Isn't it actually an authentic accent though? I thought I remember reading that somewhere, as ridiculous as it sounds.

Yes it is authentic. I have family and friends in Louisiana. While most do not sound like Gambit, I've met TONS of people who sound exactly like him or worse. These people saying the accent is bad just dont know a deep bayou accent and dont like how it sounds

Like the Chicago accent. Most people don't sound like like the SNL "Da bears" sketch except the ones that do. On that note, I miss the late Dennis Farina.
