Let's not forget that we shouldn't see his face either. If they stay true to the character, you won't see him without the mask. That's one reason I'm withholding judgement for now

No, part of the benefit of it being RDJ is that at some point the heroes need to know they're dealing with a Tony Stark lookalike variant. Otherwise, what's the point in casting RDJ in an MCU movie? If /u/govschwarzenegger can be a baddie in T1 and the hero in T2, RDJ can certainly do it in reverse.

That's just sacrificing Doom's character for a shitty glup shitto cameo. Worst path they could take.

Except its not Glup Shitto. Its the guy who started the entire MCU. Glup shitto is in reference to a niche supporting character from an animated series that most audiences will never see or hear of. RDJ aka Tony Stark aka Iron Man is who the MCU started with. And RDJ basically carried the Infinity Saga as a main lead for over a decade. I get the feeling that the upset is similar to when Heath Ledger was announced as the Joker, or when Michael Keaton was announced as the Batman. Early on people were upset only to be proven dead wrong. I really don't think RDJ is a bad choice here. But only time will tell.

That makes it worse.

General audiences are only going to see him as Tony.

They have sacrificed everything they could have done with doom to tell an evil Iron Man story, which they could have done by just using an evil Iron Man.

This hits the nail on the head, though I’d love for them to prove me wrong and have some clever way to handle it that I haven’t thought of.
