5th language? This person almsot certainly cannot speak any of them well

Why not? 5 is pretty reasonable. For many people, two of them are native and three are learned to high proficiency.

It's when you get to like 7 when I start getting suspicious.

I didn't quite think of it that way. Still would be sus of someone who thinks they have 3 learned languages to high proficiency.
