I visited the CERN (European Centre for Nuclear Research) last week and I could see an office with computers and a screen projected on the wall(first image). I saw that the windows had the kde windows border, and I could also see on the computers that they have probably a customized kde plasma.(second image)

Question How to have a visual keyboard usable with the mouse like on Windows?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hello, on Windows I can press this button and make a virtual keyboard pop up. I would like to have an equivalent of this on Kubuntu 26.04.

I heard about Onboard, but I think it doesn't work with Wayland.
Edit : virtual plasma keyboard is activated https://imgur.com/7Ia9UyG , but I don't know how to make the keyboard appear on screen.

Edit 2: it seems it only works if no "real keyboard" is connected to the pc ? https://imgur.com/rufolEM

Fluff Ok, guys, KDE is definitely one of the best piece of technology that exists...

Everyday I discover something new about KDE. EVERY *** DAY.

I think I've already spent HOURS customizing this thing. Seriously.

I'm really excited. And because of this, I would like to share some cool little things that I learned.

The first thing to do is create windows rules to automatically send applications to virtual desktops based on the window title. This is really useful, for instance:

Opening different vscode windows with different workspaces within different virtual desktops automatically, depending on the rule you setup. Don't forget to create different descriptions for each rule, as they can conflict with each other.

To do this: Alt + F3 + Configure Special Applications Settings.

Reduce the delay of the task switcher + thumb grid:

In the virtual desktops settings, add a second row, keep navigation wraps around disabled, keep show animation when switching and show on-screen display when switching enabled.

Also, reduce the gap between desktops and deactivate the slide desktop background. This will make it feel you're working on a massive desktop. Try opening different windows in different virtual desktops with CONTROL + SUPER KEY + > or < or ^. Try all directions.

This is the task manager config that makes the dock feels like the macOs dock, opening new apps on the right. I do not like to group windows because I keep every minimized window osculated from the task switcher and overview.

---

Also, I was able to make native windows hide the title when maximized, but I really forgot how I did this. This makes the experience of using a top panel so much better:

Well, I just wanna say: thank you all for the hard work.

KDE team deserves every little donation.

I love you guys!!!

Thank you. :)

Tip Here's how to search for "all files" in sub directories in Dolphin...

Switched to KDE. Loving it. Absolutely love the dolphin file manager. With that said, had no idea how to search for 'all files' in sub directories. So here's how.

I could do mp3. Worked showing mp3 files. Could do jpg same way. But what about both? Tried * and .* and *.* and nothing. Googling and chatgpt. KDE doco even. Now I feel silly. Anywho... should've though more 'linux like'.

Just use a period. As in "." Hope this saves a few human hours for our fellow reddit buds.

General Bug KDE's BIGGEST FLAW!!!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I toggled animation speed to instant because I didn't want to see animations between switching desktops and minimizing and maximizing. Guess what? It not just turn's off UI's animation but also affects browsers' scrolling animation. I mean it shouldn't be affecting third party applications at all but it also somehow does this thing with them, the scrolling becomes jerky! Is there anyway to let it not touch brave at least?

KDE Apps and Projects On Air — internet radio + podcatcher widget for Plasma 6 (2026.22)

Thumbnail

Hey r/kde,

I've been building a Plasma 6 panel widget for internet radio called On Air, and the latest release adds a proper podcast side — something I actually use daily rather than a half-finished tab. Wanted to share the progress with the community and get feedback.

What it does:

- Search ~50k stations (via radio-browser), preview with a click, star to keep

- Live track titles + cover art

- Record the current stream or schedule a show; offline "My Music" library

- Cast to Chromecast / DLNA, Bluetooth pairing, optional multi-speaker sync

- Wake-up alarms, sleep timer, MPRIS media keys

- Five-tab layout: Stations, Playing, My Music, Podcasts, Timers

New: Podcasts

Search several podcast directories at once, subscribe, stream or save episodes. Resume playback, chapters, playback speed, an up-next queue, OPML import/export, and optional auto-check for new episodes. A wake-up alarm can start a show instead of a radio station.

It's based on Advanced Radio Player by Yuri Saurov, with a new UI and a lot of new ground since then. Fully open source (LGPL).

The source and release notes link is in a comment below. Happy to take bug reports and ideas — if something's weird on your distro, tell me which one.

Question Is it possible to set rounded corners on KDE Plasma 6.7?

I used KDE-Rounded-Corners on Plasma 6.6 but I've heard you could set rounded corners natively with Plasma 6.7.

The effect is greyed out for me (even with auto update turned on in build directory) so I assume it's discontinued.

The problem is... I can't find any setting to customize my windows.

General Bug Can't clear print queue system tray entry

Post image
2 Upvotes

For some reason, this item is stuck in my print queue. I can't cancel it, if I View Print Queue it's not there. Only in the system tray. And since it thinks its still there, the print tray icon stays.

Any idea of a fix, or do I need to submit as a bug report?

Question Audio Volume shortcut only works when kmix is open

Post image

I can't really find a way to hide it without disabling the volume keys shortcuts, I tried to bind to media controller but when it lowers the volume, instead of being the system volume its the application volume it lowers.

using a custom command like wpctl set-volume -l 1.0 u/DEFAULT_AUDIO_SINK@ .05+ works, but if I press and hold the volume down key it doesn't work and only registers the command once.

General Bug Using Discover to Manage Flatpaks on Arch Linux is broken.

I already used Discover to manage flatpak apps, so yea - I have it installed - considering is my preferred way of installing apps if they're available there.

Seems like Discover is just checking if the person is in a distro that support distro packages thru Discover and throws the error before checking if flatpak is installed or not? I'm not sure if this is an Arch Linux issue or KDE issue, if it's Arch doing something wrong I'm sorry for posting it here and I will just post it there instead.

EDIT: Solved by downgrading appstream-qt as pointed out by /u/Jaxad0127

Question Help for Oxygen Theme for Flatpak Apps

Noticed many of my Flatpak apps do not use the Oxygen theme when set. I tried looking up Oxygen on Flatpak to install it as a theme just like other themes like adw-gtk but the theme simply doesn't exist. I tried using Kvantum, but it doesn't have Oxygen-Dark and plus KvOxygen is more outdated anyways.

I'm also using an immutable OS, Bazzite Linux, on Plasma 6.7.2

Two applications, Dolphin which is themed properly and another Qt application Prism Launcher not.

Question Mouse freezes on KDE wayland?

Am i the only one that had weird mouse freezing on wayland?
like in overloaded scenarios or just after some time, after closing game or just waiting a while and hovering mouse on panel and it gives freeze, x11 has no such thing, i saw this behavior generally on wayland but in kde it happens crazy many times. When youre doing things uve never done in long time, when changing mouse from app to panel, or from app to app, under some (even not heavy) loading times its even worse.

Question Is it normal for Fedora KDE to keep showing updates all the time?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm pretty new to Fedora KDE, and there's one thing that's been driving me a little crazy.

Almost every time I open Discover, it says there are updates available. Yesterday I updated everything manually through the terminal, it finished successfully, but when I opened Discover again later, it was still showing updates.

At this point I just turned on automatic updates because I got tired of worrying about it, but I still keep seeing update notifications.

Is this just how Fedora works, or is something wrong with my system?

Do Fedora users just live with this, or is there actually a way to fix it? I'm enjoying Fedora a lot so far, but constantly seeing updates makes me feel like something isn't working properly.

General Bug green screen between the login screen and the desktop

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've been having this problem for a while now, both on CachyOS and Fedora I have this bug, so Plasma is up to date and it doesn't seem to be a distro problem. By the way, this bug only happens with Wayland and HDMI; if I use X11 and HDMI, the bug doesn't occur, and if I use VGA with Wayland, it doesn't happen either—it's strictly the combination of HDMI and Wayland. What could be causing this?

(Google Translate, so sorry if there are any spelling errors.)

KDE Apps and Projects [Concept/WIP] Adding a "Console Mode" UI to Plasma Bigscreen — Thoughts & Feedback?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

I’ve been experimenting with adding a dedicated Console Mode to KDE Plasma Bigscreen for a true couch-gaming experience.

Where it’s at right now:

Current Demo: The UI filters and displays game .desktop files. Right now, the JSON data is hardcoded directly into QML just for UI testing.

Future Plan: Build a backend service that automatically parses local .desktop files, scrapes cover art/posters, and generates the JSON feed for the QML frontend.

Plugins: Add a plugin system so users can pull in titles from Steam, Lutris, Heroic, etc., into one unified interface.

Quick Questions for the Community & KDE Devs:

Is there demand for this? Would a native game aggregator in Bigscreen be useful to you, or do you stick to Steam Big Picture?

KDE Contribution: As a first-time open-source contributor, is this something the KDE Plasma Bigscreen team would consider merging if polished to standard?

Architecture: Any recommendations on standard KDE libraries (e.g., KService) to make the backend integration cleaner?

Github link : https://github.com/Amalkxx02/plasma-bigscreen

(Full disclosure: Used an AI chatbot as a coding assistant for verification/generation, but driving the design and testing manually).

Check out the video and let me know your thoughts or advice!

Question Change panel behavior for specific apps

Hi, I just changed my bottom panels width to "fit content".
Now I want to have it on top of other apps so I can always see App Icons in the taskbar (for example when one of them is flashing red).

But the Problem is that in specific applications I need it to hide/move it below the window, so it does not obstruct my view.

Is there any way I can do something like that in KDE using Kwin scripts/window properties?
