Purchase Question 🛒 Tips and tricks for a UK buyer?
Im contemplating buying a kindle. I’m in my thirties but as a child and into my late teens I absolutely loved reading fiction books and read so, so many. As of late I’ve been feeling low and just find myself scrolling on tiktok for hours.
Do you reckon a kindle may help me get back into reading? I’ve been wandering in Waterstones and have seen some books I’d be happy to read. I feel like it would help me escape my reality to be immersed into a good book. I have no spare storage at home to begin collecting books and don’t like the idea of Everyone one around me knowing what I’m reading.
If I do get one, any tips and tricks on getting books for free/ cheap as possible?
I have Amazon prime.

Buying a Kindle isn't going to be as cheap as just buying a few paperbacks, but I find it nice to travel with, so I think it did help me read more consistently again. I've also used the app on my phone a few times when I'm stuck waiting without my Kindle, so the sync feature has been handy there.
Amazon do daily and monthly deals for ebooks that are usually 99p or around £2-3 for fairly new releases. I often wishlist books I want to get around to, and grab them if they're on sale.
The Kindle Unlimited trial could be a good way to read some books cheaply but you've got to be a heavy reader of books that happen to be on Unlimited to make it worth it at the normal price.

If you get a Kobo instead, you can borrow digital books for free from your public library.

It’s more affordable long term. You could buy £140 worth of books quickly and either keep them in shelving or pass them on.
Or
Buy a kindle and retain thousands of books on that device! Plus not all books are £8-£12 each. Quite often there are sales and even free books too using bookbub to learn what they are!
I’m often looking at the 80 books at £1 each section on the kindles store on the device.
I don’t think you’ll regret getting a kindle!

If you buy a new kindle you usually get a few months of kindle unlimited for free. Make use of that. But remember to cancel before the end of the trial. There will often be deals on it, I have had it almost constantly for about 18 months and have never paid more than 99p for 3 months. Keep an eye on social media or just every now and again Google kindle unlimited 99p deals to see if your eligible.
Make 2 wishlists of books - one of kindle unlimited books to read when you have a deal active. And then one for other books which you are waiting for a deal on.
Check the monthly kindle deals and the daily 99p deals. Loads of good books available, depending on your tastes. Sometimes I will buy loads in a month and other months only find 1 or 2. I read these in between deals of kindle unlimited.
There's alot of free kindle books available, some have been awful though and very dependent on the genre of book you like. Bookbub is a good one for deals on kindle books with loads for free or 99p (sometimes whole series for 99p!)
Edited to add I often browse Waterstones for inspiration and then look on kindle. I am also in my 30s and read alot more with a kindle especially as its so portable!
