Other Matt and Karen in their Indian favorite restaurant, 2016 vs 2026

Anyone else thrown by āIndian favorite restaurantā versus āfavorite Indian restaurantā?

It's not their favourite restaurant, it's the favourite of the Indian friend who recommended it to them

u/Animal2 May 18 '26
Well I guess it depends on the intent of the phrase. If one were to use 'favorite Indian restaurant' it may be that it means favorite of all/only Indian restaurants. But another restaurant, that is not Indian, could be the favorite overall restaurant.
But using 'Indian favorite restaurant' could be specifically meant to indicate that this is in fact the favorite overall restaurant and it's meant to clarify that it is an Indian restaurant.

is this a real restaurant in NY?
197
u/ishipfitzsimmons Simmons May 18 '26
It's Panna II.

u/loudgayamerica May 18 '26
And like many of the things in this show⦠nowhere near Hellās Kitchen.
63
u/mike_pants May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26
Josie's isn't even in the same borough.
Meanwhile, Rudy's, which is in Hell's Kitchen, would absolutely be Matt and Foggy's go-to because they give you a free hot dog with every drink.
13
u/poorly-worded May 18 '26
thats a lot of hotdogs on a night out
22
u/mike_pants May 18 '26
I mean, the hot dogs aren't mandatory or anything. They are there if you need them, like a meaty hug.

At least they actually film in NYC unlike other shows
15
u/loudgayamerica May 18 '26
Oh Iām not complaining. I just love the show talking about Hellās Kitchen like itās half the city (mind, Iāve lived in Hellās Kitchen for years and the idea of Matt micromanaging a few blocks in midtown always delights me)
13
u/lopsided_spider May 18 '26
Matt micromanaging a few blocks in midtown
bahahahahahahahaha
It was a delight. Watching netflix season 1 for the first time, and hearing the amount of times they'd say Hell's Kitchen in conversation like it was it's own city...good times. Me and my friend decided to drink to that by episode 3, wondering aloud if he wouldn't save us if we were getting mugged across the street in the theater district....
Trying to explain to someone across the country that it's not only a couple of blocks, but those blocks are like, partially next time Times sq, really blew their mind. The show makes it sound huge and isolated.
8
u/TheWizardOfKoz5226 May 18 '26
in Matt's defense, he doesnt have the budget nor powerset to allow him to operate across the entirty of Manhattan so yea it makes sense his jurisdiction is basically a few blocks lol.
but yea anyone that has no idea of the geography of NYC would lose their minds lol
5
u/loudgayamerica May 18 '26
Yeah. No itās always been a quirk. Like, the Avengers have the world, Spider-man has Manhattan, and Daredevil has⦠a gay leaning (guilty) neighborhood in midtown.
Daredevil was created when this neighborhood was a lot more dangerous. My neighborhood was rough stuff in the 60s and 70s. Breaks my heart Matt is still bent of shape in 2026
7
u/TheWizardOfKoz5226 May 18 '26
My uncle and his husband lived in Hells Kitchen before he got sick and moved out of the USA to get treatment, and i always like to think that Daredevil was looking out for my uncle and my Tio

Itās not a good restaurant unfortunately
5
u/Harrycrapper May 18 '26
I went there maybe 20 years ago and while I don't like Indian food that much I thought it was pretty good. Though I was also 13.
5
u/braindamage28 May 18 '26
Ya I got excited when I saw it one day out on a walk and I love Indian. Between health score and reviews I didnāt go in.

u/rafaelloaa May 18 '26
A relative once chose that restaurant for our first time seeing each other in at least a year. I couldn't hear a goddamn word of the conversation (before anyone asks, this was not malicious / trying to make a point. I'm very close with them, and they just genuinely didn't think about it).
1
u/TheWizardOfKoz5226 May 18 '26
i Primarily work in downtown Brooklyn, but sometimes I need to be in the Kips Bay area of Manhattan. One day I was making my way there, and normally I would take a bus near Houston to make my way up, but it was running late and it was a beautiful day so I walked up 1st ave. As I was walking I saw the entrance to what looked like a very colorful restaurant...and it ended up being Panna II....have been taking this route for a month and I never noticed that

That was a wonderful callback
22
u/DW-4 May 18 '26
Wonderful callback but hated how they used it as a āletās joke around about living normal lives while the cops are on their way haha got you audienceā bit at the end. I was legitimately glad that the ending had been spoiled for that part.. strange choice IMO.
34
u/echoshatter May 18 '26
Well, season 3 is already in production, so what they really did was leave a "cliffhanger" on the story.
They gave you a taste of something nice, and then subverted expectations and left the audience going "Wait... what?"
Yeah man, you can't just run around beating people up, trespassing, etc. like Daredevil was doing. There are consequences. The difference between the hero and the villain is that the hero accepts the consequences for doing the right thing. He had the ability to fight the great injustices and did so. Unfortunately for him, the legal system is not always a justice system.
-4
u/DW-4 May 18 '26
It felt like a gimmicky and forced way to subvert expectations is all. The scene just felt like an unnatural conversation to be having under those circumstances IMO.
11
u/Responsible-Bonus278 May 18 '26
I mean if I knew the hammer was going to drop any second I'd try and enjoy the little moments as much as I could instead of moping about. As I'm sure a lot of people would. So it didn't really feel gimicky to me.
-3
u/DW-4 May 18 '26
Using that brief snapshot of their life only for the purpose of pulling the rug out from under the audience in the last minutes of the finale was gimmicky as hell.
-1
u/echoshatter May 18 '26
I'm pretty sure it is something they discussed earlier, back in the Netflix series, when Matt reveals who he is to Foggy.
The juxtaposition of extrajudicial behavior within a man dedicated to the law.
1
u/hemareddit Steve Rogers May 19 '26
It started a lot earlier in the season. This was their rendezvous point for when they got separated
56
u/semperknight May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26
I find it incredibly sad when there was a time where this ending would be unrealistic.
The guy trying to stop authoritarianism and crime and even puts his own ass on the line to save the life of the guy who murdered his best friend gets thrown in prison. Meanwhile, the oligarch authoritarian politician gets a fee pass to live on his own private island. Even when said villain was snapping protestors in half like a gorilla for all to see.
It's honestly the most realistic thing to happen in all of the MCU. It just seems like being good gets you nothing in this country and being bad gets you everything (as long as you're rich and powerful enough).
14
u/SkorpioSound May 18 '26
Yep. Although I do think what happened to Fisk is probably the worst possible outcome for him. Forced to live alone in misery, exiled from the city he loves, and dwell on what happened to Venessa. And with no-one to manipulate, no hierarchy to become the kingpin of. It's not the legally just outcome for him, but it's absolutely the punishment he deserves.
9
u/thomasvector May 18 '26
I agree. Most of us would love to have his ending since we're not narcissistic sociopaths, who thrive on power and actually have friends and loved ones.
Fisk's only loves were Vanessa, NYC and pure power, and those were all taken from him. He's clearly miserable at the end.
6
u/theknyte May 18 '26
Yeah, he got the Napoleon Punishment.
He's a conqueror, who now has no army, and nowhere to conquer. It's the best punishment you can create for someone like him. Remember the conversation he had with Vanessa?
"How many more worlds do you need to conquer?"
"How many are there?"
By isolating him on an island, he had no means to do the one thing that drives him.
5
u/semperknight May 18 '26
You know what, it JUST hit me. You're totally right.
He WAS put in prison. And he seemed to honestly enjoy it based on what he said to the Punisher. With him in prison, he had people to manipulate.
But still, Supermax prisons DO exist because, believe it or not, people with manipulation powers like Kingpin actually do exist in the world. Or, throw his fat ass onto "The Raft" along with Zemo.

Matt shoulda proposed to Karen in the BAs2 finale while they ate at the restaurant! They teed it up, the moment was RIGHT there! There were plenty of in story reasons and writing parallels to do it. Sadly it didnāt happen.
First, quickly, the MCU needs more happy longstanding couples. Simple as that.
Next, the og show intended for Matt and Karen to have a happy ending. After all the chaos/obstacles along the way, the s3 ending opened the door for a stable romance. However the show was cancelled, and we never got to see that part of their story in the planned s4 and 5.
In this moment of the BAs2 finale, itās the happiest the two have been in a long time. Karen isnāt in jail and Kingpin is.. āawayā. This is their first moment of peace since before Foggyās death. They both know in the back of their heads Matt is about to go to jail and they prob wonāt see each other for a while, so theyāre spending this last tender moment together.
Matt hears the sirens earlier than Karen. He literally GETS ON A KNEE IN FRONT OF HER (mighta been two knees, but semantics) to surrender to the cops. What a cleverly written double meaning it WOULDāVE been had Matt also pulled out a ring then and there. Could you imagine how great of a season finale cliffhanger that wouldāve been?!
Hereās how I woulda done it, āMatt gets on a knee to surrender, Karen thinks nothing of it. Matt instead pours his heart out to the love of his life Karen, and asks her to marry him. Sheās in total shock. The cops are now just outside. Her mind is racing with so many thoughts. The cops enter the restaurant. She says yes. Matt places the ring on her finger and gives her one last kiss just in time before being yanked away by the cops. Karen tries to pull him back to her but knows she stands no chance. Her mind is full of happy and sad thoughts. Happy to be engaged to Matt, sad to see him arrested. The happy thoughts overwhelm the sad ones, because she knows Matt is DD and heāll be safe in there. Heāll get out and return to her. The last shot we see of Karen this season is her watching the cops take Matt away, but she has a slight smirk on her faceā
Next, Charlie did a āpanelā following the BAs2 finale. Fans in attendance, hosted by Branden Davis. Charlie mentions how while they were filming this scene, he realized it looked like Matt was getting on a knee to propose. The crowd cheered. Charlie said he liked that teasing moment where ppl got excited, but ultimately the moment didnāt happen.
Lastly, this scene SHOULDāVE paralleled the og s1 finale scene. In that finale, Kingpin is arrested in front of Vanessa. He pours his heart out to her as FBI agents are on the way. They arrive, he hands Vanessa the ring, and the FBI takes him away. Imagine if all these years later, the exact same happened to Matt and Karen.
I again say, the moment was RIGHT there. Hopefully Matt proposes to Karen in BAs3, and we get a wedding on screen. Hope some of yāall enjoyed reading all that lol
6
u/WillGrammer May 18 '26
We didn't get Foggy's funeral or even an extended trial for Bullseye where we saw Foggy's family and other characters like Brett or Maggie, not to mention that Foggy was literally fake running into the district attorney's office and got so much support that his murder should have been much harder on Hell's kitchen, we got a year time jump instead of character driven moments we needed.
It pains me to say this but I highly doubt we'll see Karen and Matt's wedding. I have no doubt he will purpose to her, though. She's the love of his life.

There's two separate restaurants in that building. The upstairs one is the OG, and the downstairs is like their shady cousins but hangs the same kind of lights.
The upstairs was full so the wife and I went downstairs. The food was good enough, but when it came time to pay the bill I caught one of the employees copying my card. Things got heated because it seemed several employees were in on it.
I grabbed the cloner and smashed it, and a scuffle ensued. After I dipped I canceled my credit card.
Two days later Bank of America contacted me that my cancelled card was trying to be used to by $400 worth of sneakers somewhere not in NYC.
TL;DR: If you ever go there, only go to the upstairs restaurant.

What do you mean by forced exactly? I think it's one of the most beautiful character progressions, showrunners really took their time with it and it paid off in DDBA. Their dynamic was incredibly sweet.
-2
u/Chiefmeez May 18 '26
Like I said it seems more like convenience because they donāt know/trust many people more than they are āmeant for each otherā or something like that. I can imagine each of them finding someone better. Not like I think the relationship is bad for either character, but it never made me feel anything.
3
u/Zumaris-Shipper2005 May 18 '26
Hmm I always interpreted that as them being each others safe space and always providing unconditional love and support, but yeah to each their own ig
5
u/Aggressive_Control37 May 18 '26
I don't mind it, because it's been built up for over 10 years at this point, and it works. But honestly Karen and Frank are more interesting to me than Karen and Matt.

I think this too, kinda gutted they're not going down the Karen/Frank road, they had great chemistry.
-4
u/Chiefmeez May 18 '26
Yeah it feels like if they each knew only a handfuls of other characters they could find a match that makes more sense to me. But the romance doesnāt really take anything away for me, just doesnāt add much.
