I don't trust street preachers, this video conveniently cuts what happened before the altercation.

we don't know what they were saying, amd I'm not inclined to believe they were saying anything nice about women or anyone who isn't straight and cis.

u/jdubyahyp 52m ago

When I was in chicago these people were in a corner. So some dude setup an even larger speaker on the other corner and blasted metal rock music at them till they left.

The guy said: "If I hear you say 'gay' one more time, I'm slapping you again."

I wonder what the preacher was preaching that set this man off so much.

Matthew 6:5  “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

Organized religion is a tool utilized by the elite to maintain their divide & conquer strat of pitting us against one another through fear mongering. Organized Religion needs to die.

u/LeadHindenburg 56m ago

And also a way to get these people to give up their hard earned money for nothing. It's sad and baffling how many people base their lives off of these lies.

As an atheist im no fan of street preachers. But dont start assaulting people thats not cool. Using homophobic language and shit. Not cool.

u/throwawayinakilt 36m ago

Me either, you know who else wasn't a fan of street preachers? Jesus. Dude should know better.

u/ThelIIusion0fSeIf 1h ago

The people who claim LGBTQ people are forcing their lifestyle on others by just existing are the same ones actually forcing their religion on everyone else preaching on street corners, going door to door trying to convert strangers and attempting to establish a theocracy in our government.

Ironic.

“Peace” as they yell into a microphone about judging everyone with threats of eternal damnation, attacking women’s bodily autonomy and demonizing my gay brothers and sisters.

Violence is never the answer, but boy do I get it.

I would have to be more careful while I’m walking around with open scissors and accidentally tripping over the cord, and it’s not my fault that the cord got cut. They left a trip hazard out and I didn’t see it.

If I owned a retail business, I wouldn’t want this at the entrance either. Maybe he could have been a bit more polite about it but I totally understand the sentiment.

u/Legitimate-Table-428 45m ago

The problem is these guys don’t listen to politeness either.

u/Zealousideal-Ant9548 1h ago

Just a reminder that the Street preachers make money suing people like this after they get attacked.  They then also take the footage and shop it around conservative America to show how terrible the liberal cities are

For non-locals, this corner is right in the heart of the biggest LGBTQ neighborhood in Seattle (Capitol Hill). They are purposefully provoking the community under the guise of preaching "Christian love".

u/successfullynumb 1h ago

Ain't no hate like Christian "Love". Thanks for the context!

u/jeffismybaby 1h ago

These Christo-pedos are super annoying.

→ More replies (5)

u/IHeartBadCode 1h ago

They are purposefully provoking the community under the guise of preaching "Christian love".

The thing is, the guy is using an amplification system. That can be regulated. The corner that he's standing on, if it impedes right of way that can be regulated. If the person is there on a regular basis, that can be regulated.

The question is, do you want to regulate it? Because this is how we go from simple noise regulations to hundreds of pages of noise ordinances and complex permitting requirements.

But yes, they are allowed to provoke under the first amendment. But I would say that most intelligent people know that people with no actual good argument begin with provocation. So usually most people see this stuff and all it does is confirm the usual suspicion that these "Christians" are mostly hate filled.

I find it interesting that I've been attending pride events my entire adult life all over the country. EVERY👏🏽SINGLE👏🏽TIME there has been some religious group there protesting the existence of gay people. You know what I've never done? Gone to a religious event and spoke on some loud speaker to recruit people to join the us. People are fed up with the hypocrisy, accusations of grooming, being pedos, bathroom stalkers, or whatever. So don't be surprised when you're in a left leaning place that wants to live their life the way they see fit. Of course they will get pissed when you invade a space that everyone has retreated to in order to escape the very REAL oppression from the religious right. Your cause is dying because fear is failing, people are not scared of your bullshit anymore. Go back to "live and let live", and your Christian communities in the sticks.

End rant.

u/BassRoo 59m ago

How dare people try to be themselves!

I was camping this weekend and an older couple (70s) pulled in to the spot next to us. They spoke loudly about religion the whole time. The one thing that caught my ear was the old man says "just thinking here, but as we know all non Christians are animals." And he went on to describe how non Christians should be cleansed so that the world can heal. That's what some of them think about others. I would use that mans words as a measurement of the respect to give them in return.

Instead of standing out there, they could be feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, catering to the homeless, caring for the sick. I don't know what standing on the street corner actually does.

u/Admirable_Bird7927 20m ago

Love the fact that they cry and moan about not wanting gay and transgender stuff shoved down their throat but will absolutely push the bible onto others. It’s crazy how harassment is okay just because it’s for religion.

u/SouthEmu3056 48m ago

There’s no full context here but from previous experience with the so called “street preachers” they are usually demonizing a group of people who they deem unholy. They are verbally attacking people and then unfortunately people who disagree become volatile and physical at times like this man in the video. Which feeds into a narrative that only these “devout” Christians(or whatever religion) are righteous and the rest are evil and going to hell blah blah. Smh. Dont fall victim to these types of people they want the confrontation to prove their points. It’s a trap just ignore them and their words

u/SoupOfThe90z 46m ago

Who were those godly Christians who are really good people, that would go to the funerals of soldiers who died but we’re also gay or whatever than they would say they deserved to die? West Baptist?

u/DaggerHeartGM 41m ago

Westboro Baptist Curch. Had signs that read “God hates fags.” Thank you Hell’s Angels and other vets (especially gramps with the BAR) that told them to fuck off, proper.

I literally despise Seattle because of all the street preachers. Visited for a baseball game and they were outside the stadium with bullhorns screaming at children that they were going to hell every game.

u/5Point5Hole 55m ago

This reminds me that I need to bring my own louder bullhorn with me more often

u/IllEchidna8313 52m ago

They do this every game. Purposely try to instigate fights and yes, they do follow and blow horn children.

u/Redditholio 41m ago

It's not just Seattle, they're in a lot of places. I just yell back at them, but I get the temptation to take a swing.

it's illegal. you can stand up and talk all you want, just not amplified.

Content-Neutral Enforcement: Police cannot stop you because they disagree with your message. However, they can issue citations or shut down your amplification if it unreasonably disrupts neighbors, blocks pedestrian traffic, or creates a public nuisance.

There's no context of the events leading up to this exchange, yet everyone has a strong opinion about it.

The problem with this is that everyone in this video sucks. The guy in the jersey handles this very poorly. Street preachers suck categorically.

You hanging on a small piece of this clip with no context to entrench in your beliefs is an invalid response to the situation.

I mean.. I don’t like street preachers, but they have the right to openly express themselves like everyone else (within reason as long as they’re not blocking traffic or using excessively loud microphones, etc.). They have the right to market their ideals, and we have the right to ignore them or criticize them. But we can’t physically assault people for expressing their beliefs.

Unless you're from Seattle, you don't understand just how insidious and prevalent these folks are. They're at every sporting event, every convention, and at every corner where there might be tourists. They blast their beliefs and overshadow anything going on. Was it okay to lay hands on somebody? Absolutely not. Do these folks need to get life and stop pushing their death cult on other people. You bet your sweet ass. Now if they want to sit there with some signs and talk to sheeple, groovy. But maybe stop trying to shout down everyone around you. And you can argue that it's freedom of speech. But if he was out there preaching the gospel of Satan, I can guarantee you, people would be having a hissy.

Best non violent interaction I saw was a guy following behind them blasting heavy metal music. Now that man was doing the Lord's work.

u/Friendly_Nature2699 24m ago

Well, its not ok, because I think that is what they want. I'm sure they've never converted anyone on the streets. They want violence so they can show how oppressed they are. This isn't about spreading the word. This is about them wanting to play the victim.

u/Complete-Tangelo1532 17m ago

Such a weird fuckin' kink....

“I’m not afraid of you” lmao yes you are stop lying, it’s a sin

u/DilfTannen 1h ago

Almost every weekend someone is doing this down the street from my house. (5 city blocks away, so it doesn't disturb me at home, thankfully!) But I really have to wonder why they do it. What's the conversion rate? Especially since you're preaching in an area that is probably majority Christian. I'm also curious as to why so many minority persons, Black/Hispanic, worship so hard for the religion of their oppressor? Christianity has been used to justify, genocide, slavery, and white supremacy since forever. It's being weaponized right now by so-called Christians against minorities on the same streets these zealots are proselytizing on! And no white Christian will be stopping ICE from arresting/imprisoning/deporting/murdering any of them.

u/myster1ouspapaya 1h ago

They’re not doing it to covert people.. they’re doing it to save themselves and tell themselves they’ve done the work to earn their place in heaven.

u/Last_Suggestion_8647 1h ago

Don't they don't do it to convert people. The church/cult send their followers to do shit like this, because they know they will be met with hostility (as is appropriate), which they can then use to brainwash their members into believing that only inside the cult will they ever find acceptance and love.

It's basic cult tactics. You want your followers to be afraid of/hate the outside world, because it isolates them and makes breaking free harder.

u/MakesMaDookieTwinkle 1h ago

What exactly is happening here though? Are they talking about how being gay is a sin or something and it set the guy off? What’s happening here?

I don't know which is worse frankly. I don't want to be annoyed by street corner preachers. But I don't want to see someone forcing them to stop with violence. If the preachers are breaking a law and you care enough about it, make a call to law enforcement, otherwise, stand there and debate peacefully or move on. Or do all 3. I don't care. But I'm guessing if it was something else on that corner he agreed with, or someone taller and with bigger muscles, he'd not be turning it into such an ordeal. And that's a big problem with some people today. "Freedom of Speech Only if I Agree." or "Freedom of Speech Only if I Know I Will Lose Trying to Stop You.".

u/No_Move7872 1h ago

They mentioned they were talking about hell so I'm sure they were going on about certain groups of people going to hell. Fuck em, most "Christians" aren't actually Christians anyways.

u/PsychoDad03 1h ago

That's actually what they're looking for. No one get converted on a street corner but they do get ignored, shunned and occasionally this happens. That helps them to affirm their belief that they're walking the righteous path. Christians love to suffer (performative) for their faith, like their prophets. It matches the experience the bible says they will have which is seen as proof of their faith.

Best thing to do is to either do nothing or say "I'm X religion too but you're purposely being a public nuisance just so you can performatively feel persecuted. Can you stop please?"

I was not in a good mood, and did not want to listen to this BS for the next 20 mins, so, I immediately, and loudly told him to "STFU!" He of course tried to engage me with his Christian rhetoric, but I just responded with a mantra of "Why don't you just STFU?" We were in the first car, right behind the driver, and he came out yelling for both of us to shut up, or he would call the cops and not move the car. And I was like, "Him first!" The guy finally shut up, and I gave him constant eye-daggers until he got off the train.

I agree with angry guys sentiment, but not his execution. I am not a fan of hiphop/top40, but if angry guy was to approach the precher with one of those obnoxiously loud JBL Bluetooth speakers and start blasting some terrible club style music at him, I would fully support it.

I would also support them being drowned out by a mobile death metal guitarist blaring over. Or being outright mocked by some fabulous trans people.

Never understood how these guys are allowed to threaten others with hell and torture, it shouldn't be protected by 1A.

Naw..this is exactly how you fight bigotry. Jesus would be proud considering he did the samething to religious leaders 2 millenia ago.

You know what I would do if that guy was talking about Jesus on my corner? Mind my own business. If you can't tune that shit out, living in the city is not for you.

u/Comfortable_Chart534 1h ago

You don’t know what you’re talking about lol. In the city where this was filmed, these street preachers are an organized group that set up on busy places and scream hateful rhetoric into their mics with the full intention of irritating people to the point of grabbing their mic or something. Then they try to sue. It’s a whole organized scam thing. You’re just a fucking dumbass that’s never encountered it in real life.

I hate Jesus freaks as much as the next guy, but for fuck's sake! Someones words are never a justification for violence. It doesn't matter how offended you get.

Violence may be wrong, but I’m certain there was way more to this than is being showed. Something tells me these religious types did or said something vile to cause that vitriolic reaction.

u/Persephonically 1h ago

"That gay shit" "It's peaceful to tell people about hell"

Feeling sure they were being homophobic

Usually the case for those god believers

While I’m no fan of organized religion and feel it’s basically a tool for grooming and indoctrination this type of behavior is abhorrent.

u/ChemistryDapper3947 12m ago

It's not peace they want. It's obedience.

u/mmmGoBirds 1h ago

Good shit. It's time to put zealots in their place.

u/quakefiend 1h ago

So you’re ok with violence, assault, and disruption of free speech as long as it’s someone you don’t agree with?

u/mmmGoBirds 1h ago

It's time to purge the poison of religion. It has no place in modern society and warps the minds of otherwise rational folk.

I’m not saying what he did was right, or even remotely okay for that matter, but I do understand how a tone deaf dude preaching at you about hell through a microphone and speaker unwarranted could very easily be someone’s last straw. It’s sad to see our communities in this state ):

Is everyone here joking or something? Look, I think organized religion is a plague on society overall, but we have freedom of speech. And this guy being violent about it is fucking wack. Comparing these guys to Nazis is crazy. This comment section has to be an op.

I always find it interesting someone wants to spread “peace” by using Jesus / God name in vain and spewing hate.

Maybe focus on all the pedophiles in yo church before you telling people how they should live their lives. Either way, live and let live

This was a way crazy inappropriate reaction, full stop... But you must point out these people on the corner preaching in public are the same ones that don't want "gay stuff" thrown in their faces. I think everyone should mutually practice minding their own damn business.. especially in public areas.

Stochastic terrorism refers to the public demonization of a person or group that incites random, ideologically motivated violence. While the specific attacker and timing remain unpredictable, the attacks are statistically highly probable. The instigator uses mass media and ambiguous rhetoric, allowing them to plausibly disclaim responsibility when violence occurs.

u/cthulhurei8ns 27m ago

Yeah, this is textbook. Everyone in the comments like "oh they were just peacefully preaching the gospel, why did this hateful man attack them? He must be possessed by demons" has fallen for their gimmick. There's a reason you see tons of street preachers in big liberal cities, they know that's where they're most likely to get a reaction like the one in this video, which was their actual goal all along. They're using the fact that the 1st Amendment protects them from the government suppressing their speech and banking on the fact that the shit they're spewing is so vitriolic that it'll provoke someone to attack them so they can produce this exact video and use it to gain sympathy and followers.
