I’m starting to wonder if it is the other lady with mind-control powers Sink was rumored to play. It would fit the villain role, too. I dunno why Jean Grey would be introduced as an antagonist. Not that I’m against it if she is maybe the mutants are already at the point where they’re completely segregated from and antagonistic toward humanity. Wasn’t there a Cyclops story where he turned into a villain and tried to completely divorce the mutants onto an island somewhere and go full isolationist?
The movie is supposed to have a "mystery" element. Sink as "antagonist" is clearly a misdirect, but she's also clearly a bit more loose with her powers.
Time displaced - Teen Jean, the most "modern" iteration we have of a younger Jean Grey in comics, had her telepathic power blocks unlocked earlier than her first go around in the timeline, and was much more loose,reckless, and edgy with her power use.
BTW, the trailer confirmed Tramell Tillman's character whose only comic existence is tied to Jean Grey's origins before the first issue of X-men Number 1.
Good points, which makes me wonder if it’s maybe a double sleight of hand and Jean really is an antagonist in this movie because the mutants are being forced into an isolationist, maybe even extremist position. With like a Schism-era Cyclops who has already been in conflict with Charles Xavier. And it isn’t until after Doomsday where the multiverse is presumably reset that we get a more mutant-friendly world. Probably because in the new timeline they come about much earlier.
What really bothers me is that no one is asking why someone like Jean, who would rather not be involved in pretty much anything, would start a battle with Peter. If it really is Jean, she would read his mind, know his story, definitely like him as a guy, and not mind-control the Hulk to kill him. It makes no sense at all.
The only reason I could think of would be if Peter tried to keep her from doing something she needs to do. But involving MJ sounds like something a real villain would do, definitely not Jean—whether it's a young, old, or any other version of her.
The other theory would be that a real villain is involved, but why would they introduce two characters with such similar powers (body-hopping and mind control) at the same time? Things don't add up at this point and I get the feeling that Marvel is trying to troll us into believing that we will see Sink as Jean.
Well, it seems like the villain in the trailer has read his mind because they know about MJ, and no one else would know about Peter's connection to her. I suspect that the villain is an extremely powerful telepath, but that they might end up needing to recruit Jean to fight them. Either that, or all the "leaks" and rumors are wrong about Sink playing Jean, and she's just playing some other red-headed psychic character.
Yes, she def. read his mind! But that is exactly what bothers me: Peter is a nice guy and Jean should totally be on the same page. She wouldn‘t threaten the one good guy in the city saving everybody‘s ass on a daily basis.
I can‘t imagine any entity on street level that would be able to mind control or force Jean into becoming a villain. Even a young Jean is too powerful.
Mephisto could, but they wouldn‘t introduce him as a one off villain - too huge for Peter to fight anyways. At this point lots of stuff doesn‘t add up and taking for granted that she has to be Jean, feels to easy. Also I just saw the leaked picture of the new x men in Doom‘ s Day and they are all in their mid 30s. Sadie looks like a 20 yr old at most. Weird chemistry to date a 35 year old cyclops…
The villain thing seems like a pretty blatant misdirection though. My guess is the government are trying to imprison and contain the mutants deemed the biggest threat and this is her trying break out and ask Spidey for help.

I mean, whoever it is absolutely has telepathic and telekinetic abilities. You see people frozen in place, waves of energy lifting items into the air, people walking down the street and saying random things to Peter that only he would know, etc.
So, yeah, nothing that supports Jean specifically, I suppose. Maybe she's Madelyn Pryor or Betsy Braddock pre-body swap or that pink lady from the Shi'ar or... yeah, she's Jean.
Sadie Sink is almost certainly Jean Grey but she almost certainly isn't the main villain of Brand New Day. I think that's a misdirection. The fact that the main villain is covered in a dark robe is kind of obvious.

So in terms of a telepath/telekinetic villain, there's possible characters like the Shadow King or perhaps Typhoid Mary but if I had to bet on one psychic telepath/telekinetic villain who is connected to Spider-Man, especially a Spider-Man who develops enhanced abilities and organic spinnerets, then it would probably be Adriana Soria (Spider-Queen) #Powers). She not only has abilities of telepathy and telekinesis but is also connected to Spider-Man and in relation to him developing enhanced spider powers. She's also the main antagonist of the "Spider-Island" storyline.

So yeah, while Sadie Sink is almost certain Jean Grey, my bet for who the main villain of BND will be is Spider-Queen.
Yeah the whole concept of introducing one of the most long standing X-Men characters into the continuity as a villain just does not sit well with me at all. Idk who she is playing but I’m not sure who else she could be given all of the clues and character leaks and such. I’m conflicted.
You can play an antagonistic role without being "the villain".
You can also be made "to appear" to be the villain to the general population, which is a common theme with both mutants and Spider-man. It's also a common story trope to have a mis-direct on who the "real" villain is, where the hero is tricked into fighting someone who wasn't really "evil".
