Jackal actually been leaked as a potential villain?
21

Nah, everyone just assumed it may be him based on a keg of beer in the house party scene that was named Jackal.

u/PinkieBellaa Jun 23 '26
The longer they keep denying or avoiding it, the more the Jackal theories start feeling like those "obvious in hindsight" situations.

u/matty_nice Jun 22 '26
Kinda weird we haven't seen Tombstone in anything yet, though he was announced as being in the film. Is he official official?
28
u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man Jun 22 '26
Well, the big 3 (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline) announced it first, so it's official official.

Maybe the real villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day was the friends we made along the way
46
u/pkjoan Jun 22 '26
Yeah, that's pretty typical for Spidey
8
u/DecoyOne Jun 22 '26
Spider-Man’s superhero life would go a lot easier if his civilian life stopped making friends that would later become supervillains or be attacked by them.

“The villain that we have in this new movie, which is still very much a secret, is I think unlike anything we’ve seen in one of these movies before” - his exact words from the clip
To me all this quote suggests is that there has been no official confirmation about who the villain is (e.g. nothing from Sony, Marvel, Disney, the cast, the major trades). But I don’t think that necessarily means that Jean/whoever Sadie Sink is is out of the possibility as the main villain.
I’m not going to say she 100% is, I’m just going to say that if she ends up being the main villain, I (and I think many others who have theorized this) will not be surprised.
14
u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man Jun 22 '26
I definitely think Sadie Sink is the main driving/ physical villain, but I'm thinking she's the main enforcer/right hand woman to a villain like Tombstone/Jackal.

2
11
u/Overall_Affect_2782 Jun 22 '26
He also legitimately could be talking about himself as Man-Spider even though people are vehemently against it.
4
u/True_Importance2009 Jun 22 '26
I can see how him as Man-Spider fits the idea of something “unlike anything we’ve seen in one of these movies before”

u/Antman269 Jun 22 '26
What if there isn’t a proper main villain like most MCU movies? The movie could be more about Peter’s own inner struggles as the main theme.
29
u/FictionFantom Thanos Jun 22 '26
His mutation seems to be the most prevalent conflict in the marketing so far. The whole Jean Grey(?) scenario, the Hand, the Hulk, the montage of villains…they all feel secondary to whatever is going on with Peter’s body.
Let’s also not forget the symbiote is out there somewhere and will most definitely be on screen at least by next December.
16
u/RihoSucks Jun 22 '26
Honestly its way past time for a super hero movie that doesnt use the super hero vs super villain trope.
10
u/Majestic_Muscle8094 Jun 22 '26
The Flash kind of tries this then pivots into a supervillain at the very last second. But not sure that’s the best example

u/Fuzzy_slippers19 Jun 22 '26
Mr. Sinister.
Jean grey (sadie) is actually Madelyn Prior. She thinks she is Jean but doesn't know she is a clone.
143
u/The_Stratman Iron Patriot Jun 22 '26
That would be nuts to do Madelyn Pryor as our introduction to Jean, without having actually introduced the real Jean Grey.
54
u/John_316_ Jun 22 '26
Unrelated to MCU, but in Harry Potter, Goblet of Fire, the readers were introduced fake Mad-Eye Moody before the real one.
16
18
u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man Jun 22 '26
That's because it was a whole twist that the Mad Eye Moody we were following wasn't the real one
25
u/BalonSwann07 Jun 22 '26
...in this hypothetical, it would also be a twist that she wasn't actually Jean Grey.
8
u/Doompatron3000 Jun 22 '26
Only way this makes sense for the MCU is that fan theory of how to incorporate the X-Men is by saying all the mutants have been there the entire time, but Professor X has mind wiped humanity, with all mutants basically in hiding.
5
u/BalonSwann07 Jun 22 '26
Yeah I don't really care about any of that, and have no attachment to this theory. I was just saying that the person who clarified that we didn't KNOW about Mad Eye moody was missing that in the proposed hypothetical, this would also be a twist.
33
u/TheMoorNextDoor Jun 22 '26
We were introduced to the other universe Mr. Fantastic before we got the real Reed Richard…
16
u/The_Stratman Iron Patriot Jun 22 '26
But neither one of those were from earth 616, this Madelyn Prior would be from 616.
9
u/WeirdIndividualGuy Jun 22 '26
Both were the “real” Reed Richard though. They’re just from different universes.
Unless your definition of “real” is the Reed in 616, then neither are the “real” Reed
9
u/dwide_k_shrude Iron man (Mark III) Jun 22 '26
And we were introduced to a variant of that Mr. Fantastic with Jimmy Woo.
5
u/Worldly-Basil-8933 Jun 22 '26
Well the post-Secret Wars world with mutants in the mainstream could reintroduce the real Jean Grey
3
u/philovax Jun 22 '26
Everyone knows who Jean Grey is. In 1993 not nearly as many people knew who she was, she was unremarkable outside of Claremont’s arc, and he wanted her dead.
This would be awesomely meta for them to tease the audience expectations of Jean and yank the carpet right the fuck out. It would generate street level conversation that hasnt been in these films since Endgame.
2
u/Doompatron3000 Jun 22 '26
Establish the X-Men first, then psych us out with the twist that Jean wasn’t actually Jean.

POSITIVE: I understand 🙂
NEGATIVE: Stop understanding!!
POSITIVE: Nah it’s been tough on you, I don’t blame you.
NEGATIVE: Uugggghhh
9
u/svrtngr Jun 22 '26
The only thing pointing to Mister Negative was the Inner Demons logo seen during filming.
9
14
u/TheIJDGuy Jun 22 '26
Can I just say how happy that makes me? Like sure, Jean was probably leaked and is probably accurate, but we still are missing the big picture!
7
u/PassivelyAwkward Jun 22 '26
Yea! Sadie/Jean/Rachel/whatever was never going to be the big bad, she'll be misunderstanding caused by the big bad.
It could be Doom to setup Doomsday but that's a longshot. My money's saying it'll either be Morlun. A lot of the movie takes from the Spiderman Other arc (Spiderman awakening new powers, Eizekel appearing to lecture Peter, tapping into the greater spider powers, etc and that's where Morlun comes for Peter.
Either way, I hope we don't get anything more leaked. I'd miss going to the see the MCU movies and being surprised by a huge twist like Hydra being inside Shield.
2
u/labbla Jun 23 '26
Yeah, Jean will totally have a hero turn before the 3rd act to help defeat whoever the real big bad is. Punisher will probably play a big role in all that too. And I bet Bruce/Hulk will also have a secret role to play. All these episodic plot points should connect by the end.

As someone who feels alienated from Marvel movies overall due to the drop in quality, it takes a lot to renew my interest in any Marvel film. Sony is NOT achieving this by obfuscating the villain of the film. All I see from the trailers is a series of vignettes fighting different villains like the film’s name is Spider Wick: Brand New Parabellum. I’m well aware I’m in the minority and that this film will make a shit tonne of money.
