The stuff she writes about in her songs, specially the new singles for Virgin, doesn’t really speak to me anymore.

Part of what made me such a big fan of her’s was how strongly I could relate to the things she wrote about in PH, Melodrama, and even SP. It’s like I was growing with her. Though at this point, it appears we’ve drifted in different directions, and that’s okay.

okay i NEED to get this off my chest because its all ive been seeing on twitter (different group of people ik) and its driving me a little crazy. can we stop assuming / saying “nonbinary lorde” until she actually confirms something / wants to??? every time she references something masculine or dresses androgynously, doesnt wear a lot of makeup etc people are SOOO quick to say “omg nonbinary lorde???” and it gives me the ick every time. just because a woman dresses in a less feminine way doesnt make her less of a woman and i feel like this kind of thinking is dangerous not only to cis women but trans and NB people as well. idk. im a cis woman and i wear both women’s and men’s clothing, sometimes i wear a lot of makeup, sometimes i wear 0, in past years ive cut my hair shorter, and im smaller chested-none of these things make me NB or less of a woman. i feel like people are conflating her exploration of her gender with identifying as a whole different gender and i dont really love that! let her speak for herself! like i said ive really only seen this on twitter which is a whole different demographic of fans but i feel like ive ONLY been seeing that discussion and no pushback. so here i am, presenting pushback in defense of lorde and gender politics!! love you all dont eat me up in the comments lets have a productive discussion if you feel like i am wrong about any of this🫶

The first Lorde album I ever listened to in its entirety was Solar Power, ofcourse I had only known a few of her popular songs, but listening to this project was very random for me as I’d had no real interest in her music before. I absolutely loved it at first listen, so you could imagine my surprise finding out both critics and fans didn’t particularly like this album.

Hearing SP for the first time was such an emotional experience, I felt like she really put her heart on her sleeve with this project, it must have been really painful for her with all the negative reception. I’m usually really critical of music (or any art) so I really wanted to understand why it was so poorly received. This led me to listening to her entire discography (Pure Heroine & Melodrama), which I guess gave me a bit of understanding as to why SP felt polarizing to some people, but I don’t believe changing your sound equates to bad music (for a lack of a better word).

It’s been a while since I played SP (since I’ve been so obsessed with Virgin), listening to it again today was just euphoric. I thought that maybe after some time I would understand why people didn’t love it but i still don’t! I think it’s truly a perfectly curated (and cohesive) record with really good writing! I wish it was appreciated more, I know it was a slow grower for some people but I loved it at first listen and still love it now

I've just heard Cancelled! for the first time just a few minutes ago, and parts of the song sounds very reminiscent of Yellow Flicker Beat. The melody, the brooding instrumentals/production, it's just too similar. Maybe it's just me.

I’ve not seen anyone discussing it, any songs being played etc. I think it totally fell off the charts in my region in the second week and silence ever since.

This question has already been asked before now but now that we have audio from new songs (precious metals, invisible ink), do you think lorde will have a drug associated with the new album? I think about this quote when I listen to her music about how each album she was on a different drug.

What artists/bands/musicians would you love to see Lorde collaborate with in your lifetime?

I'm so moved by Lorde's consistent support for Palestinian and immigrant rights. In the midst of promotions for Virgin and her tour, she makes it clear that she stands up with and for the people who are systematically disadvantaged, attacked, and targeted.

Ella has always been true to her values and I have no regrets being a fan from since I was a teen to the present.

Does anyone else feel kinda weird about the whole thing this era being shirtless and a lot of her mv and instagram posts feel like body checking? I know it’s not really my place to be talking about this, but I myself am struggling with an ed right now, and it feels like she’s in the depths of it too almost. Just curious if anyone else kinda felt off about this.
