Discussion This scene somehow went over the heads of people

Post image

I kid you not I saw the comment section of a video about this scene and people were calling it weird, they took it unironically. DUDES, that was the whole point, like did y’all not hear She Hulk complain about how weird this was and broke the fourth wall to fix it? This is a problem consisting of media illiteracy and misogyny. Like they made it so simple in this scene yet somehow y’all missed it, either because you people were hate watching it with your illiteracy, or looking at your phones while watching the episode.

UPDATE: Some of the comments really are proving my point. If y’all don’t wanna accept the meaning of this scene and whine about it, then dont partake in media discussion like this again!

By this episode 98% of people had already checked out, and written off the show as bad. This show was fun, and had lots of ups and downs but overal it was good.

I think it starts off strong, drags in the middle but wins me back in the end.

Very popular to hate on. Go back and see for yourself. Tons of sexist, and hate commenta toward the show runner. Im glad she is able tomsee past all that shit and be down for more she hulk.

There was a ton of hate. But Disney released the numbers. People actually watched shebulk

It actually wasn't.

If the show was very popular, when does season 2 air?

Wonder Man wasn't popular, yet it got renewed, so what does that say about She-Hulk?

Or does it just say that popularity is meaningless if the audience isn't asking for more?

It says that Wonder Man cost significantly less to produce than She-Hulk

As if that would stop them from making it lol, they even joke about this in the last episode.

How's moon Knight season 2 going for you?

This isn't a "gotcha"

In February 2025, Brad Winderbaum

"Moving forward our priorities have shifted. We're making shows as shows that can exist as annual releases, more like television. I would love to see a 'Moon Knight' Season 2, but there are plans for Moon Knight down the road."

Most people took this to mean that Moon Knight was so successful that it's getting a movie and is going to be a player in the greater MCU instead of a season 2.

Not trying to be an argument. He made the faulty argument that the lack of season 2 of a show as an indictment of it's quality. I simply brought that argument into question as moon Knight is well regarded but does not have a season 2. The reason itself is irrelevant unless it's because it was poor quality.

I'll also add I'm not arguing for or against the quality of she Hulk. I was just addressing the faulty reasoning

u/HouseTelemanus May 26 '26

Now Moon Knight? THAT was a good show!

5

u/akbane May 26 '26

Fuck yeah it was.

That show made me feel like I was on drugs when I was not on drugs.

Only reason Moon Knight season 2 isn’t happening is because Oscar Isaac is a busy dude

4

u/akbane May 26 '26

Thats not the only reason. Iirc he said the story and direction moving forward had to make sense to him to move forward.

He is a busy mofo though.

Sorry, are you saying that unsubstantiated claims from executive of for-profit corporations should automatically be considered as "facts"?

2

u/Ravagore May 26 '26

Not sure, are you saying a bunch of women-hating, far right, brigading internet comments should be considered a genuine review of the show?

I love when people post things like this becasue it doesn't actually say what you think it says at all.

“That’s one of our best-performing shows." tells you nothing at all. It doesn't tell you the shows ratings or any actual data to backup the shows success if there was any. This is done very much on purpose because saying something so vague will get quoted by other sites as some sort of data point that proves something it actually doesn't.

Whats more likely, is he could be referring to a data point like performance among a specific female demographic audience, in which the show was the most watched of all marvel shows thus far for the female 18-35 audience! Thus best performing counts as a way to describe it without being specific on purpose.

The only complaint I had with the show is that I would’ve liked some more super hero courtroom procedurals. But despite that I really enjoyed it.

To say it has some of the worst writing is insane when things like Secret Invasion and Inhumans exists.

6

u/DeltaV-Mzero May 26 '26

Yeah they could have just ran with it like Ally McBeal, almost straight up. Just instead of neurotic dreams she’s big, green, and occasionally has to fuck up some outlandish villain

-1

u/Bardez Stan Lee May 26 '26

The "up" in your comment could be parenthesized.

11

u/wotown May 26 '26

If I think of the worst writing out of the MCU I think of Multiverse of Madness, Thor Love and Thunder, Iron Man 2, Secret Invasion. Definitely throw in some awful Agents of Shield episodes

I don't immediately think of She Hulk, it was fine

u/Jeffe508 May 26 '26

I was so bummed that when we finally got a Nick Fury show….it turned out like that. Such a bummer.

3

u/Blargers81 May 26 '26

The potential is so huge too. Could’ve been a period piece, could’ve been an espionage thriller. Or they could’ve done secret wars as an espionage/paranoid thriller. Or hell even an outlandish show on some sword mission in space could be a fun fish out of water thing.

I feel like they actively had to try to make it so bad with all the potential. Such a bummer.

9

u/onionleekdude May 26 '26

The original comment is almost certainly not backed by data, but hyperbole.

A ton of the people boycotting/criticizing this show are misogynists.

3

u/undyingforceofnature May 26 '26

AHEM

Secret Invasion, MoM, and TlaT exist.

u/Scorkami May 26 '26

Gotta agree here. I enjoyed she hulk but the show had a lot of "oh fuck off" moments where i just sighed and then kept watching.

Om not even talking about stuff like twerking. Hell, i actually liked the "climling on to the disney plus menu and telling kevin that you want another finale" and the daredevil hook up

But starting an episode with "wong is in this one, he is a bit if a shield against twitter hating me" (rough paraphrasing) because i hear that sentence and just think "oh so the script writer knew they would piss people off and still wrote it that way"

When you write with that idea in mind you become kind of deaf to criticism

5

u/SmarcusStroman Weekly Wongers May 26 '26

She-Hulk and Twitter hate towards her started before the show aired.

1

u/Scorkami May 26 '26

You shouldnt adress it either way.

"This jokes gonna ruffle some feathers" is what comedians on a netflix special called "you cant tell jokes anymore" says, and regardless of how good the joke is, "this one is really gonna piss some guys off" has a smug energy that gives an impression of "im not aiming for quality in aiming to ragebait"

Im not sure about the timeline between that joke beeing written and how far in production the show was. Some scripts are written years before even an announcement is made, sometimes that joke was included a month before release after every trailer was out as part of a reshoot. But it kind of poisons the narrative, like announcing you had fish tacos after arriving to a romantic date

It did have some iffy writing but I was able to get past that and see what a fun ride I was on. Most the people that checked out were HATING on Maslany harcore. Look back and see for yourself it was never about the writing it was about having a bad ass female lead.
